  1. Just for the hell of it https://soundcloud.com/ryanreilly/demonic-baroque-2/comment-160623759
  2. I just recently bought a USB microphone and can finally FINALLY play all my instruments together! I plan on doing a bunch of similar songs from different games, and hope to submit at least one of them and try and get it on the site (I'm working on a Stickerbrush Symphony as well). Anyway, In this track I'm playing guitar, ukulele, ocarina, my bamboo flute (that I made myself!), high and low Irish penny whistles, as well as bodhran and a cheap bean-filled practice pad from when I was in the 6th grade hahaha. I'm probably adding a trashy sounding tambourine once I find one, or at least some shakers of some sort. I do plan on doing more arranging of course, and it will definitely sound more clean and more interesting once I can sit down, write some things out, practice, etc. But for now I'm just posting the very first recording just to throw out the instrumentation for some basic feedback/suggestions. I haven't done much with effects/mixing, since I'm just using audacity and really don't have a clue how to work most of the features. http://picosong.com/YxU4 -----my track http://youtu.be/5W_bFLwB0WY ----source
  3. Sauraen - Xenogears - 'Final Convergence' Remix https://soundcloud.com/sauraen/xenogears-final-convergence-2 [updated 2/20/2014] (Now that the mastering is better, the low-quality streaming version is also better, but please download for full quality) Since there's 22 songs referenced here, I might as well just post a link to the entire OST, and you can find all the songs there: Original Composer: Yasunori Mitsuda Primary songs remixed: Star of Tears, Small Two of Pieces Songs referenced: 0:00 - Aveh, Ancient Dance 0:25 - Star of Tears / Emotions [Overworld Theme] 1:25 - My Village is Number One (uilleann pipes) 1:29 - The Sky, The Clouds, and You [Chu Chu's Theme] (glockenspiel) 1:33 - Singing of the Gentle Wind (flute) 1:48 - Bonds of Sea and Fire / The Leftovers of the Dreams of the Strong (horn) 1:56 - Flight / Gathering Stars in the Night Sky (brass) 2:04 - Shattering Egg of Dreams (strings, low whistle) 2:34 - Small Two of Pieces (uilleann pipes shredding) 3:22 - Faraway Promise / Small Two of Pieces A Theme (glockenspiel) 3:43 - Back to Sleep V1/V2 (harp) 3:50 - The Wounded Shall Advance into the Light / Pray for the People's Joy 3:57 - In a Dark Sleep / Small Two of Pieces B Theme 4:13 - Lost... Broken Shards (flute, glockenspiel) 4:28 - The Treasure Which Cannot Be Stolen 4:58 - Wings (uilleann pipes) 5:02 - Ship of Regret and Sleep (glockenspiel) 5:06 - Dazil, City of Burning Sands There will probably be a few minor mixing/mastering edits before I want to submit it, but it's mostly done. Enjoy!
  4. Ok this was a last min remix made with the sole purpose of finally trying to mix vocals into my parody/remixes. Sadly I am with out vocal prowess(love that word) and needed someone who can freestyle over the track. Look at this track as built for the main attraction to be the person who is rapping with a little humor in the middle section so it's not too serious. The blips and chips are simply a reminder of the roots of the game. Seriously Im going to go back to this point, this is a vocal-centric( probably not gonna win me too many friends) and should be viewed in such a light. Original-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GK41pLUuP0 Remix- https://soundcloud.com/daniel-lesuer/ooooooggggewereh
  5. I have to thank Timaeus222 for giving me such critical feedback on my tracks. I am starting to look a little closer at smaller details which create the bigger picture. So here is Street Fighter II Theme I am working on. I am not sure what else it needs though. (Constructive Criticism Wanted) https://soundcloud.com/schematist/street-fighter-ii-vega-theme
  6. always wanted to do a more or less faithful mix of this. here we go! i don't have kontakt on my laptop (except the clav that works with k5 player), so this presents a solid challenge. squeezing the most out of my good ol soundfonts. looks like it might break the 5 minute mark. not sure where to take it @ 3:00+ yet, but i'm planning to get somewhat more interpretive after the first straight runthrough.
  7. Mad Sometimes electronic, aggressive, fast Can anyone guess the what the title is referencing? Question, I use Battery and sometimes I layer drum sounds by clicking on a cell and choosing "add sample" a few times. Sometimes, all the sounds don't play, especially when I try programming quick notes. I'm not sure why that is, does anyone know? Any tips on how to humanize the snare sound a bit? Thanks and enjoy (hopefully)
  8. Hello! This is a project I started awhile back, then took a break from - I'm keen on continuing it, but I thought I'd ask you friendly fellows here at OCremix for some critique and advice, first. Don't hold back, criticize every little thing ruthlessly! And thanks in advance ^^. https://www.dropbox.com/s/r64z0erb1rivqyh/Aaaha.mp3 There ya go. Hope you enjoy, and more importantly - hope you find things you don't enjoy so I can fix them!
  9. Writing for one of my band's new records. This one came out after I'd been up all night reading about the Ian Watkins trial. I inadvertently discovered the treble knob on my bass during the recording of this demo and it changed my world. Such gnarly tone from this Sandberg, wowie. https://soundcloud.com/tobosaurus/errata-woman-a-b Comments welcome! But it's still in demo phase. My guitarist apropos hasn't destroyed it yet, the dickhead
  10. Well then. Here's a thing what I did: http://tindeck.com/listen/gahg And one of the first youtube results for the source: The first night I was working on it, I got super excited and started to think it was really, really good. Then, as time passed, I started to like it less and less. So let's see whether I've just heard it too many times or it's legitimately bad (or good) [or whatever].
  11. Hey all, newbie on the forum. I've been remixing/arranging with a particular track that I found really catchy on Fire Emblem: Awakening, while messing with the Evolve Mutations sample a bit. This is what I have so far https://soundcloud.com/sasfalcon/fire-emblem-awakening-chaos (And the original song for reference) I'd love to know what you all think so far. I've been attempting to get the wind-down before the loop going, but it's proving difficult to do that without a sudden awkward drop in intensity. What would you guys think the best way to 'ease' into the loop would be from here? Thanks heaps!
  12. I'm from Brisbane and I'm in to composition. I study Music and Sound production at university. This is an 'early boss battle theme' I wrote yesterday - https://soundcloud.com/james-battams/challenge-accepted-boss-battle-theme You can find most of my other tracks on that soundcloud - http://www.soundcloud.com/james-battams I'm also in an electro-acoustic band called "Ümbra". You can find us here - http://www.soundcloud.com/umbraband
  13. I don't think this qualifies for OC but I started it this morning and thought some Borderlands 2 fans might get a kick out of it. I think there is some rule about remixing songs that are featured in a video game but aren't VG music. If anyone is aware of the particulars on this please post here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikCta6AF1Vs
  14. Here's something I did for WCRG this past year. I did it in roughly a few days and never really got to fix and do everything I wanted, but figured I would start working on it again and try to polish it and fix it up and possibly submit it to OCR for the heck of it. It was supposed to use Concrete Man's theme and some of Zero's themes from Megaman, but as you can see there wasn't much Concrete man used (i.e. pretty much none) . So I'm basically just going to fix it up and keep it using the various versions of Zero's themes from Megaman X2, X3, and X4. https://soundcloud.com/shrackattack/wcrg-sins-of-our-fathers Feel free to post any critique as I certainly wouldn't mind some extra ears for when I start working on it this week! The most painful things for me personally when I go back and listen to it are how grating and just annoying the string stacs/spics are at 0:53 so I need to tighten that up and fix it a bit. Also, the ending was a bit tagged on since I ran out of time . And yeah, just in general it's a bit mechanical with the orch stuff. Thanks for any critiques/advice! edit: and yes, I was referencing Metal Gear Solid with the arrangement style .
  15. This is a remix I did in 'collaboration' with Flexstyle for RwTS last year, and I've basically let it sit on the shelf since then. However, I've decided to pick it back up and start working on it again. To be fair, this was a collaboration almost exclusively in name only, as I was unable to really get a hold of Flexstyle during the duration of said competition. (Ideally I could get in contact with him again and actually turn this into a full-fledged collaboration. One can dream) Here's what I've got so far (at this point, the same as what was submitted for RwTS) So, tell me what you think, what I may need to focus on, what needs fixing (for example, I can't mix to save my life), etc. and I'll work from there. Thanks! EDIT: I should probably make note that the middle section is the most cringeworthy part of this in my opinion, and I plan on giving it a complete overhaul
  16. Hey all, I thought I'd share my most recent demo with you all . I originally compiled this for a local indie game studio. I have a new one in the works for GDC (when ever I can finally get down there that is) and I'll be sure to post that as well when complete. Let me know what you think, any improvements I could make for the next demo, and most of all, ENJOY THE SHOW! https://soundcloud.com/key-jay/2013vgmandfilmdemo
  17. I want to submit this to panel while it's still fresh in my mind, so let me know what you think about the arrangement and/or production! Endless Mind (Lost in Me).mp3 Lyrics are on the Soundcloud page. Thanks!
  18. I found an old piano arrangement of Utada Hikaru's Sanctuary I'd made about a year ago, and decided to re-orchestrate it a little in my usual style. Not entirely sure where I'm going to go from here on - it's looking like exploring a few more interesting references might be a cool idea - but I'm liking the more free feel I've been able to put into some of the rhythms by not quantising chords. In general I think it sounds a lot less mechanical, and those woodwinds in particular are sounding a lot warmer. I'm a little nervous as to the quality of the arrangement itself because of the very slow harmonic movement and alternation between just two chords.
  19. so i started this today...it's basically a long ass intro in Sabbath style, sorta. spent the whole evening getting the guitars right! i stole the rainfall idea from Noppz' old ZAMN mix because it made everything more sabbathy. working title 'Ozzy ate my Neighbors'. ;9 then again, it already looks like the main part will have nothing at all to do with the intro, lol.
  20. Here's a remix in progress of DKC2's Forest Interlude, which shouldn't need more introduction. https://soundcloud.com/ccricers/test/s-WNMKA Source: Any feedback is welcome!
  21. Hey everyone! This is a piece from a couple years back on this forum...man time flies! This is a bit of an updated WIP. It now includes live drums/vibraphone. It's still missing some horns and a horn solo... Production is !@#$%## #@$!@#%$ right now on the piece but it'll come along. Solo's were shortened as well. Hope you enjoy! https://soundcloud.com/wiesty/terras-theme-jazz
  22. First post, here- you can find my Remix here: Stone Palindrome V3 ( )My first foray into digital music production was a remix of the Stone Tower Temple theme in FL Studio- I picked something simple to learn with and the result was pretty good (or so I thought, at the time). I (unfortunately) submitted it here before realizing how much the song could have been improved and before asking for any real feedback or analysis. That was two years ago. Since then I've learned the program better and while most of what I know is still self-taught (I've never taken the time to look up tutorials or anything and I don't really have any good excuse as to why I haven't), I have improved. Unfortunately I'm at a point where, with the death of my poor laptop, I'm unable to produce- but that's not to say I can't look for feedback on the last rendition of my remix and hope I can improve it further in the future. "Stone Palindrome" is my effort to stylize the Stone Tower Temple theme with a bit of a darker, more powerful feel to it and give it some of my own personal spin. I'm not doing anything overly dramatic to it and have mostly stuck to the source material, but I have begun to add more variation to the melody itself in V3. Some self-critique here I will mention is that I do have some habits: -Firstly I am notoriously susceptible to overpowering the bass tracks in my songs, something that carried over from when I was composing music with only earbuds or terrible headsets to rely on (that was... horrible). I do not know how most of my tracks sound on actual speakers setups, nor how the base might distort or otherwise mess up the song as a result. -Additionally I am not very good with drums and tend to forget about them leading to a serious lack of variation- something I've been working on changing (This track is pretty minimalist regarding drums anyway) -Finally, I feel like all of my music could use some additional variation using filters/effects/what-have-you on repetitive parts of the melody and it's something I've been trying to learn- this also encompasses use of volume in general and I feel that I could improve greatly in this regard. Now.... About this track, specifically. -Upon completion and rendering the track I almost immediately regretted forgetting about the guitar piece that starts up 30 seconds in- I'd like to keep it in because it paces the song nicely, but it desperately needs variation as it pretty much just loops for a little while before the melody moves past it. -Orchestral instruments are unfortunately the basics that come with FL Studio, and for that reason I really don't like using them (though I've learned to make do) and would likely swap them out for something better given the opportunity. Everything else is Toxic Biohazard. -Specifically the guitar I may look into having my brother play them personally and have them actually recorded. primarily because it's the most notable part of the second half of the song and it falls into the "I-suck-at-making-things-not-too-repetetive/unvaried" category. -As a sort of addition to this, the background strings that fade in at 2:00 suck, and I'll definitely be making them more than just a single predictable note at each step of the progressing chord. Finally, I don't believe this track is OC-worthy for most of these reasons, but most of all that I don't think it varies the source material enough to qualify- I probably won't submit this unless convinced otherwise by how the track eventually ends up. However, I have been debating on using another Zelda track to compliment the Stone Tower Temple theme and making it a combined mix... I'll get more into that in the event that I'm actually able to start composing again. At any rate, apologies for being a bit too long winded, and thanks in advance for those who take the time to leave feedback. Majora's Mask is far too under-represented here so maybe I can help to change that.
  23. Hi everyone I love, love, love this track by the band Faunts (plays over the credits of the first Mass Effect), so working on putting it together... totally freaking out about the vocals, they are out of my range completely. Hooray! Be nice please this song already makes me emotional. https://soundcloud.com/tobosaurus/jane-im-half-dead-reporting
  24. Oops, my bad did not mean to post this here!
  25. Hey everyone!! Below you'll find the link to my re-orchestration of The Legend of Zelda's Song of Storms. I really like how it came out, and I wanted some insight from anyone on how I could improve at all. Source: Remix: https://soundcloud.com/kairi-sawler/symphony-of-storms It's definitely not done yet, I'm just hoping for a little advice on how to make it better! The first two melodic parts are the standard Song of Storms Melody everyone knows and loves, while the third is my own original composition, which I created to fit with the piece.
