relyanCe Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 starting mine today. Saw a cool monster while playing Tales of the Abyss, and gonna do that. It'll be awesome. Maybe... Quote
Brushfire Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 (psst I'm only joking)(air force is considerably more accomplished than what I've done here) What are talking about man, you have been amassing tarts. That is way more rad than what I do. Quote
The Phalanx Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 So, how's everyone doing at their pictures? Delayed. I've been having anatomyfail over the past week, and today my hands have cramped up something down-right-fierce. Quote
friendlyHunter Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 I haven't drawn for days, but last week I drew a ton of practice sketches. I got the anatomy down nicely (I thought that would be by far the hardest part!), but then I started having extreme posefail! Any tips? I'd say what I'm drawing, but we're kind of not allowed to... Quote
cobaltstarfire Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Are you having trouble with thinking of a pose, or getting a pose to look right? Quote
friendlyHunter Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Mainly drawing a pose that's badass enough... I try to make them full of action, but they end up looking static like these: http://www.saynotocrack.com/index.php/2007/05/12/invisible/ [Edit] So yeah, both =p Quote
cobaltstarfire Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 I normally scribble a lot to get what few good poses I have managed to draw. The one you did last contest had a lot of movement though! Try playing the game your creature is in might help you think of poses, or read an action filled comic (or watch an action filled animation?) If you do this make sure you watch or read something new, because it'll probably help get your brain thinking better than something you're familiar with. I dunno how other people do it but I rely a lot on retracing/refining what I've drawn for real media, or heavy layer use in digital. (sometimes I do both). For digital art I'll draw whatever pose idea I have first without a ton of regard for how right it looks, just to get it down somewhere. Then isolate whatever bits look right, and make a new layer to do some redlining and draw the basic skeleton out. Then I clean it up and see if it looks better (repeat till you're satisfied). Sometimes I end up having to redraw whole areas over and over again, but normally bit by bit it comes together. It's also really good drawing practice. Maybe this won't work for you, but I know that it makes a pretty big difference in the quality of art when I do this and when I don't. So you could try it I guess, it's not as time intensive as it sounds either (knowing most of us are pretty strapped for time). Quote
bonzai! Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 hahahaha, friendlyHunter I do not think the poses I've seen from you have been static lolcats! I have issues with making things dynamic too. I do the same thing as cobaltstarfire, lots of loose scribbling at first to get the right feel down, then just working up from there. And animation can give you AWESOME references/inspiration for movement and action. ONE MORE WEEK GUYS! Quote
Chiral Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 ONE MORE WEEK GUYS! I just found out I some relatives are in town, eating up this whole weekend... I'm boned. :/ Quote
Brushfire Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Well if no one else enters, that makes me winner by default right? I can think of no title greater. Quote
cobaltstarfire Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 At least two people have already submitted an entry. Quote
Brushfire Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Curses, foiled again. Maybe when I control the Water Works and the Electric Company you will change your tune. MUAHAHAHAHA, you will rue the day!! /twistmustache Quote
cobaltstarfire Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Would you like some grapes in the meantime? Quote
Brushfire Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Are they the "of Wrath" kind? Yes. Yes I would... Quote
friendlyHunter Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Bad news: I'm stuck in jail, and won't have any more internet access until I pay $50. hahahaha, friendlyHunter I do not think the poses I've seen from you have been static lolcats! Yeah, well ...the creature I'm drawing this time has no clothes, hair, or wicked thighs to create the illusion of movement. (Actually its thighs are pretty wicked, but that's besides the point.) Aha, I know: drool!! And dust! At last, I will depict a movement so big you'll be able to smell it! Wait, uhh... Anyway, I was considering motion blur too, but that's just too much work >< In any case, I always end up drawing/refining parts of a picture over and over again, and this time I'll likely do that more than ever =) Thanks! Quote
cobaltstarfire Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 The blur tool works really well for motion blur if you make the brush REALLY BIG and sweep over whatever areas you want to look motion blury in one stroke. I forgot if you have to make the blur effect high or low for it to work though. Quote
Nyuura Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Ummm... I caught a debilitating disease so now I gotta play catch-up with school and work. I doubt I'll be submitting something, but if I do, it'll be another 15-minute MS Paint doodle. Haha. Quote

Nyuura Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Dude, if you tell me you did that witch in 15 minutes I will murder myself. That picture was epic. 30-ish minutes actually, I believe. A lot of time and effort got wasted on trying to make it cleaner from the initial coloring attempt. Quote
Otakatt Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 I can't draw creatures. Nor do I have time to really dedicate myself to anything serious.. still. I did a crappy quickie and submitted it. Better than nothing. Quote
Wolt Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Eh, just as I expected... Creatures are hard to draw, but I managed to make something. Quote
Ninja-san Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Uhhh no sculpture from me this time.... Gravity with ikea furniture is evil But i will get something done! Quote
Sindra Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Wow, I just realized how random having Tuesday as a deadline is. I was so used to it being the last Sunday of each month. Quote
