  1. Dear OCRemix, Yesterday, I was looking for some nice oldschool OST's. I came across the soundtrack from the first Age of Empires, and the expansion titled Rise of Rome. Awesome stuff. So I checked if there were some nice Remixes on Youtube and elsewhere. But unfortunately, I couldn't find many good ones. That's why I started working on my own Remix today. As source, I took 'Song 6' (if anyone knows the actual name, please tell me): My Remix will not meet OCR's standards, but still I hope people will enjoy it anyway. The genre is kinda some sort of light Club/Disco/Dance, and it's quite happy too. Critics are very welcome, but please do understand I'm not aiming for it to be submitted to OCR. If this thread reminds people of the great OST AoE had, I'm already more than satisfied! Oh, and here's the Remix: http://tindeck.com/listen/lpyt Enjoy!
  2. So, this is a remix of the main theme from Luigi's Mansion. Not much to say about it, it is what it is. Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated. It's also just named "Weegee's Mansion" for right now because I can't think of anything better, so if you have a name you think fits let me know! UPDATE: Edited the mix a bit. A wee bit faster, and added parts of a song from Super Mario Land 2, "Pumpkin Zone," which is why I named it Weegee's Lanturn.
  3. this is a little project to see what I could do with different presets that I haven't tried to use, the sound scape still needs work (MOER youtube). but this is what I have so far, I want to get some suggestions on what I should maybe do. I have my own Ideas, but I'll hold them for now. thanks for listening. Click here to listen to the lost one.mp3
  4. Link to this WIP: http://ocrwip.fireslash.net/?fid=823 Be aware that this includes less than stellar samples and short bus tuba part that can't keep time to save it's life. Samples are Kontakt Silver for Sibelius 3, and I haven't figured out how to improve that without spending money I don't have. About this WIP: I'm trying to arrange/transcribe the ending theme from the original Metroid for my brass quintet, to be performed and recorded along with a couple other Metroid tunes in celebration of the release of Other M. The other pieces I'm working for that are the Brinstar, Original Theme, and Maridia tracks. This track is giving me a lot of trouble as the piece has lots of moving 16th lines that I was forced to break up in order to render them playable, trumpet embouchure fatigue is a real threat in the original registers, etc. Actual arrangement has never been my strong suit. Mostly what I tend to do put things in appropriate octaves, fill out chords, create a Wall Of Sound or two, and call it a day. Many times I find that this is all I really need. Case in point, my arrangement of the Tree of Mana (http://ocrwip.fireslash.net/?fid=824) theme from Legend of Mana. My group will be performing this on Sunday, so hopefully the recording will be good enough to be submitted to OCR. Anyway, suggestions as to improving the arrangement, counterpoint, etc of the Metroid Ending theme? Thanks!
  5. Click here to listen to majora004.mp3 I've visited OCR for quite a few years and used to be active on the forums under a different pseudonym, but I took a break from lots of things for a while. So I really wanted to come back and do a remix for the site and decided on the underrepresented Majora's Mask soundtrack for source material. Themes used: Song of Healing, Majora's Theme Its obviously not done and will go through many changes (along with writing the rest of it!), but what do you think so far? 8/2 Update: Due to life, I had to take a break from the mix for a little while, but I'm back! It's longer, better mixed, and a bit more complete. I still have to finish it and do a lot of mix/eq/etc work, but how's it coming along? Here's a theme breakdown thus far: 0:00-0:20: Song of Healing in reverse, repeated quickly. Adds more notes as it progresses. 0:20-0:23, 26-28, 30-33, 36-38: Majora's Theme, in its entirety, but rhythmically augmented and in different voices. 0:23-25, 28-30, 33-36: Song of Healing, pretty straightforward. 0:38-0:54: Song of Healing harmonies 0:54-1:10: Later part of Song of Healing, with harmonies added 1:12-1:58: Majora's Theme pretty much straight through. 1:42: Song of Healing interjection 1:58-2:12: Distorted Song of Healing repetitions (see intro) with underlying touches of the Majora feel 2:12-2:39: Majora's Theme, taking the chromatic dissonance in the melody and passing it through the harmonies 2:39-: Song of Healing
  6. 7. UPDATED! I started working on this arrangement of the 'Terra's Theme' from Final Fantasy VI maybe a week ago, and it has eventually turned into what it is now. It's name is 'Wandering on the Moon' for now because of the pads and synths that I used. Please give me any kind of criticism you can. Thanks:)
  8. Another attempt to familiarize myself with a program I've been using for half a decade. Source is Rainbow Road.I was kind of winging it when I was doing the mix. Usually when I try to do some type of house/techno mix I use unfit drums. I think this time I might have just lacked some percussion. Direct Link Source
  9. Just a little background, the Windmill song from Ocarina of Time is one of my favorite VG songs ever, so I thought I'd try and do it some justice with this. I'm labeling this a WIP since, I'm not 100% satisfied with the mastering persay but for the most part this is a finished song atm. Whaddya think? Close to being submittable? A remix/re-composition of the Windmill song from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Re-imagined in a dark and melancholy mood, the windmill is no longer a cheerful and enchanting place. In my version, Kakariko Village is no longer the place where young Link once lived as a boy. As a growing darkness has spread across the land, the people have fled their homes and all that is left are decaying ruins. I made some changes to the original composition of the song, including an intro, an interlude at about 1:35, some descending basslines and a couple other things. "Ruins of Kakariko" is an idea I had for a possible project, basically a dark version of the ZOoT soundtrack. All comments welcome! Thanks! Leave a comment or two on my soundcloud too if ya like. http://soundcloud.com/djcolletta/dj-colletta-haunted-windmill-ruins-of-kakariko
  10. here's a wip, i wanted to hear your opinion about it probably i wont finish it in some time cause the .fl file isn't with me right now and probably will take me some time to get it the end is not meant to be take too seriously since its just something i started enjoy, CnC please Click here to listen to project.mp3
  11. I'm working on a track for the Wild Arms project with Jade Lee Dragon and I finally have an intro. Unfortunately, the only really commonality between my song and the original is key, so I'm waiting to hear from Jade before I move forward. I guess I'm just looking for some feedback.. (link removed)
  12. Hello, this mix is tackling Song of Storms from Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I chose a more extreme style of metal which is I feel is pretty uncommon on the site. I haven't picked a title, but the track is mostly done. A few sections just needs some polish still. Tell me what you think :]
  13. Well me and (not in this community) Black MaGiiC were bored and messin around with some freestyles, so we made this song with sonic advance cover I had, with a pretty cheap radio shack mic that makes aLOT of noise and make your voice sound like crap, but hay in the end with mastering and EQing the Hell out the voice track, it really did not sound half bad xD. heres the A short sample, and no we have no plans of finishing this song, but we do have a summer project to make a mixtape and an album when i get my mic in the mail this or next week. (*Warning* ::explict terms, language) original:: And the short track we call Compton Lane (cause thats his house lane) *ps* yes im also ''Aires'' with the robot voice
  14. I started drawing this up a few weeks ago and quickly got discouraged. I was going for an epic orchestral arrangement of Red XIII and Seto's themes, but found that the the melodies dont readily lend themselves to this style of music. The harmonies and melodies are very static, so it's hard to create a feeling of growth and forward motion. I thought I would post this since I revisted it and still have some ideas with where I want to go with it. http://www.box.net/shared/ou1tkkjt2e
  15. This is going to be a combination of the "Encounter" from MGS and the main theme. I don't care about the "controversy" (nor do I want to discuss it in this thread) I was very disappointed that the main theme has been dropped from the MGS series after 3, and that the original encounter theme was never used after the original MGS. My original intention was to do a version of the main theme that would fit in well with 4, but now I think I'm just going to have fun with it and write the arrangement the way I want to. The final version will be more than twice this length. Thank you for your feedback. http://www.evanarnett.com/audio/downloads/mgs8-15.mp3
  16. Hi everyone, I work on this song : http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/341280 I try to make a trance, techno song, But, i find some part are not cool, but some part are great. I need your help, your advice to upgrate the song. But if you think that it's ok and it's a good song and this don't need any change, tell me too. Bak.R
  17. click here maaaannn. it's two complete tracks, combined for the flow. this is the start of a concept album about seasons and weather. these songs are about spring. I'm going to write about the weater during each season this year. Well, that's the idea, at least. the first is Spring Showers. I wrote it on piano. It has lots of arps. too many, probably. I don't like the sound of the lead instrument. It's also got radio samples. it gets kind of epic, I'd say. the second is Don't Go Outside. I wrote it on bass guitar. it's mostly bass, but also features spoken poetry, plus live shaker, hand claps, and chanting. I like this one a lot; it's my first attempt at 7/4 time. I have another idea for the album, which is for each song to have a different time signature from the last. So not all different times, but no time twice in a row. I'm gonna start a 5/4 track next. at the very end is just bits of what the next track will be, And We're Up to No Good. It was written on keyboard. anyway, let me know what you think? I don't like the sound of a lot of the instruments yet. I need to find better drums, and the bass still needs some tweaking. I like it a lot so far but I want to know if that's just my own bias, since I made it. I need to know if other people will like this when it's done. I want this album to be really good.

  19. I kinda vanished for a while, eh? Well, hell... Well, I'm working on a track from a game called RPG Maker XP [ Battle #2 ] I have no clue what to name it, but I have a slight clue as to what direction I want to go in... Here's the source, I guess. o.o [ I forget a certain someone liked to get onto me for this. ] V http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmBvPcevHs0 And here's my WIP. V http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKyr2jQgEhg [ Look up for new version. ] One thing I forgot to mention. I borrowed a theme from two other games, since they're all "three" RPGs. Can you guess? Any tips would be greatly appreciated...
  20. Source tune is "Welcome to Fyrestone" link is this: Newest version, v5 http://www.tindeck.com/listen/cxnr some stuff is messy n stuff because I've worked on this for a little bit and stuff ramble ramble critique is welcome etc Borderlands! Notes: I'm liking v5 so far much more than v4. Even v3 (first one i put up) was better than v4 =o
  21. I started this a little while ago but haven't managed to set time to finish it. I wanted to used a few sources for this, mostly containing something to do with forests in the title of the track. Would dig having some feedback Click here to download Leaves Of Hyrule.mp3
  22. http://www.spacecowmusic.com/Sekaiju.php (Track 5 is the best one ) I'm having problems getting the tracks loud enough, especially the last one which uses lots of low velocities. Everything aside from the drumset uses old sysex patches in FM8, which even on maxing out the master volume on all the instances results in the master fader hanging around at ~30% most of the time. I've found a few techniques for pushing the FM8 louder, such as using Unison or controlled Overdrive, but they kinda result in some inconsistent timbre changes for different instruments. I've already added more Gain via the faders, but my loudest tracks are at 0 already and I've heard frequently that adding gain past 0 is not good and should only be used as a last resort. I'm currently using +2 db on the master faders as that last resort . I could use some advice on the use of compression and such in this case. (The drumset is not an issue as Battery can go waaay louder). I don't really have much experience in compression technique aside from scrolling through presets, and I'm not really sure where to start aside from messing with random things on the interface.
  23. Okay, this is the first time I'm making some original music. I'm planning to create a little 10-track album, with different genres, but all connected to rock and metal. The idea of this album is based on Dante Alighieri's poem, Inferno, and each track correspond to a circle of Hell. I'm still working on it, and I have only finished the first one (Limbo) and the album intro, so this post will be updated as soon as I'll finish new songs. I'm looking for some feedback to help me if some things aren't quite good (I'm not a good musician at all) or just some comments about my tracks. Every track will have lyrics, so don't feel disturbed if it sounds kinda "empty" at the moment Intro Track 1 - Limbo (kind of gloomy rock)
  24. So, I got bored a while ago and have been working on this mellowish remix of the song Stickerbrush Symphony from DCK2. Thought I'd share with you guys and get some feedback on what could use some work and such. http://soundcloud.com/general-gilliam/dreamy-brambles
  25. I posted this remix in the past but that was in the understanding that it was going to be a all round Mario Medly, Now the song is purely focused on the Super Mario RPG Soundtrack and will remain that way untill it is finished- I hope no one minds this but I wanted to make it clear that this is now a single game focused song Now for the Remix - I spent ALOT of time working on the reverb so I'm hoping this shows. Also the velocity, but this I'm sure still needs work! I'm not sure if the bass should be an octave higher as well? PLEASE! I want HARD Critique, be honest, Yes I'm new to remixing with major software but I NEED to learn:tomatoface: Also suggestions for what melodies to add to it are MORE then welcome. After the "Lets Play Geno!" I plan to add a softer Piano solo of "Merry More" so suggetions for after would be great. If you take the time to listen, take the time to comment please. So far the songs that are included are - < Forest Maze < Let's Play Geno! < Mushroom KingdomNote that I am always after someone to collab with and if you think you COULD ADD SOMETHING SPECIAL to this song, please let me know, Comment below or PM me.
