  1. I tried something, I dunno if it really works. Also, I modified it a bit around 1:30, and I think it was for the best, however it still feels rather empty. I think my bass may be a wee bit too loud, and well, there are other issues especially with transitions. Not as big a step from version 1 to version 2. But I have been working on this for 3 hours. I guess I'll repeat the same patter tomorrow, listen to the song all day long, try to see what's missing and make the necessary adjustments when I get home.
  2. DS, I'm aware it's rather empty, I wanna fill it up, but I'm a guy who's used to painting by the numbers and now I have a bunch of paintbrushes and I'm afraid of ending up with a square of brown. I have added something, I also modified a segment at 1:30 which was for the best, but overall, I think I'm in really uncharted territory. However, I hope you see its an improvement over my previous versions. I think I will hear this in my sleep:
  3. Hmm, I have a thread in WIP, but still, I like the visibility from this thread: I still need a better ending though...
  4. I decided to tweak the drums and instruments as originally planned. I did implement some things you suggested, and I used some ideas I got today. I also consulted a bunch of threads just for ideas. I have to say, without changing the actual composition I'm glad to see such an improvement. I hope y'all will see the same thing.
  5. Does it matter? I mean, Light is right there next to Megaman, it would have been better if the blue haired hero would have been alone, and maybe if he had asked if Roll had seen Light recently.
  6. Thanks to my usual levels of self doubt, I have to ask this, do you think there is something to do with this or is his an hopeless cause?
  7. Not bad, but I see the corner you painted yourself in at the end. Maybe it should flow in another song, something shorter but more powerful, like the Item Fanfare, that would come in slowly, gain strength, and at the end, go back to you original music and just play it with force... Now it seems to die out...
  8. Yeah, I work with patterns now, and well, you can loop things rather well, especially when it comes to drums. (I'm saying this as an amateur though, I still have a lot to learn.) Start with something simple. Don't start remixing. That was my first mistake. Try to make a song with something simple, like a children's song. The simplicity will mean that you'll learn the software without worrying about the other aspects of remixing. And use loops, it's a lot easier to synchronize things than with the piano roll. That was my second mistake. I jumped right into the piano roll without seeing the potential of multiple patterns that loop. Once you get a better idea of what you are doing, you can put the melody in piano roll, then use the playlist to combine your drum loops with the melody. Finally, MAKE LOTS OF VERSIONS. in your case, with the demo you can't really save, so you should basically just keep reworking the same song multiple times. Export the results in MP3s, and see the different results. FL studio is good, and there is a lot you can do with it, so just keep at it. You'll learn a lot by doing, something I realized this week, what with my 4 different songs using the same base material (only 1 that I actually like, and even then, it is in dire need of loving)
  9. My first reaction: whu? Ok, I'm gonna break it into steps and make sure I understood what you meant. Basically, this is gonna be in the order I was planning to work on it tonight, tomorrow and friday. First I wanna fix the drums. You seem to indicate that the samples I have would be okay if I tweaked them a bit. So I'll try adding some reverb, and maybe just create a Hi Hat loop to get in earlier in the song, Basically, I'll try to invest a lot of time trying to improve upon the drums I have now instead of trying to rewrite them. This seems like the better plan right? When you say add Bass, you mean in the EQ or add a bass the instrument (or maybe you want some fish...) Either way, I think I'll do both, yesterday it didn't sound so bad, but this morning I feel like it was too screechy, and I think an extra instrument won't hurt at all. My next step was instruments. I used strings because I was going for something else at first, but now I feel it could benefit from a brass instead of a string instrument. I might mix it up with a trumpet and a saxophone, if I can make them sound ok. The "piano" is gonna have to change. Since the melody I lifted from the original material for that instrument is only 6 notes, I feel it's a weak spot overall. I think the changes in speed were a good idea (I could be wrong) but it's only 6 notes. I don't know much about chords or backing notes however. I also agree on the simple thing, but again, the original material is extremely minimalist, and I was trying to get that feeling in. Originally I wanted to only use this: http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/snes/SuperMetroid-Plant_Boss.mid but I didn't find any good melody in it, so I decided to also take elements from this: http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/snes/smettour.mid By the way, this is the first time I get something that sounds so musical, any comments are welcomed, but please, use simple terms, I don't know a lot of this stuff, this is like my 7th attempt at remixing in the past 5 years and I,m sad to say it's my best attempt yet.
  10. Yeah, I'm so tired of Nintendo forcing me to buy games. I have a family to feed, and a car to fill up. They should only release games I am gonna enjoy since they shove them down my throat.
  11. Actually, I feel the vocalist is... well... pushing too much. A softer more melancholic voice would feel more appropriate. Right now, she is halfway between singing and a 5 year old throwing a tantrum. It kinda removes all emotions from the lyrics.
  12. I tried not to. As I am sure many here have.
  13. This was made for the Reserve Tank: VARIAtion album for Blind, and I realize it is far from perfect. Right now I'm considering changing the instruments around. Maybe replace the strings with some sort of trumpet/saxophone, and I feel there is something to... artificial about the drums, but I don't know what I could do about them. I also think the whole thing is too artificial sounding. Plus I really need a better ending.
  14. So, I've been listening to this in a loop today, and well, I was wondering about my instrument selection. I find the "strings" just don't sound right with this. I'm very much open to suggestions at this point. I've been thinking that I should grab jazzier instruments, maybe a trumpet or a saxophone. But I really don't know. I think at this point I no longer know what I can do. I also realize the drums sound very cheap, and too... perfect, so I think I'll play around with them tonight. I guess working with the samples included in FL might not be the best thing. (I also apologize for using this thread as a WIP... hmmm I think I'll go and post this in WIPs as well.)
  15. We still love people in Offtop. It's just more like a S&M relationship than romantic love.
  16. Tonight has been much more productive, I managed to make actual music. This does not fill me with shame tonight. It may not compare to some of the work here, but hey, I'm not quite as experienced as some of you. (FYI: I love the drums, they may be basic loops, but at least I can use them with the music and not be completely out of whack. It's actually cohesive, and well, not painful. It may be bare, but hey, tomorrow I might actually work on this instead of starting from scratch again.) It is missing an ending though...
  17. You should be flattered. I just feel like I'll be the odd man out no matter what I do. I won't be able to provide something that even feel remotely close to what you guys have as WIPs.
  18. Thank you for musically emasculating me. My will is stronger now, I WILL have something acceptable on this album. I shall not fail.
  19. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synthesia does not equal http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synesthesia Just wanted to make sure that was clear, because Sinewav's post seemed to bring the software up rather randomly.
  20. I don't know what it is about this project, but I want to do something for it. I tend to give up a lot easier usually. I will try a more methodical approach tonight, and hopefully, I'll have something brand new, and better sounding. But I think I may have screwed myself with the mini boss music, it's not a very melodic song. Tensai-San, I love what you did with that song, it is very Metallica-ish. It's a good interpretation on the original material.
  21. Please, take a couple of English classes. You make it hard to read your posts, and when we do decipher them, they are not worth the effort. Also, if it's a secret game, we would not know about. Also, the FF7 on PS3 was BS. The PS1 could show videos of that quality, it's all about them being an actual movie. That demo was simply a tech demo, and it was done to use the mindless FF7 fanbase and make them drone about how good the PS3 was gonna be.
  22. Interesting posts. Now, I have to ask, how do you bring what you see in your head out and make it happen when you work on a song? I was wondering if the perception of the music affected how you worked and how one's vision could hinder certain aspects of the music and facilitate others.
  23. It's a brand new experience, never before seen. In addition, here are he totally new things provided by Microsoft: 1: A new game staring a Plumber who faces a giant turtle to save a princess. 2: A wacky donkey and his friends who eat bananas and fight pirates. 4: A young hero, who is on a mission to assemble the Quadrastrenght and fight the evil Warthog Demon. 5: A young and daring adventurer in a Force Suit, who fights the evil Father Cerebral 6: and finally, a daring space pilot who fights a tyranical baboon, in the game Celestial Marmoset.
  24. None, not all synaesthesia is the same. In my case, colors are sounds and sounds are color. When someone turns on a turn signal, I see it, but I also hear a clear beep. If I close my eyes when I listen to music, it's like having one of these Winamp visualisation plugins.
