TimODMO
The rapper Wiz Khalifa has put out a mixtape titled Kush and Orange Juice. He put a song on the mixtape that is clearly sampling a Chrono Trigger song, I was just curious if anyone knew the song he is sampling... zircon
That would be Schala's theme. Nice beat, but too bad there isn't any credit to CT.
TSori
Now, if only the other tracks on the album sampled ice cap zone and terra...
Gario
Sounds like a song about Schala and Chrono, to me. Hilarious find, there - always nice to know some rappers are oldskool videogame nerds... I doubt they'd dare give credit to a video game for the music (that would certainly take down their 'pimpin' status in life more than a hair...). Salluz
Could've at least gave Uematsu, Matsueda and Mitsuda credit for what they did.
RedTigrr
Lyrically not all that great, but I do like the nod to CT.
Velocifero
Lyrically not all that great, but I do like the nod to CT. Or lack thereof. If was truly a fan, he would have (or should have) give credit where it's due. Lame.
Radiowar
the beat is so good, but he used it wrong lol. aesop rock woulda tore it up
Arcana
This song is nothing more than rapping on top of a slightly redone Schala loop. The rapping's solid though, this guy definitely knows what he's doing. If you do something else like this with more rearrangement, I can envision it being an easy pass. VCR Channel
Sampling has been a part of hip-hop in some form or another basically since the birth of the music. Rappers will not usually address the specific sample used in the beat, regardless of the genre of the original sample or where it came from. Often, the sample will be recognizable to begin with (in this case). Otherwise, it's obscure, which may present a challenge for the crate diggers to find the original and listen for the chops. It's all part of the experience. That being said, the chops in this song are not really so creative or interesting, though it is cool to hear the Chrono Trigger sample. Salluz
True, very true, it's a method of "making it hip hop", but heh, pimpin on Schala's Theme? Me nah tink so. I mean, transposition and addition of a beat is cool, but I guess giving credit is essential.. Not to go on or anything.
