Genso Suikoden Album - Gauging Interest

Hello all!

I have an album idea for the Genso Suikoden series. I'm not sure how to go about this but I do know there are alot of songs spanning the main series (Suikoden I through V). Here are links to a list of the songs from each games OST. Quality wise I'd like something, say, Ectogemia or Phonetic Hero would normally make.

Here is a primary link.

Genso Suikoden II Original Sound Track Vol. 1

Genso Suikoden II Original Sound Track Vol. 2

Genso Suikoden III Original Soundtrack

Genso Suikoden IV Original Soundtrack

Genso Suikoden V Original Soundtrack

These links may not work at the moment.

I'd like to use this thread to gauge interest in this potential project. Personally I have zero experience in organizing these things and would like some advice from some established project directors / assistant directors. Thanks for reading all this :)

So something like Maverick Rising?

Bump....

So no advice / interest?

Noone wants to be one of the 108 Remixers Of Destiny?

Naw, I'd be on it easily. I think you should just focus on one game at a time.

Maverick Rising worked because most of us grew up with some sort of Mega Man X. As well, MMX has consistently memorable songs. Also there was the GMRB 2010 around that time to stir some memories.

Suikoden isn't as famous, and doesn't have comparable songs in quality.

NovaReaper hit the nail on the head. I could do a song from Suikoden 1, that seems like the logical place to start if you really want to make an album. It's a long commitment and it will get exposure for about a week or two when it comes out, but you'd have something awesome to listen to forever. Weigh the pros and cons and make sure you have the dedication to pull it off, maybe get a co-director or some other help. :-)

Mega-huge projects are better left to the experienced directors, and even then, i'd personally argue that even half of those projects would have been better if way smaller. Personally, unless I absolutely cannot avoid it, I will not direct anything over 1 disc.

With 5 Suikodens, there are literally hundreds of source tracks, which is basically insane. I recommend going 1 at a time, and build momentum as you go. Some projects start out way too ambitious and either take 7+ years and counting, or just straight up die. Even with just one Suikoden game at a time, you are looking at a few years of production. I think the sound tracks are incredible and I'd love to hear a Suikoden album, but you will need to get your expectations in line. :-)

This!

If you don't have connections within the community you are going to have to work at least 4x as hard. Just be aware of what you are getting into. Be prepared to be extremely diligent and organized for at least 2 years. If you feel you can do all of this have at it. I would highly recommend limiting the initial scope. If for some reason the project blows up and gets a crazy response then maybe more discs can be added?

^This. Having small albums reduces the workload on directors, contributors and evaluators, while allowing better turnover and recovery for project jugglers.

^This pretty much. Especially since a Suikoden album has already been attempted this year, but never quite took off.

There really should be a "Is this your first project? Here's what you should know" sticky in the Recruit & Collab forum. ;)

I believe that "Is this your first project" stuff is already in the Project Guidelines

Hey all,

Thanks for the advise. I was speaking to Brandon yesterday and he was pointing me in the right directions. I have Level99's guidelines now and know where to start a project / recruit people and what is ultimately expected. I'm still trying to figure out if I can even be a director... In the least I'm gathering information together (Like song lists and links to the original sources). I'll do more on Sunday. I'll just start with the first game if I decide to do it.

Thank you all for the advice!
