I just won it (had it since Friday with a broken street date) and all I'll say is this: the ending is atrocious. Doubly atrocious when you consider how much better the over all narrative, plot structure, and campaign design is over Oblivion. Just when it starts picking up a FEVER pitch, it ends, quite unceremoniously. I sincerely hope I just stumbled on an ending that just ended abruptly, and that there other endings perhaps have some more mileage and resolution. But I get the sneaking suspicion they won't Oh well, either way, it's goty.

I would like to become a Video Game Designer
The wingless replied to Jaybell's topic in General Discussion
Design is the one area that really *has* no clear professional roadway. People who've worked in Gamestop are designers. People who were the bottom of the foodchain in QA are designers. People who've gone to game design schools are designers. It's really all over the place. But here are a few things that will never, ever steer you wrong: Find somebody in the Industry and make him you bestest buddy in the world. Games and Hollywood have many parallels, and chief among them: it's all about who you know Make an indie game. Why would anyone hire you? For your ideas? FUCK YOU, SON. Show initiative and show a quality product. Make the game. Don't know how to program? Learn or hire somebody (the latter works .01% of the time). Make that game, keep the scope childishly simply, then build off of that, and challenge yourself to do better. Build up a portfolio of games that says, "I'm pretty hot shit" Blog about games. Not just, "I don't like teh GTA!". Really deconstruct games. Read post-mortems and comment on them. Compare themes in games people might not have ever known. Doesn't matter if anyone reads your blog. You will have an actually *intellect* behind your game design decisions. Know the business. Games are 33% creative, 66% industrial, and that is a conservative estimate. Understand the business aspect, because it is directly related to game design. Know why trends ride and fall. Understand why sometimes it's better to sell well than to actually be a good game. Know why good games can bankrupt a company. that's about it. Go forth and conquer you crazy diamond. -

You know it's funny, I've mostly seen OneUps live. And when you listen to them on CD rather than in person, there's a certain sense of spectacle that's lost. The music is still fucking rock-solid. It's just... they have such a personality about them that a CD format seems almost... neutering. Whether it's in the wings watching Will try to deck Anferny with boxing gloves during Punchout at Pax, or clapping along (with those who can keep ryhtm) at Vega's theme in a sleepy little cabin atop a Arkansas hilltop, OneUps are a live event. The CD is fucking awesome. The OneUps are just fucking FUCKING awesome in person. Oh, and Mystic Cave Zone is rofflez. p.s. I'm drunk in the middle of a Sunday afternoon writing this! p.p.s Girl... you FI-YINE!

Cuz it's the same old song and dance Once the Commoners(i.e., listeners who contribute nothing) finally understand that a song may not *necessarily* be made solely for their listening pleasure, things usually return to their even keel around here. Speaking for myself, everything I've remixed has been for my own personal aural delight.

CD #2 comes up as MC Frontalot in Windows Media Player. PISSIN" ME OFF!
-
Oh, absolutely. My argument was that it would be a godsend for game companies.
-
You'd be wrong, bitch. I'm in the game's industry. I WIN. ME. NOT YOU. ME!

As part of the unwashed masses (aka, people not in the Industry) would it surprise you to know that if this actually happened, every game company the world over would weep tears of honey-joy? Costs of making games would go down significantly, the speed at which games are developed would increase, and overall quality would improve. Taking choice from the consumer? Sounds like somebody is bashing EA because he heard the cool kid on the playground say the same thing. It certainly does not sound like a coherent thought.

I heard that one time Will totally slept with like 20 girls and a dude snuck into the mix and that dude was me and I didn't apologize or anything. I also heard that Anferny can transform into a car or a silver Mecha. Oh, and Mustin has a battleship named after him. True Story.

Your Gaming Degrees ARE WORTHLESS!!!
The wingless replied to TheSnowStorm's topic in General Discussion
Oh, interesting side note: As you are no doubt aware, the Game's Industry is unbelievably tumultuous in terms of your employment. Through absolutely no fault of your own, you can be let go. Let me repeat that, because it bears repeating: your job is on loan. Having said that, having such a specialized, inflexible degree such as Game Design is a crippling disservice to you. All you can do is go into a game-related field. So if nobody in the Industry is hiring, why kind sir or madam, you are shit out of luck. But if you have a degree in, oh lets say, graphic design, you could go into a design firm, work on film/tv, freelance, etc. So since your degree is all but a formality in the eyes of The Industry, you might as well make it something you can parley into other fields. Goddamn, I'm smug today. Look at all you high school posers wishing you could be my intern's intern.
