  1. I know it's not the most accurate thing in the world, but your could always run the english remixing guides through babelfish. http://babelfish.altavista.com/ I think TO's advice was best though. Check the stickies in the remixing forums. Good luck!
  2. Fixed. Also, Gameover's vox are perfect for their genre... and don't get me wrong here, I'm a big Darangen fan, but his vocal techinques are sub-par. I think they could be FANTASTIC with some practice and some training, but as they are in this song... they need work. Granted, they aren't as bad as some people are making them out to be.
  3. The big problem with that is that I doubt she has the money to aford any decent recording equipment. I showed aher audacity, but to get reasonable sound quality at all, she would need to spend $50+ for a good microphone. I think she's doing this out of her dorm room too, so outside noise would likely leak in. Lemme restate the main problem. She's not trying to do any extensive sequencing... I don't think she understands too much about that. The problem is that Finale is messing with the notes she puts in (which makes a little more sense now, thanks to Ubernym). And thanks for the soundfont suggestions. I'll point those her way.
  4. Wait... you're just looping it around... if you're suggesting to record audio from the keyboard then why not just keyboard audio out to computer line in? Because it seemed like she wanted it in midi for some reason.. for quantizing? I don't know. You are right, why bother with midi if you want live piano? I got the impression that her problem with Finale was that it wasn't recording the notes correctly. I've never used the program, but my guess would be that it either tries to make the notes fit within a measure or rounds each note off to a quarter note, half note, whole note, etc. rather than the real-time length of the note.

  6. Wasn't sure where else to post this, but feel free to move it if it's not in the right place. A friend of mine wants to record her piano playing onto her computer via MIDI, and be able to burn it onto a playable audio CD. Preferably, something that isn't gunna break the bank. She says that she has Finale, but "it just has a tendency to give things the wrong value I still have to go back into it and reassign the values and such." She also says she doesn't like how finale's piano sounds sound fake. She wants something she can sing with. Suggestions, people?
  7. Fair enough. Basically, you're saying that the genre bugs you and it seems a bit too cliche, musically speaking. And honestly, I'd have too agree. But I think that was intentional. It seems to me that Darangen was trying to take a familiar cliche style, and make it into something a little more by adding the Gerudo theme to it. The difference is that I liked it and you didn't. And that's cool. I just get annoyed when someone labels a song "bad" without admitting that it's just their own opinion.
  8. What makes a word offensive? It's when some means it offensively and/or people take offense to it. With the exception of old books like Mark Twain, I have never heard the word used in a negative way. In fact, the only other times I've ever heard that word was when it was used to refer to someone that the person was particularly fond of. I have a white friend (who hangs out with a lot of black people), who was telling me about how one of the greatest honors he has ever felt was when his black friends started refering to him as "nigga" (as well as each other). I was hanging out with a black pastor in the city, and several of his friends who were very happy to see him exclaimed "Hey! There's my nigger!"... to a pastor. The truth is that the word "nigger" is a very context sensitive word and has changed in meaning. Anyways, I fear that I'm helping this thread derail, so I'll say a little something about the song and hopefully get us back on track here.... That bass line is really nice. That alone can get stuck in your head for a while. The rest of the song is catchy too. It'll get lodged in your head pretty bad, which is a curse and a blessing. It's a good thing, because it's a fun song, but you really have to be careful not to start singing it around certain people... for obvious reasons. I noticed that there is some fuzz going on in the background. Really not a big deal, but I couldn't help but notice that this wasn't exactly the most well-recorded song I've ever heard. Casual listeners will probably never notice the difference. I can tell from little things like the pitch shifting part and the little Michael Jackson sounding thing at the end that you guys had fun making this. At times it almost seems like a really well put together joke tune, which I appreciate. Wait a minute... are you guys even black? I might have a problem with the whole "nigga" thing after all. The key change near the end is a bit jarring, and it seems no matter how many times I listen to the song (I've had this song for a while) I can't get used to it. I adjust to key changes just fine... even the harsh ones... but even by the end of this song, my head is stick stuck in the key that you were in for the first part. Frankly, I think it was an unnecessary addition of the song, and it would have done fine (better actually) without it. Besides that, this is one of my favorite songs on the site. I currently have this song as track 2 on a mix CD that I've been listening to non-stop lately, and it hasn't gotten old yet. Even though I don't usually listen to rap music, I guess there's something about OC Remix brings out some very entertaining rap. It's good stuff. MORE RAP MIXES, PEOPLE!
  9. Could you say why? Honestly, I could see how someone wouldn't enjoy this because of the vocals or the genre or any number of other reasons... but if you analyze the piece critically, you can't deny that there is a great amount of skill put into this song in both instrumentation and production. Of course it's okay to say you don't like it. But if you're going to say that this is outright bad, back up your claim by giving some reasons. Empty criticism isn't going to help Darangen put out better music.
  10. First of all, I've gotta say that I've always enjoyed Darangen's music. One of my favorite remixers easily. Now for the song... I really enjoy songs like this that have vocals and a more radio-friendly style. Makes it a lot easier to get my friends hooked on OC Remixes . My only major complaints about this song are... a) Could have done with our the lead guitar in the chorus. The vocals already fill the need for the melody line there. Having the guitar parallel the vox seemed a bit redundant and out of place. I really like the vocal line a lot, but a song like this needed a more heavier, powerful rock-type voice. That's not to say that you don't sing well... yeah a bit beginnerish, but that doesn't bother me too much. I actually like the sound of your voice a lot, and with some practice and some voice lessons, it could be great. I just don't think it compliments this style too well. A thicker, lower voice would have done the trick. Besides that, this will definately be going on my favorites playlist. I really like the lyrics a lot, and it doesn't get boring very fast. I'm listening to it on loop right now. Here's for hopiing for more vocal mixes like this in the future. Nice work, Darangen!
  11. I hope you don't mind it being a bit on the abstract side. I may change the text so that it doesn't jump around quite so much. If it bothers you please let me know. (Imageshack is being a little stubborn, so it may take some time to load.) I captured it from an applet from this site. Kinda... weird... but I think I like it. Thanks a bunch, CapnHulk! EDIT: Checked out that website... he's got some pretty neat stuff on there. Thanks for the link!
  12. I think it's probably time I get a sig of my own... So I'm thinking something with a sinewave in it. And my name. Sinewav. (not sine.wav). I don't really know what to expect, so feel free to get creative with the idea. Some cool looking animation would also be nice, but it's not that important. Just as long as the sig looks cool.
  13. Dshu, you're my hero. Now I have a reason to start playing piano again. :cryingwithjoy:
  14. Yeah, I'm still (sort of) working on mine. I have every intention to have it finished by the deadline, so I certainly hope it's not dead. BTW, does anybody want to take 1-02 Where Angels Fear to Tread from me? I love the tune, but I can seem to come up with anything that does it justice.
  15. Oh, phew! I was afraid you were gunna shoot for the end of december or something. This is great. I should have plenty of time to get my equiptment working again. Thanks.
  16. I think...hmm....I think I will give it to you *signs up* Yeah, and if you need some special instruments you can't do with reason (for exammple some realistic sounding acoustic ones or ethnic ones) just drop me a line and I will help you Thanks man. For 1-02 I was planning on something more of a good ol' rock song, with some possible vocals. So samples probably aren't gunna make the cut. I might make a rough MIDI version though, just so I have a WIP to post.
  17. Better buy a 50-pack spindle. It seems like one of the toughest things will be to make sure that each track individually is worth listening to as well. I dont know about anybody else, but if it gets to the point mine are unlistenable you guys can remove me and I wont get upset. Maybe if I can find a cheap program to make midi's I can get around my crappy soundfonts... BTW, I think I'm gonna start Raven from scratch. Maybe I'll incorporate the string parts else where but I dont think it will piano anymore. If you want to do your mix in MIDI, I volunteer to record it! Just to let you know. This does not only apply to you Yeah man, if your arrangement is decent and you're only using MIDI, I'd be happy to run through Reason 3.0 for some better samples. Usa, my audio recording equiptment is acing weird and there's not much I can do with 1-02 Where Angels Fear to Tread, until I get it figured out. Now, I still want to keep the track, but I was wondering if I could try my hand at 2-01 Left-handed Wolf as well. I've got some ideas in mind that would only require MIDI. If someone else really wants the track bad, I'd be perfectly willing to hand it over to them, or collaborate. Lemme know what you think.
  18. This song makes me wanna disco dance! Really nice bassline and drums. po!'s violin playing is always a plus too. Good job guys!
  19. IS it ok if I make a reference to another song that I didn't sign up for? There's a part in my mix (1-02 Where Angels Fear to Tread) where a part of 3-12 (Angel's Fear) would fit in perfectly.
  20. Ah, I see... Dang, I just realized how huge this project is. How many CDs will this go on?
  21. What you could do is set up one of those freebie message board systems and then PM the URL only to the remixers who are on the project. Just an idea to prevent future hacking.
  22. Sweet! Sign me up then, for 1-02. I do have two more questions... First where is this other board that you speak of? Secondly, do I still need to have a WIP in by the 15th? That would mean it is due on Tuesday. I haven't even started remixing yet....
  23. Man... am I right in seeing that no one has taken 1-02 yet? Where Angels Fear to Tread? That song is beautiful. Is there some kind of audition process for this project? Any certain genre or theme you're looking for? If I'm allowed, I'd really like to take this song.
  24. Hey, um... it says on the main page that Monobrow has Tail Cave... did I get bumped out of the project, or did you just forget to add my name? I PM'd him earlier about collaborating. Also, assuming that I'm still in, when you say that you want the songs to be "moody", are you looking for a darker sound or a more peaceful sound?
  25. well, I've only listened to the Ct remix wip as yet, but it sounds pretty good. I'll sign you up. Sweet. So assuming that you don't change your mind and kick me out after hearing the other songs (), can I take on Tail Cave? I'm thinking sort of a darker ambient/orchestral sound with more of an emphasis on the ambient.
