  1. Not sure, why I've never commented here before, been a huge fan of this track since its release on OCR. What a funky and energetic song! Honestly, it reminds me of Sir J's debut track, "Smooth As Honey". In a good way, of course (Is there a bad way, actually? lol) Anyway, this track proves once again how good Jorrith is as a musician - this is something I've never heard from him before in terms of the genre, yet it is absolutely polished track with some solid beats, funky guitarz, hot bass (that soloing at 2:57, omg), catchy vocals (Jesse, you rock!), and whatnot. I can't stop singing the chorus when/after listening to this tune ;P Thanks for an amazing work, guys P.S. Nice OutRun cameo, btw.

I might guess that it's to do more with the position of the mic, and whether you're using a pop shield (which tends to filter percussive noises), rather than something to do with your playing. I'm also new at production, but learning about humanisation has been one of the bigger revelations for me. I guess if you're playing something written using notation software via MIDI you won't have human-like differences in velocities or note-timing. What DAW are you using at the moment?

  3. Wow thank you so much for this positive feedback! Yeah, it is planned to be a much longer piece, at least four miutes but also six should be possible. Your comments motivate me, i will definitely work on this!

Ha! This is something I did quite a while ago, and when I was listening to it, I thought to myself, "Hmm, I think I noticed some similarities with the DW piece I've been working on;) I noticed the lack of discernible articulation as well...I wonder what my thought was on that, why my articulation was so faint, or if somehow I "produced" it out of the music...I don't know how/why I would have done that. The whole accompaniment was just a Roland keyboard MIDI interfaced with notation software (including the middle section), then recorded and played along with. I was, and still very much am, new to the arranging and production of music. I had a few years where I wasn't doing really anything musical at all, and now I'm getting back into it. I'm really enjoying trial and erroring my way through the using of digital audio software:) Thanks for the comment!

This is a very cool composition. Love the way its split into three movements - I see a pattern with the Dragon Quest arrangement! I particularly like the use of the male choir in the first and third parts. Do make sure you give them time to breathe a little though, or it might sound a little unnatural. I think the drums in the first section could be mixed up a little bit more, especially in the first section - there's not a lot of variation there. Your flute playing is probably better than mine, but I do think that especially in the faster first section it's worth making sure most notes closer to the beat (e.g. around 0:51). I'm not sure how much you're tonguing? (There are definitely some phrases which are introduced with an untongued note in the slower middle section, where it might be appropriate, but (in general) this can sound a little unfocused.) I'm not able to tell to what extent you've humanised the accompanying instrument in the middle section either, where everything should really have a little rubato. It seems that the note velocities all are quite similar (I may be wrong!), which comes off as a bit unnatural. Overall it's very impressive though!

  6. I love jazz-fusion, and so I've listened to this track 10 times in a few days. Every little thing is so well-done here, man... I just don't know what to say! It's too good. The section at 1:47 just totally blew my mind Also, gotta love the piano at 3:08 - that's a very nice way to end the song, haha.

  7. To be frank, I was almost expecting a sort of themes and variations approach, but I was not disappointed with a medley centered on Zelda's Lullaby. It's equal parts lovely, awesome, and grand, with touches of dread. I was impressed with how well you blended so many song, right on top of each other at times. It only slightly approached being cacophonous near the end climax, but kind of demonstrated the clash between good, evil, dark, etc etc. Now that I am out of useful things to say: it's great.

  8. Sup folks! I'll be joining Cris Velasco, Tom Salta, Kris Maddigan and Darren Korb on a panel at PAX East this Saturday. I've never been to a PAX East before but apparently there's a MAG-style jamspace there too, I might hop in with Drumultima if he can stand my crappy flute playing more than once per year Anyone else attending PAX East this year?

  9. Totally agree with this! The length of the buildup implies a much longer piece (if not six minutes, then at least three or four). Preliminarily, it might be nice to hear the bass a little more prominently in the first section, and to delay the introduction of the piano until later - it sounds like it belongs at the climax of a repetition of the main theme. Do keep going!

  10. Well, to be frank, my first criticism is that it is too dang short! The opening hooked me in like pre-battle banter and readily gave way for a brief yet intense rendition. There must be more! It feels like the start of a six minute song, which I would already be interested in sitting through, based on the fifty seconds I got. Please do continue this.
