Update (8/12/10): Due to new developments, the point-of-no-return deadline is now set for the exact same day as the Final WAV deadline. If you miss December 1st, unless your track is really close to done, it will be either moved to bonus or moved off the project.

NiGHTs into dreams was released on July 5th, 1996. It is a game that means a lot to me, and has a fantastic soundtrack that I feel is in need of proper tribute. The 15th anniversary of the game’s release will be July 5th, 2011, and I can think of no better way to celebrate this than to organize and create a NiGHTs Arrangement project.

This project will have a roughly two-year time line, considering all the other projects going on and other people's commitments. There are no genre or style restrictions for how remixes should be done in this project, but the goal is to maintain the artistic uniqueness of the original game and its soundtrack. If you haven't heard the soundtrack before, please go give it a listen. I shouldn't link directly to the OST, though it can be found online, but if you're having trouble finding it, shoot me a PM and I'll point you in the right direction.

The rough deadlines are as follows:


December 1st, 2010 - Final Tracks in, rest is primarily administrative work.

1) In an effort to further encourage people to get their final tracks in as soon as possible, every remixer who gets their track in AND approved by me/project staff as final before the Final WIP date (December 1st, 2010) will get a free physical copy of the project when it's released. This doesn't mean you can turn it in at 11:59 PM on November 30th and just have it called final. I would recommend starting to submit "final" tracks around the beginning of November so that me and the rest of the staff have time to review and approve. It also gives time for revision if there are changes that need to be made. I really hope this encourages mixers to meet the deadlines for the final stretch.
2) Any submissions received after the final deadline will be deal with as they come. However, as soon as the final deadline has passed, the staff will focus on QUICKLY reassigning any unfinished tracks.

There should be AT LEAST roughly around 1 full CD worth of music, and I am willing to assist people in deciding on a song, style, or try to organize a collab with myself or someone else to get a song done. I am hopeful for up to 2 discs of material, but not being greedy. Also, if things get done early by some miracle, it may release earlier than the timeline suggests. I highly doubt this will happen, but it is a possibility.

So head on over to http://kngi.org/forum/index.php , register, and then send me a PM saying who you are/what your name on OCR is, and what you're doing for the project. I'll then add you to the NiGHTs private forum section.

Update: info on project hook.

"There's a melody found in many of the tracks in the NiGHTS Soundtrack. Since I'm no good with theory, I'll just reference the notes and give some examples of where you can find it. I think the progression is in any major chord, and goes 4-5-8, 4-5-1 (sometimes it's 4-5-8, 4-5-2). The first six melody notes in Message from Nightopia, it's present in Dreams Dreams ("In the night, dream delight"), it's in Growing Wings, the tail end of NiGHTS and Reala, and...well, you get the picture.

For all songs not already incorporating it, I would like you all to try to get that NiGHTS melody in there somewhere. If it's already in there, don't worry. If you can't figure out a way to get it in there no matter how hard you try, I'll accept that.

Oh, and you PERSONALLY can't claim a track until I hear a report from Ms. OA that you've gotten some sleep, taken a vacation, and cleared your plate a bit of other stuff.
