  1. With the exception of the permunderated Secret of Evermore, or the incredible, soul-soaring EXILE trilogy by Spiderweb Software, I find it really difficult to associate WRPG characters as heroes, mostly because the irony of being myself in a game makes it hard to feel anything out of it. Heroism needs a strong story behind it to work. A strong story is one that is thought-out, linear at most (multi-directional at least), its own identity, its own unique conflicts, etc. etc. I feel like you only really get that through JRPG style narrative and conventions. Its kinda hard for me to elaborate further, WRPGs have never worked out for me at all. They're too bland and lacking in structure to keep me going.
  2. Dammit Oinky, i thought this was going to be barbershop quartet. As for the song itself, well I'll echo the others, it ain't great but I was expecting worse too. You clearly have some balls to try this and some skill to not make it suck entirely. What is the source on this>?
  3. Well the comic itself doesn't need to be hugely successful, just something decent that can help get your name out. You don't want your very best ideas to be published on a small scale. Because if you make it big and you need something incredible to pull out - guess what? You've already used it. Still, this idea intrigues me. I might try one myself. Its always worth a shot. Edit: Also, your idea isn't bad, but your pitch could use some work. The idea as written out is hard to convey how you would make a decent comic and story out of it. Flesh it out some. Don't give too much away, but give some more juicy details that challenge the reader to put the pieces together in their head and frustrate them to do so. Its a little hard to explain, but its not as hard as I write it out to be.
  4. Hmm..... does it count as a real live comic though? As in, if you write one and it actually gets published, does that count as a credit in your name and a resume thing so you can get work done later? For some reason, the word Vanity Publisher comes to mind.....
  5. Why would you do Rock or Jazz mixes to an Orchestral project? I guess technically Jazz might work since there are Jazz orchestras like Winton Marseillus, but is calle Metroid REORCHESTRATED because its largely orchestral at its core.
  6. Hey Jason, contact Paul Franzen at www.gamecola.net. That's where I review games and he does send his writers out to review games like yours. Its mostly silly stuff, but we do serious stuff for serious games too.
  7. This thread makes me want to watch "The Middle of the Film" in Monty Python's Meaning of Life and I can't figure out why.
  8. Disco Dan got married, thats swell! Who's the father?
  9. Are you getting a programming MACHINE or a sample pack? I don't understand what you're looking for. I also don't know how much money you actually have to spend, but if you're looking for quality drum samples, why not shoot a purchase to your boy Zircon's drum thing he did a while ago with Shael Riley? I forget the name of it, but it shouldn't be too hard to find out.
  10. I actually agree with this. That's a fair compromise and seems to work all the way around.
  11. Its more like obligations and opportunities popping in and out randomly like some sort of ungodly mutation of a hooker and a giant mushroom in your bathtub.
  12. I'm still planning to contribute something once I can get my major stuff out of the way. I thought I'd have most of it done by now, but such as life.
  13. Hey, did you do music for the weather channel, or who am I thinking of?

  14. News to me; I hadn't been following up on that. I want to be careful how I want to answer this. I'm really not trying to turn this topic into an argument over music competitions or dump on the Topic Creator, I just can't agree that a competition is necessary in this case. Unless I misinterpreted just how big of a project this game really is (and I wouldn't put it past us), this isn't SF HD Remix. If you want a high quality soundtrack that is awesome and balanced, you find ONE, at most TWO, high quality composers and PAY them to work for you. A competition does not work without a prize. The prize is NOT the job itself unless you get something out of it - and there are plenty of more streamlined ways to do work for java games and other fan-based projects along these lines. That's my whole issue. It just seems extraneous and unnecessary for what it is.
  15. Any time you have a project with a large number of very different, very self-propelled artists working on something of this level, you're going to get imbalance and quality and style issues - why complicate it further with a damn competition? I have nothing against competitions when thats the name of the game, but if it doesn't have to be a competition, it really shouldn't be. Who's going to spend the dozen of hours and possible $ it takes to get a good quality track that has a 90%+ chance of being ignored and useless for something that has doesn't even have a prize? And thats IF our big name remixers choose to stay out of it. If not, well, lets be honest, the competition is over before it begins then. I just don't see any reason we have to get up a lot of peoples' hopes and waste their time if the only prize is to get your track featured in an obscure browser game that few will even hear about. Its a pretentious idea. If you want to offer up some $$$ and some cool gear to the winner, than you got something - otherwise an obscure browser game is really not that much of a prize in all honesty. EDIT: My tone is meant to be logical, not angsty. Like I say, I have nothing against competitions, I just don't think its the best idea.
  16. Umm.... mastering music is an issue of quality, not size. A mastered MP3 version of a song is roughly the same size as an unmastered MP3 version of the same song, with much better sound quality.
  17. Quick question - are you going to provide music mastering services? That would definitely be a big plus and a great help for your endeavor here. If not, I can recommend someone who prices very well for good quality and balanced sound quality.
  18. I have some already-made stuff that I'm not doing anything with at the moment. I don't like your idea of a competition though - its really not fun for so many people to put in all the time and effort it goes into making music for mass-audience (and its a lot, I'll tell you what, more than most of us have to work with to get it to that quality) and then wait weeks and months for a fraction of a chance to be featured, and even a MAYBE for any other kind of compensation thereafter, since you're not sure if you actually want to pay for our work yet or not. I understand the importance of getting high quality work for your title, but we've seen this all before, and the people who usually win these competitions win ALL the competitions. If I were going to suggest something, I'd suggest holding it as an open forum project like our many arrangement projects. You post the track list, first come first serve and maybe limit it to a couple tracks per person, and then post a deadline for tracks to be completed. That seems to work here.
  19. Show me how you got Roland EM25 stuff to sound this good sometime. You tell me you don't master your tracks, but I know you're up to something.
  20. Dammit, Larry, I expected better than this from you. >
  21. Umm... it says I first made my account back in 2004. JesustheDarkLord got me started here way back then, but I haven't been posted really regularly since this year.
  22. every year you gain is another spanking you get - from the reaper!
