    I've been playing on the SourceOP 2fort server a bit and I've had this happen. Didn't get drops for a while, and then suddenly got 8 at once the next time I played there.

    AFAIK, there are no commands for that. You'd have to download a mod to up the resolution, and even then you probably wouldn't be able to play on b.net.

    The thing about Monster Hunter is that you NEED to have people to play with or you're not going to get 100% out of the game. A compatible wifi dongle and Xlink Kai solves that problem, though. Oh, and if you're going to go with MH, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is the latest version.
