OceansAndrew
I think you need to be more specific on what you are looking for in the sound. Basically you take a really good guitarist and a really amazing singer and you record them and a band. I can be more specific, but you need to ask specific questions. PriZm
the song is amazing but the snare still sounds incredibly wimpy

PriZm
there is another song out on youtube for symphony x's new album. End of Innocence
ambinate
i had no idea they had a new album coming out. this sounds great, though. paradise lost had a heavier edge to it and it seems like they're developing that sound, which is really cool. michael romeo is a fucking champ. The Phalanx
I saw them live a few years back. Goddamn they are a bunch of BEASTS on stage, especially Russell who just oozes charisma. Highly recommend catching them if they're in your neck of the woods.
AngelCityOutlaw
Now here is an awesome thread. Symphony X really has taken a much darker direction. So far, it's sounds heavier and darker than Paradise Lost. The thing I always love about Mike's riffs, is they have the prog-metal complexity but still sound very musical. Love how he often throws in a sort of....."middle eastern" feel. Plus, his tone is killer. Dehumanized overall sounds really great. Most 6-7 minute songs tend to just get boring but this song holds my interest throughout and I've been listening to it every day since it was posted by NuclearBlast. It's catchy and sweet shredding Jesus........that solo. The lead playing in this song is insane. I shall surrender my money to this album at once on June 17th. Fishy
Yeah that is an odd snare sound choice. Not awful, just odd. Otherwise tight stuff from pork-features. EDIT: Oh wow, he plays capirson guitars - didn't even notice. Those things are hilarious.
Tensei
On a scale from St. Anger to 10, what would you rate this snare sound. flame... nekofrog?hahahahahahaha Speaking of this + St. Anger, I did troll nekofrog once by putting the St. Anger blastbeat in one of his songs. WillRock
pig disgusting michael romeo successful troll is successful. Good stuff, snare seems fine to me, typical WALL OF SOUND metal production and some nice chops from romeo
Fishy
On a scale from St. Anger to 10, what would you rate this snare sound. I'm not sure I can do this accurately, as the St. Anger snare deserves it's own forbidden imaginary section on the number scale. Its the square route of -1. Chernabogue
Track sounds good so far. Maybe I'll take a listen to that when it'll be released. June 17th? Same day that new Rhapsody of Fire and one day after my birthday? Sounds good too.

I am not familiar with St Anger, but personally the worst snare sound I heard is from Symphony X's album The Odyssey

Fishy
Ya srsly, that ring is obnoxious beyond belief. St. Anger wins by far.

Fishy
No point, they're just bonkers. The Eklundh signature in particular is just plain silly. In a good way.
Sixto
Oh wow, he plays capirson guitars - didn't even notice. Those things are hilarious. Ugliest headstock and inlay design I have ever seen. Edit: I like the sound of the snare, just probably wouldn't have chosen it for this kind of music. Transients are too soft sounding. Needs more stick crack.
