More like a poorly done crop. Those are the images from the character select screen, cropped since they were bigger than 32 x 32, but no resizing. Since I recently reformated my hd, and haven't gotten around to installing any software on it, I can't fix those up for ya, but maybe someone else can do it. I'll see if I can get the screenshot I used. For pixel by pixel work Paint works just fine, you know!

Fixed what was requested and made some new ones! Tried to make them all nice and bright. Bomberman: LT: Just took the second. Final Fantasy IV: LT: Cool. Final Fantasy VI: LT: Yep. Final Fantasy VII: LT: Took the darker red one, I believe. One of 'em anyway, obviously no need for both. Guilty Gear: Dizzy LT: A butterface. Nah, I'm sure there are better pic choices. Mario Kart: LT: Of course. Puyo Puyo: Arle LT: Why not. SMB: Made the background black but it looks pretty cruddy. LT: My suggestion would be to add a gold border around the edge of the pic, and shrink and center Boswer so none of him touches the border except his feet. Space Harrier: LT: Would make no sense if I hadn't seen the game once. Street Fighter 3: Chun-Li Ibuki Poison LT: For some reason, the scaling doesn't look 1:1. I think the pics look vertically squished. If not, make it 1:1. If so, add a solid background color, as the transparency somehow doesn't make it look right. Tetris: LT: Cool. Can you provide any other letters in different colors?

Well, the zombie is a little dark, but I think the first few are okay. I could brighten them, but I like leaving the game's original colors. I'll see what Liontamer has to say!

Okay here they are as promised! Bomberman: LT: Coo. Castlevania (I really like the first ghost one!): LT: The last two are too shrunken down to look good (aw man, that skull was badass too). I took the hunchback facing to the right. Kind of odd how the pixels of the two aren't exact mirrors of each other. Phantasy Star: Lassic Dr. Mad Evilhead (did all three color swaps for the hell of it) LT: Dr. Mad and Evilhead are ugly, but I had pity on your plight. The others look badass. djp will be happy for Phantasy Star. River City Ransom: LT: Long overdue it seems. Super Mario Bros: LT: Well, I see what you were trying to do with Bowser. Since the transparency didn't look good, you went for a solid background. But Bowser looks out of place with a blue, Overworld-style background. He's a Castle guy, so make it black. Lakitu and Phobo are good. Space Harrier: LT: The Genesis sprites always seem to be dark. Brighten the first one. Forget the second. Tetris: LT: Being picky, but it just looks like a square with a piece missing. How about seperate I, T, O, L, J, S, and Z pieces?

Working on a set of avatars but MS Paint at work is being a real pain... Won't let me save with transparencies. I'll post some soon once I can use Photoshop at home tonight.

I don't have much else to add either, other than I really like this! I know some vocal pieces can be hard to pull off, and some just sound... bad, but damn, this one really came through! I think a lot of people on here have been way too critical of the vocals, but I guess everyone has their opinions. I think ALL of the vocals sound great, not just Jill, who of course is wonderful as usual. Shonensamurai does a fantastic job, and he has a great, unique voice. Warm and quirky, kind of like the dudes from They Might Be Giants. It really works well with this kind of song, which is pretty light hearted and relaxing. It is a bit short, but that's not much of a complaint, as I just want it to go on for a long time. Congrats on a great mix, and the fact that you guys had fun with this one really shows!

Very nice song here! The SoE soundtrack is one of my favorite game soundtracks of all time, and it really doesn't get enough coverage. This one is very nice to listen to and really brings back some memories. I guess my only complaint would be that it really does follow the original very closely, but with a source this good that's really not a bad thing. Nice one.

No, I think you're right. Japan is the flavor of the month lately, and of course anything popular will gather hate from everyone else simply due to the fact that it is popular. The the rest of us non-Yugi-Oh fans, Japanese is a beautiful language! I do have to say that her pronunciation WAS quite good. Honestly when she posted her first recording of it I was almost wincing before I played it because I thought she would butcher it. I have many American friends here with AWFUL Japanese pronunciation, and it drives me completely insane. Poorly spoken Japanese is a real pet peeve of mine, actually. But when I heard it I was surprised at how good it sounded from someone who had never been taught it formally before. A few other posters and myself gave her some tips on how to improve and she heeded the advice right very well! She mentioned finding someone locally to help her with the pronunciation, and that would be great help as well. Nothing can really beat having someone right there helping you. Hopefully you can find someone Jill!

I can see both sides of the argument here, and something similar popped up way back when with GrayLightning and a particular mix he submitted. Basically it boils down to intention. If critics say, "this section kind of rubbed me the wrong way" and the artist doesn't really have any justification for it, then it's critisism that should probably be heeded. But obviously she knows what she's doing and intended the dissonance. Maybe even adding a little more! Just like many of you would go to a Butoh performance and say, "What the hell? Why is that old man wearing a torn nighty and convulsing on stage? Is he some insane bum?" You might not like it, but what he is doing is very intentional, probably in order to stir up emotions such as the ones you would have. Same kind of thing applies to this mix!

That's certainly a valid question. But I think my decision not to change it is justifiable. I wanted to contrast the more spooky, ethereal parts with an uplifting melody...a prayer arising from darkness. Hence the scary breath stuff and thumping in the beginning. If I had changed the source material for the mix, I don't think it would have been as powerful. Yes, I'm going to have to agree here. Dissonance, tension, and release are key parts to just about any kind of music from jazz to punk rock. A homogenious soundscape quickly gets boring, and the parts as sung definitely serve a purpose and were obviously intentional. And I'll also defend her pronunciation. As a few other people mentioned a lot of singers "mispronounce" Japanese in their songs. The reason being Japanese is for the most part a quite monotonic language without much vartiation in volume or pitch. In order to lend Japanese to song, a lot of singers take some liberties with the language and use the sylabry in a more liberal way. Japanese hip-hop is a great example of this. I sometimes find myself cringing at the English accents of some Japanese rappers. They sound like 1st or 2nd year American Japanese language students (no offense guys!). But the reason for this is that they are imitating the rhythm, accents, and flow of American rappers, and distort the language according accordingly. As someone who is fluent in Japanese and speaks it all day every day, I have to say I was impressed at how well Jill pulled this off despite her limited experience with the language. Great job!

I'm glad this finally got posted!! I really love this mix. It's been my favorite WIP for a long time and definitely deserved to be an OC Remix. True the original tune isn't incorporated ALL that much, but the lyrics and vocals in general are awesome. I even got a few of my friends into this one a ways back. Excellent work.

I haven't played this game either, but it doesn't keep me from enjoying this great mix! I'm always a big fan of analoq's mixes and this one is no exception. Everything sounds great, especially all the crazy computered-out vocals. Thanks!!

Wow, several mixes by some of my favorite remixers tonight. I'm very happy! Anyway, as expected this is a great mix, McVaffe. You are truly a master!! This mix is so mellow and soothing; I could leave it on for hours and not get tired of it. Yet it's also quite complex, as DJP said, the details are where it's at. Thanks for making this great mix, and we can only hope for more if you have the time!

Damn, I've been waiting a while for the next mix by DJP!! This one definitely doesn't disappoint; very high quality all around. In fact, it's quickly becoming my favorite DJP mix, which says a lot! Totally groovin' shiznit. It almost sounds like Steely Dan mixed with the Toejam and Earl sountrack mixing a Shinobi song. Excellent! To quote an unfortunate ad campaign, "i'm lovin' it"! Also, thanks for posting the rest of the awesome mixes tonight, the awesome site resign, and for creating this awesome site to begin with! Awesomeness!

Not to much to add comment-wise, but this is a FANTASTIC remix. One of the best SOR remixes I've heard, definitely in the top three!

Wow, I couldn't believe it when I saw that Jeremy Soule had submitted a remix. A very cool moment in OCR history! As far as the song itself, it's of course wonderful. Beautiful all around, and it's an arrangement of one of my favorite video game themes. Just perfect. Mr. Soule, I've been a fan of yours for quite a while... Thanks so much for submitting this great piece. It's very cool for you to do something like this!

Ah, I'm so glad this one finally got posted! The original mix was great, but it's so cool Gray Lightning decided to continue working on it when it was originally rejected rather than giving up. And it turns out he improved the already awesome mix greatly, so it is good to see something positive come out of all the drama. He's a remixer that everyone should look up to! As some of you might know, I am a huge Phantasy Star fan. Phantasy Star II, I have a particular connection with. It was the first Phantasy Star game I actually played by myself (I watched most of the first one beforehand), and I played through a lot of it with my dad when I was just a little kid, so I have fond memories of it. Anyway, I have a really special connection with the soundtrack and I have almost every Phantasy Star related song ever produced... And this mix is one of the best I have heard! I think this remix is successful on so many levels... First, it accurately expresses the mood and feeling of the original song, something a lot of mixes lack. The Phantasy Star soundtrack is so cool because it has a really unique feel to it, and Gray Lightning has managed to successfully reproduce this feel! Very hard to do, I would imagine! In fact, I'd go as far to say that I like this better then the original tune, which is saying a lot since I worship the OST. I like the slightly slower pace, and the beat really goes with the melody in this one. Also, he provides an interesting variation to the theme. The variations on the melody and the drums really make this mix worth listening to... It would be easy to just replicate the original song, but Grey Lightning has varied the song enough to make it interesting, adding great twists without losing the feel that made this song so great in the first place. Some points I really liked: The choir starting at ~1:50... It sounds so great! How did you do it so well? It's really amazing and adds another layer of depth to this mix! I also like the changes starting at ~3:00... Really keeps the mix going to the end! Also, the various instruments/soundfonts used sound really great, especially the bells and strings! Great original song, even better remix, one of the best on this site! Great job Grey Lightning, you are truly a talented and admirable remixer!

Wow, I can't believe I haven't reviewed this one yet... Well, I can't really add too much except I think this is easily one of the best mixes on the site. It's mixed perfectly, and I love the lead. Great all around. I just love it! Excellent job Digimatic!

I really love this mix... I think it's my new favorite of the entire site, replacing Mazedude's A Boy and His Blob mix... I love all the retro stuff going on here, and all the various complexities. It is mixed and recorded perfectly. The ending is really nice, repeating and fading out perfectly. I don't know what else to say other than great job!!

By the way, what the hell is this for a review? I happen the think the "phased pianoy noises" fucking rock! He uses the phaser quite well, I think. And "thud thud thudthud drum bit"? Maybe a four on the floor house beat? 4/4? Anyway, this must be one of your ealier reviews...
