There, I caved and bought it.

Playing the campaign on brutal for the lulz and Multi-Building Select just fucks shit up. Who cares that all I can do is build marines and medics with the computer having hellions and siege tanks when I have 6+ rax running with no problem.

So far the missions are still a crapshoot (like I predicted), but I really enjoy the characters and the stuff around it. I like this game for the wrong reasons.

b-b-b-bullshit :< it's not just SC2 overheating those cards, it's shitty drivers by nVidia (seriously, fan issues have been constant over the last two years since they always clock their too far fans down to make them less noisy)

I don't have any overheating problems with my 9800 GT

Same here. Just getting started, myself.

That makes three. Can't wait to get back home from work and play more. Still on the fence about multiplayer, though. I never tried multiplayer with SCI, and odds are I'll stick my head in once or twice and nearly get it lopped off, but who knows.. I'll probably give it a go after I run the campaign once. Did the first few missions on normal, and quickly switched to hard, seeking a challenge. The escort mission, with the colonists, was way too easy - I was dissapointed when the end-level cinematic had millions of Zerg swarming the landing pad, when I held them off with a bunker and a handful of infantry. I really like the upgrade system they worked into the single player. It scratches that progression 'itch' that so many gamers crave for (and I'm no exception).

So, after all of my complaints about Battle.net, of course I ended up buying the game after all :-)

My computer is pretty much exactly on the minimum system requirements, but the game still looks pretty good and runs really well. The load times are annoying, but I guess it can't be helped.

Having a very good time with the campaign so far. I tried an online game in the practice league and got creamed, so I'm not sure I'm ready for online multiplayer. I was never very good at multiplayer in strategy games anyway. I'm probably gonna finish the campaign, and play some co-op matches vs AI with my RL friends, before I try again (if at all).

But hey, if anyone wants to add me: character name is Tinus, character code is 555. I'm in Europe.

I just got through Zeratul's missions. Managed to net me some 2264 kills before finally getting taken out. Of course, it was on Normal difficulty*, but still...

* I'm going through the campaign on Normal for the experience; I'll go through on Brutal after that for the challenge!

Man, you did better than i did... I got destroyed at about 1860...

The trick to the last zeratul mission is that the waves that come at you are determined by YOUR situation. So long as you have a single building up, the computer will generate ground units (mostly zerglings, which are the bread and butter of the kill count) along with some air units and a small amount of anti air. Abuse that by making a lot of void rays and carriers. However, once you lose all of your buildings and ground units, the computer generates nothing but anti air/ air units. By that point, the opposing wave will probably take you out.

I managed 2280 on hard with that in mind.

OK, account problem. And yes, I tried the Battle.Net help, it doesn't have anything on this issue.

I just created my battle.net account, and when I go into Starcraft 2, at the main menu screen, it asks me to sign in. I use the name I just created an account for. Only problem is that "Connect" is faded out, and only "Create Account" is available.

What the fuck is with this? I can't find anything on any other site that covers this.

First time I went through that, I was on Hard difficulty and just shy of 2600 kills. But I found something at the end of it - there are two areas on that map that can only be reached by air. So I'm going to try that strategy next time.

Did only a handful of people buy this game for the multiplayer? I don't see anyone from OCR on this game almost ever.

We're still playing the campaign, a lot of us. It's made of awesome. Multiplayer, I've only played a little bit so far... I've found that I suck in the beginning, but can do decently late game.

Also, Faster game speed is too fast for me. Most I can keep up with is Fast, though I still prefer Normal.

"In Utter Darkness" - 2737 kills, Hard difficulty. All air does NOT work. Eventually, you just get overwhelmed.

Kinda sucks that, in order to change your campaign build, you have to go through pretty much the entire campaign again. I understand the rationale, but still... I'd like the option of playing single missions with a customized build for that mission to figure out what works and what doesn't. That said, I've started going through the campaign on Brutal. I'm not sure if I'm daring enough or not to go through it without getting any upgrades at all.

I honestly don't think the last mission on Brutal will be possible without Psi Emitters...

Maybe I'm just really out of practice, but fuck me if Normal isn't kicking my ass most of the time. All those achievements like "get the optional objective(s)" just seem really hard to get.

I suppose once I got a feel for the game, it will go better. The old Starcraft I used to do Vs. Computer games with max bots with no trouble.

Basic campaign strategy seems to be spamming the hell out of whatever unit is unlocked for that mission, with a few support units to round out the edges. At least, that's getting me through most of the missions on Hard/Normal. The levels seem to be tailored somewhat to get the most out of that particular unit. Of course, I'm only about halfway through so far, so that could definitely change. And yeah, some of those optionals are pretty upsetting. I'll try for them a couple times, but I'm hardly one to get worked up over achievements, especially the first time through.

On Normal, I had little difficulty with the bonus objectives if I stuck with a single strategy: MARINES. I'm telling you, getting plenty of Marines and Medics and supplementing them with heavier units like Siege Tanks works very well. Marines are your bread-and-butter unit in the campaign. They're cheap and very effective when in larger groups. Just make sure you do a little micromanaging of their targets; focus down each enemy individually with the whole group and advance between shots so that more of them get into range with each shot. Works beautifully.

This focus on Marines is much less effective in Brutal, though!
