looking for the oldest PRC/ORC tunes of mine
Red Shadow replied to Nase's topic in General Discussion
haha well i did just find sgtrama on one of these p2p networks, sent him a message to see if he has other stuff saved that he isn't actively hosting. i'll let you know what comes of it! - Today
-
more like all of them so far. but alas, i already had almost all of them i think. doulifee's site wasn't nearly as popular as that one. and the thasauce site sadly doesn't have all the old entries from 2004+. so i think i can only hope for douli's old hard drive, or any other freak that mightve made a backup of those 20 year old tunes :D edit dammit bitcr12 and splunka were mixes i actually dont have and they are 404. FUCK MY LUCK

so far i'm looking to see what i can find on p2p networks does a track entitled "PC Speaker's Sorrow" sound familiar? it's attributed to skoshu and does sound a bit like something you'd have made! -

it was mostly "nasenmann" or sometimes "skoshu". the 3 tunes that still work on wayback machine are "psymon", "mushrooms on the rails", and "gathering of the ancient noses". all from PRC, and from remixcompetition.doulifee.com. there were 22 tunes from me on there. doulifee did send me a message back! he told me he'd be looking through some old hard drive from his attic. thanks douli! if you manage to dig anything else up shadow, i'd be delighted. i'm looking through early backups of the compo thasauce page on waybackmachine atm. maybe there's more from me. might be under the name "nase" by then, but that's the newer stuff. like 2008+ :P

Oh, nice, I don't know how I missed this project, but I love the idea! I just love creepy stuff (how creepy that sounds like! haha) Maybe a bit late, but I have a very rough WIP for a track that I think it'd fit this album pretty well. It's a dark/horror/creepy/whatever arrangement of the boss theme from Terranigma, highly inspired by that annoying boss, Bloody Mary. Terranigma's anniversary is in October too and I'd love to make a video with it once it's finnished, so the plan is just ideal. So far it's 100% MIDI but the structure has plenty of progress. I'm pretty confident with my arranging skills and ideas but everyone in the VGM scene seems to hate my mixing haha, so since this project seems not to be that nitpicky it'd probably be just fine. Still accepting help from performers or even in mixing/mastering if anyone is interested, tho. I can share the latest WIP as reference if that's needed.

*NO* Chrono Cross "Sailing Away from Home"
paradiddlesjosh replied to prophetik music's topic in Judges Decisions
@Liontamer Larry, it sounds like you feel that way about the drums because the parts have no transitional markings. No fills, nothing so much as a crash cymbal on beat 1 to mark the new segment like a capital letter marks the start of a new sentence. There's no connective tissue joining the segments together. We gave you more depth on this one during the NO SHOW, H36T. The biggest drawbacks of this track are that the back two-thirds are too repetitive, the vocals don't feel integrated enough into the arrangement, the drumkit on the back two-thirds has internal mix issues (hi-hats are way too loud and forward for the context) and isn't humanized, and the piece as a whole isn't interpretive enough by the standards. This track needs more H36T! NO (resubmit) -

The idea for this is to have an orchestrated intro, then going straight into EDM (I haven't really decided what genre?) section. Very rough, but the intro is more or less done. I just need better sound design for the actual synth bass and chords and then I should be good to flesh out the arrangement. Thinking about doing hybrid synth w/ staccato strings. Much better! About the arrangement, could you give the source? What I can say now. I really like the first half and the end after transition. About transition at 2'02-2'30, I find it sounds empty. Only the synthe and the bass drum before the rhythm really start. Even if I like the idea of a break before restart. I think it needs more development, by adding of some details. Maybe some minor rhythm variations, or adding of some note of high piano to remind other parts of the mix. You conclude by a fade-out, I’m not sure it’s appropriate for this kind of music. * About mixing, I can tell you what I feel, but I’m not familiarized with this kind of music. I think intro with synthe need humanisation. And also for other parts where this same synthe is in the foreground. At 2’35, I feel the snare is too a little too loud. Maybe it’s the same level as in the first half. But I feel this at this part. Good luck !

Pretty crunchy original dnb writing to start. Oh, bummer, at :57, it's the beginning of snippets of the source audio itself being used, then it's fully brought in on top of the beats from 1:29-2:14. It'll sound like I'm saying we dislike the track when it's a fun remix (proph means it's not an arrangement). We're called OverClocked ReMix (capital R, capital M) as more of a brand name that sounded cooler than "arrangements", so people interchangably call things "remixes" here when that's not what we're actually doing. I'm sorry to say in this case here though, Stavrin, we're *not* a traditional remixing site, we're an arrangement site, as in the source material is played back or performed on different instrumentation, not directly sampled and not just note-for-note. This falls outside of our Submission Standards, but it's still an enjoyable remix for sure! If you'd want to learn more about making VGM arrangements, join our Discord and/or use our Workshop forum resources. NO Override

*NO* Chrono Cross "Sailing Away from Home"
Liontamer replied to prophetik music's topic in Judges Decisions
The claps in the intro were wearing thin, so I'm glad they bowed out. JSABlixer's take in the NO Show chat was accurate for me; the first half was interesting, yet the second half didn't keep me hooked and ran out of steam. proph felt the sampled vocal integrations were solid, though they felt more stapled on top for me. The drums, which were solid samples, eventually felt like they were mostly on auto-pilot of just changing every few measures at cutoffs that just seem too squeaky clean; nothing feels organic/human about the part-writing, it's feel very gridded out, like OK a few bars of this, then change the entire patten a few bars later; I wish I could better articulate that, but I do hope you'll ask around about it. The second iteration of the melody could use more distinct variation or difference from the first besides the lead sound. The piece's overall tone doesn't distinctly stand apart from the original enough; it's not non-existent, but it's not enough. Right now, this is more about the additive part-writing, which isn't a comparatively distinct enough presentation from the original. There's definitely a place for an approach like this, as H36T has shown several times with other ReMixes; this needs more something/anything substantive/different. I'm open to whatever direction you might be willing to take this in, if interested. NO (resubmit) -

Decided to do something similar to the others, make a topic, and make it equal parts an "audition piece" and "a record of progress / WIPing" until the due date arrives. :D This is the source, as requested / suggested by DarkeSword: Also called = 'Cursed Earth'. INFLUENCES: Jungle DnB / Asian Phonk / Future Bass MAIN REFERENCES: FFXIV - "Earth, Wind and Water" (The Swallow's Compass Dungeon Theme) The Glitch Mob - "Palace of the Innocents" Zach Herer - "Wutai Mountain" The latter sources is where a lot of the instrument-conceptual-usage comes from, and the FFXIV one was all for the pacing and aesthetic. The DnB and percs run at 140, while the MIDI is half-time, to accentuate that "heavy, rhythmic" vibe. Leans on the use of A LOT of drums and percussive elements (incl: bonsho (Buddhist Temple Bells), Tibetan Singing Bowl, Taiko & Daiko, etc), A LOT of grounded Asian instruments (e.g. guzheng, kanun, ban'di, etc), and a mash-up of an organic vs. synthetic aesthetic...but in that whole...WuShu...Feng-Shui harmony. :P I'll post up my first pass WIP later on today when I've gotten more progress with it. Probably will spend about a week on it, and then spend a week on a [Bard] sub and see where that goes before June 30th. :) I am considering working on these with people, and for this I will see if JSABlixer and CosmicBartender wants in on it. ♥ Maybe ask Alex / Seveneyes as well, since this is kinda his cuppa. ** Forgot to mention the tempo is a little crazy, and IDK how I managed, but it's 12/8 (original), that I've managed to write some new material in 3/4 and 6/8, and the drumline is a slightly modified 4/4 fitted with some nudging so things sat together better.
