OCR00800 - *YES* Chrono Trigger 'The Trial in Concert' *FT*
DarkCecil13 replied to orkybash's topic in Judges Decisions
Wonderful piano arrangement - Had it for ages. Heard it many times. YES -
Starblaze (Evan Pattison) ask me to post his latest mix on the boards for him. I know there's a massive queue right now, but it'll just be sent it anyway. http://remix.overclocked.org/detailremixer.php?mixerid=266 EDIT: We reencoded it at 128-160vbr and it sounds good and is much smaller, Get it from this link: For all those who voted no due to the filesize bitrate problems, please revote. Thank you. -Pro

*NO* Final Fantasy 10 'The Other Otherworld'
DarkCecil13 replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
Decent rearrangement of the original limiting oneself to GM MIDI soundsets. Regardless, this mix is too repetitive. If you're looking for better samples, check out the OC ReMix ReMixing 101. There are tons of links to samples which would have worked better in this mix. Think about that for next time - NO -
OCR00810 - *YES* Ultima 6 'Gates of Creation'
DarkCecil13 replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
Beautiful, soothing synths - Until about 0:55, then it falls apart due to the fact that the powerful main lead isn't even backuped by a powerful drumbeat. Just sounds too weak for my tastes. I like this mix too much to say no to - Nicely done for a new ReMixer. Great job mastering / panning / not using too much reverb. YES -
This sounds almost identical to the original - Is this original? Not very. The original sounds more pleasing to my ears than BitMaP's arrangement. And at about 1:42, the bass sounds really funky and off. Doesn't stray from the original effectively - NO

*NO* Chrono Trigger 'Brink of Insanity'
DarkCecil13 replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
I've had this song for ages - The problem I've always had with it is in how he made such an originally beautiful emotional track into a rather boring dancy piece. The bassline is REALLY weird, and doesn't work with the melodies. I REALLY loved the original, and all I can say about Brink of Insanity is that it successfully drives me insane that it ruins (yes ruins) the quality of the original. Arrangement wise, it sounds quite a bit like the original with a bassline and drumbeat on top. Nothing super special - NO -
OCR00796 - *YES* Lunar 2 'Orange October'
DarkCecil13 replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
Wow. This mix is super beautiful. I love those strings. Quinn Fox could have done a better job mastering it, though - Quite quiet at times, but that's acceptable since it is a beautiful peaceful arrangement. YES -
OCR00073 - *YES* Lotus 2 RECS 'Overdrive'
DarkCecil13 replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
Totally rad. YES -
Nothing new compared to the original here expect off-key notes that REALLY hurt. The beat really stinks also (Which is the only thing really added). NO

*NO* Final Fantasy 4 'Away from It All'
DarkCecil13 replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
Uh... Really low quality encoding/samples - That open hi-hat sample HURTS. This mix is basically the original melody over this low quality fiesta drumbeat. NO -
I wubbles Ninja Gaiden - But I can't say the same about this mix. The encoding quality is a little sketchy, but that's only because this mix is so long. To a certain extent, it's repetitive, but I don't find it to be that bad. The percussion doesn't work very well - Another thing that really bothers me is the lack of panning - Everything seems to blur together, which is not good. The ending is REALLY strange. I was like WTF. Totally unexpected. Nostalgic mix with the chiptunishness, but the bad outweighs the good. NO

*NO* Final Fantasy 6 'The Falcon Funeral March'
DarkCecil13 replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
The beginning is pretty cool with the choirs and all - Then, with the tubular bells scattered about, and some pretty cool SFX - It's overall a pretty cool sounding mix. Very mysterious. It gets old after a short while, though - this mix doesn't build upon what was introduced. There is no real climatic part of any sort - It's all pretty much an introduction to a lame ending (yes, the ending isn't very special). NO -
OCR00873 - *YES* Chrono Trigger 'Town Life in Piano'
DarkCecil13 replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
I've had this song for ages from kLuTz's website. I dig piano arrangements. YES. Absolutely beautiful. -
OCR00795 - *YES* Final Fantasy 9 'Rose of April'
DarkCecil13 replied to DarkCecil13's topic in Judges Decisions
A short and sweet beautiful arrangement of an originally great Final Fantasy 9 tune. Nothing I can possibly say bad about it - I simply love it. I dig those pizzicatos YES -
Ahhh, okay, lots of bad notes and deadly dissonance. Clipping in several spots, also. This piece just gets on my nerves Too many bad notes, and that space synth is headache inducing. Sorry, but NO Suggestion: Stop using FL Trial. Not being able to modify pieces of music you've written is killer to new remixers.

<Beej> okay this is a pretty old one, but I figure that I need to submit it as it's probably the most easily disgested mix that I've made. <Beej> the "grainy" sound is intentional, and I edited every sample to make it sound "grainy" and "lo-fi". <Beej> that should be about it <DarkCecil13> Okay. <Beej> remixer name "Beej", email address nick@kodoku.nu <DarkCecil13> <Beej> thank you sir! <Beej> I appreciate this <DarkCecil13> I'm listening to it myself right now. <DarkCecil13> I like what I hear so far. <Beej> thank you <Beej> I just finished up another mix too <DarkCecil13> oooh yes, this is nice. YES

OCR00789 - *YES* Chrono Trigger 'Temporal Distortion' *FT*
DarkCecil13 replied to Protricity's topic in Judges Decisions
Damn best Chrono Trigger ReMix ever. Gave him suggestions as he produced it. It's just that good. YES -
*NO* Super Mario World 'Slap Bass Spellunking'
DarkCecil13 replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
Okay, this is kinda cool - BUT, the bass line is getting on my nerves. This mix is much too repetitive. You've got that weird instrument panned to the left doing it's DO DO DO DO DO DO DO thing, and it doesn't that for almost the entire song. Just gets on my nerves like that. Other than that, I like some of what goes on in this mix. I love the strings starting at 1:37. But, the same beat and bassline are still here. I was expecting atleast SOME variation. Not to mention that it is off-key NO -
*NO* Sonic the Hedgehog 3 'Endless Mine Endless Party'
DarkCecil13 replied to orkybash's topic in Judges Decisions
Orkybash: No, I don't remember hearing this My only concern is the sketchy mp3 encoding quality. Aside from that, this arrangement is put together quite well. YES -
*NO* Final Fantasy 7 'Boss Battle Extreme' *FT*
DarkCecil13 replied to orkybash's topic in Judges Decisions
Okay, I've heard this from somewhere before. *** Searches Playlist *** I have this exact same song, only it has no ID3 or ID3v2 tags, and I've had it for who knows how long. It's file name is Final Fantasy 7 - Boss Battle (Techno Remix).mp3. On a side note, Orkybash says this is the same length as the OST version of the boss battle. I don't know where he got the idea from considering the length of the OST version is 3:31. Though, in Auron's ID3 and ID3v2 tags, he states that this mix is was written in 1998. Final Fantasy 7 was released in mid-late 1997. Aside from that, there's nothing really new or different introduced here. It's somewhat cool, but that's because the original is somewhat cool, and this sounds quite a bit like the original. The ReMixer could have also done a better job mastering the track. Sounds quite muffled at times - Not sure to what extent he intentionally did this. Also, the mp3 encoding method used is quite sketchy. Lots of artifacts. Because of my uncertainty of the true origin of this ReMix and the lack of originality in the production... I vote: NO -
master wanted me to post this piece of work on the boards for him. MasterGrand: alright MasterGrand: well, when you get back. you think you can submit a song to the panel for me? *NO* Legend of Zelda 'Hymn to Death Mountain'
DarkCecil13 replied to orkybash's topic in Judges Decisions
The guitars are the big focus on the mix - Which is definitely you can expect for something of the deathmetal genre. Though, the drums are not up to the caliber of what I'd expect for a piece of deathmetal. The drumtrack is a basic 4/4 rock beat w/ quarter beat open-hihats. Not very creative. No fills, hardly any variation - Just sounds weird to me. Now, what really sounds weird is the chiptune part. It just doesn't work. The ending guitar part is pretty well done, but it's certainly not enough to push my vote to a yes. NO -
*NO* Sonic the Hedgehog 3 'Angelic Beat'
DarkCecil13 replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
As Orkybash said, the piano sample is thin. For the most part, this mix is put together quite well - Definitely for someone so new. Though, the ending is a bit abrupt. There is also some relatively nice use of panning. Nevertheless, this mix could use some more atmosphere. This is mostly to blame due to the piano used. NO
