this is all I could think of. Feel free to erase the text and put other things in it [after all, it's not mine!] that's a pretty awesome guitar though. When did you make that?

Well, since they're all specialised trackers, I suggest using the one with your favourite sound chip of the moment -
You see that knob on the left of your midi keyboard? Touch it.

n00b question: Why did you pick [software name here]?
OverCoat replied to Penfold's topic in Music Composition & Production
I used FL for years because.... well, everyone else used it I switched to Renoise recently, because of my extremely belated love and appreciation of tracking but it's a perfectly capable program, and the only one that isn't overpriced and loaded with licensing and anti-piracy bullshit [dongles, randomly asking you to reregister your license, etc]. Also, the 1.9 beta that just came out is more awesome. I like it better than something with piano rolls, though I do think FL Studio is fine. I wouldn't recommend a beginner try to start out with Renoise. Well, actually I would, it's not as hard as one would think. But it's more if you like "programming" your music, and having ultimate control over wav samples. Ideal for electronic musicians, but probably not for the more traditional composers. -
Date Release Id File info Artist Title 21/07/07 mtk.mp3.186 [5 tracks, 21 minutes, 28.1mb] Renzu 'Reiha EP' Message>> We're delighted to debut the first Monotonik release from the Chicago-based Renzu, a professional 3D animator and self-described 'animation nerd' and composer of rather deliciously lush IDM soundscapes. And the 'Reiha EP' is just a sampling of his layered, deceptively complex electronic music stylings. Renzu explains of his background: "My story is very typical of my generation of IDM artists in that I got inspired by BBS/internet computer music and started with trackers from an early age (10) and went from there. Following the artists of that general lineage and/or demoscene-relation like Lackluster, Sense, Esem, MD, Proem, Brothomstates and so on -- it's no surprise I'm a fan of Monotonik." Well, it certainly makes a lot of sense on the label, with the opening 'Serifu' showing cascading rivulets of sound, before the title track ticks along beautifully with an almost Blade Runner-esque alien tinge to the electronics. Other highlights include 'Akihabara Time-Lapse', with voices sampled from Japanese talking calendar software, counting up the hours of the day and the days of the month. And 'Leviathan' is an epic boom bip of an ending lament. Thanks again to Renzu for providing the noise. Download Renzu's 'Reiha EP' from: 1. "Serifu" - (d/l archive.org support.nl scene.org) 2. OverClocked ReMix Design ?'s and Issues

Larry, Help people understand how to reply to threads properly. Threaded/Hybrid mode good. A lot of people are replying to random posts in the middle of gigantic threads which make things really hard to follow, especially when they don't quote things. Not quoting things would be fine, if they reply to the right post though. IMO Linear mode and Hybrid/Threaded Mode cannot coexist properly. TIME TO FORCE ONE OR THE OTHER -

I'm not. The only commercial thing I have in my studio is Renoise [~$72], everything else was free, and I think I get pretty damn good results. I guess I could get a free sequencer or tracker too, but Renoise is just too fucking awesome and it's actually fairly priced. And yes, I USED to have a bunch of pirated stuff, but once you know what you're looking for on kvraudio.com, NI Komplete and overpriced shit like that is redundant and pointless. The only thing I need to pay big money for is ethnic instruments, because there is, sadly, no free alternative to QL RA or EthnoWorld. I skimp on FX plugins, too. I'm just not gonna shell out $300 for a reverb, no matter how crisp and pristine it sounds. Plenty of people think it's worth it though. I feel bad for those people. -
I believe they were bought out by Vivendi and then were all fired sometime after, or they just got rid of the company name and were assimilated... I forget. That was their karmic punishment for doing the same thing to Dynamix [who made TRIBES and Red Baron games, among others] :[

Why must quality be such a thing on this site...
OverCoat replied to Nicholestien's topic in Music Composition & Production
Has anyone pointed out yet that "quality is such a thing" or should be a "thing" in pretty much any situation? because t -
It is in a neat list - see that threaded list in the box above the viewable posts? I don't have time to make a gigantic list, seriously. And most of the music I post comes from only 3 or 4 sites anyway. You're too demanding T_T

http://ekid.nintendev.com/xms/ to make .xm files, use FastTracker 2 or Modplug Tracker, the readme for XMSNES gives you more guidelines. now, get tracking, 64 kb at a time :3 though I don't consider SPC "chiptunes" myself, enough other people do so whatever. If you wanted to make NES or Genesis music, I can point you to FamiTracker and TFM Maker, respectively Also yes, it is confusing. At first, anyway. But this is the method composers had to use back then, and it's kinda fun for people like me -

Day of the Tentacle seems like a game that would run well under DOSBox. Give that a shot, it's a handy little DOS emulator.

Is Cubase more for live recording than MIDI?
OverCoat replied to SSB's topic in Music Composition & Production
The step sequencer is shit. I realize FL was basically built around this thing, but I think it's time for it give up the ghost. FruityLoops is no longer a dedicated "beat maker" and it hasn't been for a long time. FL's piano roll kicks ass, but I haven't used the Cubase one yet. Not really planning on using any DAWs for now.
