  1. Damn... That's too bad.

    But X-23? She seems pretty boring, as far as X-Men ladies go. I mean, Storm, Phoenix, Rogue... Hell, even Jubilee would seem different enough. But she's just too samey.

    This game may unfortunately run into the same kind of bizarre licencing snags that Tatsunoko vs Capcom did which kept us from getting the Samurai Pizza Cats. :(

  2. Can we put a stop to using the phrase "'nuff said"? It is rarely ever true and does nothing to clarify one's position/argument.

    I propose the classic, "And that's all I have to say about that." At least it doesn't sound like something a teenager who's trying to act "street" would say.

  3. Nier? Niiiiierrrrrr. Nyaaaaaaah.

    I've heard all sorts of stuff about this game. The best is that the hero in the Japanese version is an effeminate 16-year-old youth, and the hero (and plot) was changed for the western version (sister becomes daughter, and that's about it).

    I might pick it up next time I see it.

    How awesome can this game get?!

    It needs some Marvel chicks now. She-Hulk is apparently all but assured now, but I nominate Storm, Phoenix, and Squirrel Girl too.

    As for the Capcom side, we need Captain Commando. But honestly, with Ammy, Joe, Tron, and Dante, I'm already pretty satisfied.

  5. Grass gets pretty cool on the last form. Hm... Possibly grass/flying or grass/psychic.

    Fire pig is still the coolest of all. But he's yet another fire/fighting type and you can tell. C'mon, Nintendo, we already got Blaziken and Infernape.

    Man, the water type REALLY doesn't get cool until the end. Uh... Water/rock? Water/steel? Either way it's been done, so hopefully it's something different.

  6. Again? It's supposed to be awkward and sound fake and dumb. It was like that in the Japanese version too.

    Yuna's voice in general was pretty awkward in FFX, though. But that was more because her voice actor was trying to match Yuna's lip movements... which didn't always fit so well in Japanese, either.

  7. People are really blowing things out of proportion here.

    As a bounty hunter, isn't Samus beholden to the rules and laws of her employer? It's less about being a strong, independent woman and more about staying within the confines of the rules to ensure she gets freakin' paid.

    Which might mean she's gotta do what a man says once in a while.

    But I admit Theophany's comment made me laugh a little.

  8. Are we seriously arguing the validity of a Metroid game?

    Jesus, people. Look, it's got Metroid right in the title. That basically makes it a Metroid game. Because it's a friggin' label, not an essence. The game could be all about Samus having a slumber party and doing her nails and watching some bad movie on pay-per-view, and if it has Metroid in the title, guess what? IT WOULD STILL BE A METROID GAME.

    Once again, it's a title, not an essence or quality. If it's not exactly like previous titles, that does not mean it is not a "true" Metroid game. It just means it's a different Metroid game.

  9. Mass production of effective equipment does not exist. Everything worth its salt is legendary and difficult to obtain. No one has the idea to replicate legendary weapons or armour that are discovered (except maybe the player, with a dupe trick).

    Anyone can buy a rifle or pistol, but it takes an adventure to find one made of diamond.

  10. The characters are also becoming absolutely, horrendously cartoonish in terms of physiques and design. I'm all for creative outfits but not when it looks like it would take hours to slip into it and it only barely covers the nipples/crotch/ass, if the outfit actually does any of those things at all. VOLDO. IVY. SOPHITIA.

    Also they'd do well to be more creative with game modes. I know a lot of people complained but I personally enjoyed SC3's little pseudo-RTS story mode, and the lack of anything resembling a story or a mode in SC4 kind of took the wind out of my sails in a way that not even Hilda could salvage.

    Well anyway, I got a level 44 map at last. Hopefully it's water or ice, since I'm getting sick of fire, dirt, and ruins.

  12. DQ7 had a mostly rough translation. For example, whenever the "narrator" had any dialogue, a lot of the time it'd be missing the first letter from the first word.

    Also, the only one to really use strong language is Aira, when she refers to the Wind Spirit as a "slut".

    Not many puns, though. The story has heaps more tragedy than other DQ games though. Even better, you can often see the effects of those bittersweet endings years or even centuries after!

    For example, in one village a priest takes on the form of a monster to protect the citizens. So long as he's in that form, the monsters will not attack. But he is stripped of his ability to speak, so the villagers attack and nearly kill him until you manage to set things right.

    About a century or three passes when you return to the present, and you find the villagers lied to themselves and their descendants, and that YOU were made into the villains of the tale! You manage to help some kids uncover the truth behind it, and nobody believes them. The only inkling of hope is that the kids vow to tell their future generations the truth.

    Man, DQ7 got real depressing at times.

  14. Okay, I didn't quite lose as much progress as I thought. Also, last night I went and re-completed the priest quest, this time being smart and running around on lava a lot to reduce my HP (instead of fighting thousands of drakulards and hoping for the best).

    Right now my team is Armamentalist, Ranger, Gladiator, and Warrior. They're all strong and well-defended but I'm still avoiding grottoes because none of them have learned Multiheal (and I kind of doubt they ever will).

    But man, what's with this game keeping all the best spells an absurd amount of time? By level 40 in other games you're already supposed to know Kazing and Kafrizz and HealUsAll so on.

    I lost some of my save data because the game cart accidentally pooped out while it was in my jeans pocket.

    Basically an entire day and a half of stuff, including the Level 40 Priest quest. So I'm mad now.

    I don't feel like playing. :(

  16. I'm basically grinding levels, but after level 40 it's almost unbearable. The mere existence of the Darkonium Slime seems counterintuitive to the premise of the aftergame. They're tough as nails, super-powerful, and offer pitiful experience and cash, especially when compared to the monsters in the final dungeon and elsewhere. They're just... a freakin' stopgap, to keep you from surviving higher-level grottoes unless you've alchemized awesome equipment.

    That said, jerkfaces like the Octagoon are just as bad... But I don't want to have to fight 50 arduous battles just to gain a single level, especially with diminishing returns in skill points.

    Oh well, guess I just gotta get a hundred alchemy items and go at it.
