  1. That is still huge it crackles and pops terribly if i lower it any more than about 30ms... I have a really crappy PC & soundcard.
  2. wendellian star has been submitted for the past couple weeks (as well as one back in june, which should hopefully be on the panel as soon as larry updates the flood patience, young grasshopper. as far as my setup, um, i definitely need a new sound card in my PC, hell, i don't even know what's in here. It was actually a free gift from a buddy of mine in Cali who works for a bank that just happened to be "throwing out" all their *yesterday* machines, so he opted to keep one and sent it to me for the cost of shipping. It's a P4 2 gig processor, with no video card and a generic soundcard. I would have invested more into it, but like I mentioned, I just spent 1200 bucks on a mac a couple days ago. So when I install bootcamp, hopefully i can make something of FL on it, too. And if anyone is curious about my setup, I have just updated my website with all that info.
  3. alright, it seemed to work. I just lowerd my buffer lenght to about 1700 samples (about 37ms) and it seems to work fine thanks for the input. now, stop arguing in my thread!!! (you're making the internet cry) lol btw, snapple. why haven't you submitted your Castlevania Belmont's Revenge mix here? That song (actually the entire OST) is awesome!
  4. garage band does not need drivers. windows does need drivers. I've got my imac and PC side-by-side i force them to play nice and share. by impossible to play, i meant that the latency was making it that way. perhaps some can do it, but i just couldn't play a tune in real time and hear it half a second later, and stay in tempo.
  5. thanks for the input bro. i'll give it a shot and let you know how it goes
  6. To use with my new imac, and also in FL Studio. I managed to get it to work in FL, but there is a horrible delay so that when I play, I don't hear what I'm playing until a good half second later or so. It makes it pretty impossible to play. Anyone have any good troubleshooting pointers/advice/input/etc.?
  7. This question probably would have done better in the "remixing" forum, but I'll throw in my two cents. I'm about to buy a mac (no tax weekend in TN this week!) and Garageband seems to be a pretty nifty program. Of course it can do things that other progs cant, and there are things that other programs do that GB cant, but it's definitely fine for remixing. I believe pixietricks uses it, and I'm certain there's been plenty of other remixes made with it. So yeah, to answer your question simply. GB is fine for remixing. As long as you put the effort into your work to meet/exceed the submission standards Hope this input helps.
  8. Dammit, wasn't fast enough for the 1st review... lol I dig the opening synth. Reminds me a little of Manheim Steamroller (sp?) throughout, with slightly groovier drums. I've always admired your use of the stereo spectrum. Nice mastering, overall. I'm also digging the transition to bells to harpsi around 1:32. That's probably my favorite part, I'd say. 2:55 is pretty awesome, as well. The power chords don't overpower, as lots of people tend to do when they toss an electric guitar (synth) in a song. Nice overall feel. Has a good, dramatic tone throughout. Great work, zircon!
  9. rofl... nice hey, that looks like a n64 cartridge on the grill
  10. woah, right there at 0:46, the synch gets off on your tuba/whatever. that should probably be fixed. also, like you said regarding volume and compression--this really is way way too loud at this point. rediculously, even. i like your ideas, don't get me wrong, but production is killing the piece at this point. i definitely like the actual pyramid segment. for some reason though, the arrangement isn't really clicking with me. have you considered leaving the marimba intro and instead of pursuing the circus-ish theme right away, going ahead and kicking off the actual pyramid theme right after 0:07? then you could play around with the other gbs tunes you want to bring in, and perhaps crossfade and have the song END with the happy-go-bouncy pipe-coin music. It just seems kind of awkward the way you've got it now. Anyway, fix the volume issues mainly for now, and I hope this input helps.
  11. I'm not sure I understand what you mean there, but I appreciate the compliment well, I've not played UT2004, so I googled it and took a listen. Pretty cool stuff. A little different stylistically than what I was shooting for... More electronic while mine is more of, well, club beat, of course. It was a cool style, with the fast and furious strings and orchestration. I think one weakness of the Redux mix was it's lack of accentuation for the most climatic (to me anyway) riff of the song. But it was enjoyable, at any rate. It reminds me a lot of some of the music from the Turok series. You'd probably enjoy the Port of Adia Drum Remix... something you might want to check out, if you haven't already. Anyway, sorry to disappoint in any way, but thanks for the input and compliments!
  12. very very nice. definitely lots of energy flowing from one note to the next. great mental imagery, and great variety in the arrangement. it never gets boring. lovely and engaging. great work!
  13. this is awesome. i'd like to know what you used to create this. interesting and captivating stuff from schnab... schbuna... shnulub... ahh, forget it. nice work, man.
  14. darke, this is beautiful! i'm not familiar with the source, but you've really captured mystery and enchangment in this 5 1/2 minute mp3. i can't really provide much of a specific review--it all blows my mind. some particulars i guess i liked most were the drums and that part with the chimes that are accented by the cymbal crashes starting around 3:22 or so. this is definitely going into my favorites folder. i look forward to your future work. -bgc
  15. geat work! i especially like the variety in the fills. I particularly dig the triplets. nice job!
  16. still took me here: http://medlem.spray.se/dasskost2000/
  17. this reminds me a LOT of madonna's "frozen", which i really like. i'm not going to nitpick anything in this one. it's a beautiful piece. definitely a pleasure to listen to indeed. production is well-executed. i enjoy the ambience. this could definitely be used in the credits of a major motion picture. awesome work. a highly recommended tune. great job, guys! (and gal)
  18. no dice, man. took me to some foreign page. try a different host, and i'll check it out.
  19. Heeeeyyyyy, finally got a chance to get online. Well, thanks for all the kind words, everybody. Larry, SirRus, DJP and all you other peeps, thanks for listening and thanks for the input. Made my day to see that this one got posted; I really wasn't quite sure it was ready to submit, but since I can't get online much lately, I went ahead and submitted it when I had the chance. A couple particular things I thought were funny; I originally didn't have a tempo change at the end, but I just felt that I needed to do something to 1) change it up just a little bit (ya know, to throw off the listener/catch ya by surprise) and 2) I just felt I needed to do something to make it just a wee bit longer as it otherwise would have been barely over 3:00 minutes. As far as all the comments on how the mix constantly changes tempo, I thought those were amusing, because as I see it, it really only changes tempo that once. Err, twice, I guess, if you count the slow-down right there at 0:28 or so. The song is 140bpm up until the big tempo change, and then I think I dropped it to like 110 or 115 and sped it up in increments of like 5bpm every 2 or so measures. I guess I was trying to make it a subtle and seemingly-constant build back to the original tempo; perhaps that's what everyone is referring to when they talk about all the tempo changes... who knows Anyway, thanks again for the input. I recently got a 2nd job, I'm trying to squeeze in a class or two while trying to get my wife through hers, so though my spare time is less and less lately, I'm hoping the boost in spare funds will mean sooner regular internet for me All my best to you listeners and you fellow mixers. BGC
  20. sorry you didn't like it. when i utilize FL Slayer, most of the time I'm not going for a "realistic guitar" sound, but rather, I think of it more as a distorted synth. but whatever. i guess you can't please everyone. thanks everyone else for the encouraging comments. i hope to be able to get back to remixing soon--marriage brings about a change in priorities take it easy, BGC
  21. what do you mean almost? i got up and shook what my momma gave me. no seriously, though. this one is as captivating as cerebral rose jam only in a different genre. i don't even know how to categorize this one. but i love the "dirty" fuzz-i-fied drums there at the end. the organ break is pretty fun as well. the bongos/congas are a great beat, as well. i like the cross-panned/stuttered/lead as well. this is highly enjoyable. recommended. nice work, Mr. Star. *EDIT* upon reading the judges decision per this remix, I've noticed that the judges seemed to disagree a bit on this particular remix. just my two cents, but this is an example of a song where i really didn't mind the repitition at all. it seems certain judges don't like that. i personally believe that some people don't mind getting down and rocking a groove for more than 3 or 4 minutes. As long as the groove kicks yo mamma's ass. It certainly did mine. Again, that's just my US $0.02
  22. chalk another one up to be enjoyed delightfully. wonderful. the horn is quite pleasant.
