  1. This is BADASS! I think this is my favorite take on this song to date. I love the stereo separation in your instruments and the use of the clown car approach sfx. What's more, you used the original theme without needlessly adding notes all over the place and then added onto it afterward - taking the melody into a great progression the original song didn't feature. THAT'S my favorite kind of mix. The beat is also pretty awesome, and liberal distortion is very close to my heart.
  2. A lot of people I know who do this only download games they wouldn't have bought anyway. In those cases nobody loses money and nobody gains money. I'd say the portion who download everything are the actual problem. And frankly, people who download games aren't going to care if you're angry on the internet, so why bother?
  3. Man I don't know - I LOVED sunshine. I think Sunshine still has the best controlling Mario of any 3d mario game - and also I suppose the best control of any 3d action platformer (with the exception of the camera, which could have used a bit of work). But as far as Mario's physics, I'd always thought they nailed it in Sunshine. I think the main difference when you compare the physics in Sunshine and Galaxy is that in Sunshine you move faster horizontally and don't jump as high, where in Galaxy you jump higher but move slower. But both of them feel much more refined and polished to me than 64's control (especially where, say, wall-kicking and side-flipping are concerned). If nothing else, I got a really strong impression that Mario Galaxy was MUCH more like the old style Mario games (particularly Mario Bros. 3) than Mario 64 was. Anyway I'll be getting Wario Land ASAP because the Wario Lands are some of my favorite games ever, by far, and I desperately need them to keep making more.
  4. Oh, AWESOME! Well then I'll definitely have to send some money your way!
  5. Also have you decided if you will you be selling this or offering it free as you did with Everlast and In the Dark? Your preview track sounds excellent!
  6. Well first you've got to be like a, uhh, Amadeus or something. Like a Mozart. Then people will see you're just... one of the greatest.
  7. Personally, I use a 4.75in by 4.75in square for the front cover and another for the inside front (when you open the jewel box). I actually use a long 9.5in by 4.75in format (just double the length) and have the right half be the front cover and the left be the inside front so that when I print it I can just fold it in half and slide it into the box. The CD label is a circle just barely not touching the edges of another square of the same size. I think it's best to find a CD label template to use first and then just fill in what you want (or overlay it). The trayliner (back cover) winds up being 4.75in tall and about 6in wide because you have to account for the two folding flaps that go on the two spines of the CD box. As for programs, DEFINITELY go with Photoshop or Gimp. Also Illustrator works fine if you know how to use it.
  8. Looks amazing. I can't wait. I wish more companies would do throwback games like this (which is why I've always loved handheld games which seem to usually harken back to the previous generation). I'd KILL for a new side-scrolling Metroid.
  9. I wanted to bump this because I just listened to it again and it is genius.
  10. Well there's always this: http://tasvideos.org/1124M.html This guy does Mario RPG in 2 hours, 35 min, tool assisted. As for me, I don't remember how fast I'd ever beaten it as it's been a LONG time since I've played. I'll have to get to work fixing that. And as for the quickest game I'VE ever finished, it would have to be Super Mario Land. I played it so much when I was a little kid that I got every secret, every point and time saving technique down to an art.
  11. I'm DOWN for a 2.5D metroid for DS.
  12. Wingless, I think having multiple consoles incites competition, which can only improve such a massive industry. Having one console and one company at the head of everything means way too much power and control over something so big. It's the same reason I wouldn't want one company to own the movie industry.
  13. Thanks atma! Stuff like that means a lot. Yeah though pretty much I'm coming to realize that it's a really hard problem to solve. You make things for free and people can assume it isn't good enough to be sold, and if you start selling you risk limiting or losing the listeners you already have and or could have had. My general plan is to make a couple more free things and put them everywhere I possibly can and hope enough people listen to them to make selling future things a reality (and only if that's likely to lead to more listeners). All that said - I love garden art! I remember when you put that out before and I still love it. Third, Fourth, Sixth and Ninth are my favorites (especially Fourth).
  14. There's no single thing that totally defines any series. Up until Prime 3, isolation is just as much a factor of the atmosphere as the exploration and backtracking. WBS, I agree that a lot of the fun of Prime 3 is finally being able to interact with other characters. I still hold, though, that this sort of interaction felt out of place in the Metroid series. Thankfully Prime 3 seemed to integrate it pretty well and still provide at least some of the vibe of the previous games (which to me, is the very most important thing). One thing Prime 3 did excellently on that I agree with Nekofrog on is the expansion of the storyline. The Metroid universe is extremely rich and wide-open and it seems a shame not to regularly go a bit more indepth on some things. I would DEFINITELY not complain if they kept up this level of storytelling in future games. About the bosses - WBS, I meant that the bosses of Prime 2 were the best of the series in that they were simply the best designed. Each relied at least in part on the item you recently got while still requiring some ingenuity to figure out the puzzle. Plus, each one was usually lengthy with multiple forms and had a good amount of challenge to it! I LOVE bosses that require you to switch into morph ball and back, or ones that make you switch visors back and forth to keep up, and Prime 2 had this in spades (though I'll grant you their names weren't very interesting). Still, I liked the idea very much of each boss having one of your stolen abilities that you had to fight to "earn back". I won't defend most of the Dark World music you ragged on because it wasn't really music...but the main game's music I still feel was much more Metroidy than Prime 3's music (which, no matter how you slice it, is very important to continuity of the trilogy). In a nutshell, I like Prime 2 more than Prime 3 because it fits in better and I'm crazy about continuity and I found the scheme of deep exploration of the dual-world to be way more engaging than light exploration of multiple worlds. But yeah. Mario RPG.
  15. I know this isn't a Metroid thread, but I beg to differ - Prime 2 still nailed (not as much as the first Prime, but better than 3) the isolated atmosphere Metroid relies on. Plus, Torvus Bog and particularly the Sanctuary Fortress were just plain awesome (and Prime 2 had a lot more area to explore what with the dual worlds). What's more, I think Prime 2 had the best boss fights of the series. Prime 3s were still very well done, in my opinion, but not as good. Prime 3 sacrifices atmosphere and traditional Metroid play for awesome control and a coherent and more important storyline. Depending on how important each of those is to you, I can easily see people liking either over the other. But yeah. Mario RPG.
  16. You guys know what you've done to me? Now I have to go play all the Mario RPGs again.
  17. The Conduit? Think it's still on the way. EDIT: Q1 2009.
  18. We're getting near 3 days - this might be a new record!
  19. Yeah it's pretty much amazing and reminds me of my childhood. I wonder how people would react if Square and Nintendo came back together for a new Mario RPG (of course I guess now that Nintendo has way stricter standards for its main franchise characters it wouldn't be as "different" from regular mario as Mario RPG was back in the day).
  20. ~ Like the moon over ~ ~ the day, my genius and brawn ~ ~ are lost on these fools ~
  21. It is the only one just for me.
  22. I wonder if this will be any good. I hope above all it will have similar play to something like liberty city stories even if the graphics have to look terrible to do it.
