  1. Like a LOT of time. In the old days you pretty much needed to have a Doctorate in Sound Engineering (Dr. FLOOD would be a pretty funny idea). Beginners and intermediates can make some basic stuff ok, but it takes a lot more than that to craft some of this stuff. Some of us, like me, have enough to worry about in composing, arranging, mixing, mastering against so many other variables without needing to spend 12 hours building a Supersaw filter. I clearly exaggerate, but still. You bought those presets, might as well use 'em.
  2. Sounds ok, but what I've heard from Omnisphere can probably do this, $200 cheaper.
  3. I rather like the incredulous time frame - it allows me to be able to actually finish work on the ones I claimed to do. I way overshot my workload here - I think I'm on like 4 of the projects, but fan-based projects are always like this. IMO The timeframe works so much better as "we'll get there when we get there" as not everyone can be able to invest the time and energy at our age when life is beginning and the responsibilities are piling up. I think patience is the key here. Even if the clouds opened up and God himself remixed the remaining tracks to complete the many albums, it'd still probably take us that long to promote and release it properly - here and across our many affiliates and branches. So just be patient. That is the nature and structure of what we're trying to do here. I'll close whatever the hell I'm trying to say here by publically congratulating Rozovian and usabellchan for their patience on the SD3 project. How long has that been in the process? And its still going? What? You want me to help cover some of the unclaimed tracks? @^#*&@^#*&@^#*!!!!!
  4. Well, then you'll have to rip it. I would normally advise against it and just buy it, but you already looked around about everywhere (supposedly). I don't think you could support the original artists now for it at this point anyway (unless you buy their newest stuff, which I'd recommend because the talent is very clear here) so just do what you gotta do.
  5. Akoustic Piano and Elektrik something or other is on 4 too? That would be sincerely useful for me since I have struggled with decent piano samples since the beginning.
  6. Only 7 songs? Oh well, I totally dig the gimmick and your commitment to it. Its way too well-produced for a high school album though. Not my kinda music at all, but since you're wondering if you're REAL this time, congratulations. You pulled off an EP with some balls, skills and construction. Its definitely the real thing to me. 8.4/10
  7. It wasn't building up anyway, it was just empty. Additionally, reverb doesn't solve the problem of realism. You could take a shit and pass it off as a realistic string sample with a ton of reverb on it, but its just going to sound like you took a shit at the back of the cave.
  8. Wrong forum, but not off by too much. Ehhh... not digging it at first... You definitely improved on the source material (which I'm listening to and really isn't great to begin with). That orchestral stuff has a hint of something in it, but so overly fake and not very well produced that its hard to endear to it. Those snare drums stick out much more than they should. Too loud, too much snap and they overpower the strings. Then the guitar segues in... not very well. It is also too loud and sticks out too much for what you're going for there. I like the guitar itself, but once that lick opens the new section, one expects the whole soundscape to explode at 0:45 and it doesn't. I visualize music and once it comes in, I see a lot of empty space with a big, thick log where the guitar and bass and kick all are. Lots of nondescript thrash from there. Melody at 1:10 doesn't do much. You could definitely do so much more here. 2:19, however, is a different story. Now we're fucking talking. This is the shit you need coming much, much earlier in on top of your thrashing to keep people interested. I don't think the length is too much of an issue if you can move the stuff you do later earlier. You clearly have some melodic guitar skill and improvisation skill - you better make some damn good use of it from 0:51 on. Don't get lazy, get creative. Don't waste those strings either. They can sound pretty good in a thrash song. Its got some potential, but it needs some major mixing overhaul and some damn creative guitar work to make it really work. I'm not convinced you can't handle it with some good old fashioned elbow grease, so get to it and you will have something to be proud of.
  9. Should the list include titles that could conceivably be found?
  10. I've tried it both ways and starting out with mastering stuff on it already just doesn't work as well. It almost feels like you're "boxing in" your soundscape, if that makes any sense. Its stifling, especially if it turns out your mastering suite isn't that great to begin with. My suggestion (suggestion, not recommendation) is to write your track out, THEN go back and mix it, THEN go back and master it. The point is you're going to have to go back again sooner or later anyway and doing too much stuff at the same time can be wearisome and make it hard to finish the song. You could write the song first, wait a day and let your ears rest, go BACK and fix it from the drums and bass up, wait another day, go back again and see if it sounds like you want it to, fix until its ready, THEN go back and master it. Try it both ways and see which works best for you. I recommend writing the track first, because then at least you will have finished the music, you can always hire someone to mix and master it for you.
  11. Oh so YOU'RE canabalt huh? Well its great to see you! Your little game ruined my marriage! Have at thee, bumble butt! No really, I keep seeing this game around the intarwebs and its of some pleasure to see its a local boy. My anti-condolences to your success. Or congratulations or whatever.
  12. Boy, I wish I had a fraction of an idea of sound production. I'm sure I'd not only be creaming my pants but the pants of my neighbor as well for a deal like that.
  13. What are you apologizing for? You're just newb, thats all. I'm still largely newb myself. You do and you learn from it, hopefully. I know just saying "listen to more organ music" sounds repulsively annoying to someone who wants real advice on how to fix it, but what this does, by extreme and dedicated analysis, you will be able to pick up and what your sound does wrong. Music, even for professionals in a lot of cases, is trial and error, so you're not doing that much wrong right now that I can see, you're just at the starting point. Keeping listening, keep practicing, keep stressing, keep going. Thats how you learn. If you can, pick up whatever music seminars and classes at the local something or other too. You could even go so far as to hire a composer to help you learn how to do it right maybe, if you were so inclined.
  14. Those Sample CDs look interesting to me. Are they just WAV files of instruments in play or what are they?
  15. So how much does the magazine cost for an issue, then? I'm sure these things don't come cheap.
  16. The organ sample is pretty..... chunky? Thats the closest I can come to it. Its pretty muddy and not very clear. Additionally the song itself doesn't really go anywhere for a while. I like the middle and some of the stuff you do around 2:40, but I wouldn't be surprised if this got rejected outright. I didn't hate your rendition, btw, but in the grand scheme of things this is not how you do an organ version of something. Solo organ is pretty hard to do really well in the first place. Here's a really good example of solo organ. I think the sample you had sounds decent enough, but your mixing it needs a lot of work. Using this as an example may help you get a clearer organ sound and balance, plus what to do for the actual music (cascades and arpeggiations and so forth). Expect it will take time. All the good tracks usually do.
  17. Great idea, but it would mean nothing of cinematic value would ever be watchable ever again. Jessica Alba is overrated eye candy and nothing else.
  18. What, was Minka too busy doing a porn version of the game that she couldn't play Mai for the movie? Meteo Xavier demands an explanation for this bullshit.
  19. yeah I saw it. It really does look amazing, I just have no luck making velocities sound anywhere close to realistic or decent, plus I might have concerns that style of synthesis might isolate me into a style I can't do much with. I love the dream synth sound but you can only do so much of it at a time and sell it.

  20. I suppose the humanizer couldn't hurt, I just still haven't had any real luck trying to make it sound half decent.
  21. I'm going to be a first-time Komplete buyer, on Zircons and Circles' recommendations. I'm still just not in love with the samples, but I'm convinced it will finally just let me get to fucking work already. Do Kontakt's preset samples, the over 7,000 specified, have round robin or that alternative sampling thing I keep hearing and looking for or how can I do that?
  22. Don't spend $120 for Mega Man X3. That's ridiculous. Just get a ROM or just ignore the soundtrack and get an .SPC collection of the original soundtrack. I didn't know X3 on X Collections was the 32-bit version. I need to check this out pronto.
  23. FFIV completely changed me as a child. It was quite literally a religious experience.
  24. Well it took Myspace five times to load it, but no doubt this is a much more inspiring demo of Kontakt's stuff. If I can conceivably pull this off I'll be very satisfied for some time. Thanks again.
