Ginnsu
Ghouls'n Ghosts 'Psycho Underpants' There are many things that can be said for djpretzel’s excellent pieces of music, stunning sounds, and brilliant experimentation. But does anybody stop to look at these song names? I know we get a lot of really weird ones around here, but I think that djpretzel’s are by far the most consistently crazy. Sorry, I just had to take a break from discussing music, because djpretzel’s stuff kick’s so much ass that there is no need to say much more then just that. djpretzel’s stuff kicks ass. And you’re very welcome.
NSR::Neko
This remix bloody owns. I suppose that's a good way to start. If you don't have this mix, get it now, and you will NOT regret it. The programming, and amount of sounds tossed in here is just bloody amazing. The drums are tight, and the bass is slick. VERY slick. But the lead is where it shows off the most. It's almost like an old gameboy-styled saw wave, with DSP wrung through it like water on a facecloth. Truly great stuff. It's definately the best I'll probably EVER hear from DJP, and it's the only remix on this site that's better than "ElasticNewYear". And no, I won't stop with the talk about "ElasticNewYear", beacause it rocks almost equally. ^^ GET IT NOW.
WhalePorn
DJPretzel scores big points for capturing one of my all time favorate original themes. Its not as flashy as some of the trance style remixes that pop up, but the rock theme almost captures the feel of the game almost better then the games music does. Perhaps its because of many fond memories of 'Busting a crossbow cap in someones ass' or 'dagger rampage' or 'bronze armor related fatal injuries to the bosses head'. If your a fan of the game you can do no wrong picking this one up. The more I think about it, isn't that the idea behind this site? tistou
hello, i just made a remix (my first videogame remix) of Ghouls'N Ghosts, the same main theme than the one djpretzel remixed. The only problem is that I discovered djpretzel's ghouls'N ghosts remix after I finished mine ... and i just my eye to cry because that remix really kick ass ! It's so professional that i really hope all remixes are not so great because it's not encouraging for a newbye like me to hear all the work and talent behind that topnotch remix. if they release one day a ghouls'n ghosts movie , i hope they will first get inspired by your song and better, they use it and put in image that amazing atmosphere you recreated (it reminds me the atmosphere of some of the best zombies movies > dario argento soundtrack : goblins music !! ) I'm now taking that remix as a "reference" to reach for my future mixes. as you can see with my Ghouls'N ghost remix that you can download here : http://www.chez.com/nextz/remix.htm I've lotsa work to progress. Anyway it's my first remix Djpretzel, i need to improve my english to find the right words to describe what you rules but it's a fact. Polo
I first heard Psycho Underpants in this Newgrounds game and have loved it ever since. From the slimy bass mimicking zombie guts to the Halloween organ and warbly synth lead, this brings the brooding source to a level of arcade adrenaline rushes. It's an excellent track to djp to; just listen to the chorus notes bouncing back and forth, high and low. Love the percussion during the breakdown. I don't know where djp gets his wild synth lead interpretations, but they work wonders at 1:55, preparing me for another zombie slugfest at 2:24. And the ending... whew. I'm still in the graveyard, but I'm feeling the wind cool my face as distant chimes relax my soul.
OceansAndrew
Awesome and creative synth sounds, this mix features some great beats and a frantic synth rhythm. It does have a pretty strong "halloween" vibe, which fits the ghouls and ghosts feeling perfectly. Especially nice is the organ solo, and afterwards is a spooky sounding, not-quite-on-time piano, adding to the mood. Very well done, and highly recommended. Martin Penwald
Yes, definitely psycho. The sounds used in this remix are weird, but interesting. The kind-of breakdown starting at 1:21 could have been a little slower, a little more chilled in my opinion, while the second faster part, which leads to almost the end, should have been a little harder and faster. It's basically the same as the first time it's around, and that's a shame, because the sounds have much potential for a completely ridiculous crescendo to a mindblasting climax. Nice outro, btw. HoboKa
Dude, this song is the cooler than cool. Even Trogdor the Burninator would have to agree with me !
Liontamer
zircon just passed this to me in the judges chat: Yeah, some flubs, sure, but great energy and a pretty solid display of drumming. Cool stuff, Nihoggr, and a unique tribute to the mix.
DragonAvenger
Great song that still holds up after these years. Wonderful name, as well. I found the organ to be my favorite instrument/part overall, but everything sounds really good. The sudden transition to the slow section/ending was a tad strange, though it worked well as an ending. The transition itself was maybe a little too sudden. Aside from that, really good.
Bahamut
This is one of my favorite djp mixes from back then, so it's a bit surprising to only see 9 reviews of it. Love the pacing though, creepiness & a frantic pace fit perfectly when it comes to the original area the song is used.
ella guro
This theme was the only thing I liked about Super Ghouls and Ghosts. That game was beyond impossible. I've had this mix since way back when. The screaming lead is really cool and there are some great filtering fx on the drums. I wish there was a bit more going on arrangement-wise when the main part of the melody is playing, but I think the b-section with the organ and keyboard is great and the sudden turn towards the somber at the end is probably my favorite part of the mix (I especially love that weird conveyor belt sound in the background). It's not a mindblowing opus, but it's a fun mix anyway and worth a listen like most of djp's earlier mixes.
