  1. In relation to what I was asking about, Shaolin can also be referred to as a Southern style, and is the grounding for a number of other traditional hard and soft arts (karate, aikido and shorinji kempo among them), whereas the Northern styles tended to focus more on what are commonly known as the animal styles.
  2. Ninjitsu really is centred around striking rapidly to vital parts of the body - the throat, the groin, the eyes and particularly along meridian lines. Now, I know that last bit sounds a bit mystical, but consider that the vital points along meridian lines have generally now been mapped to nerve clusters that, when triggered, can have adverse effects upon organs or muscle control. It's the understanding of the human body that gives most ninjitsu practitioners that fearsome skill. Incidentally, pretty much all serious arts are about balance, and how you can fuck someone else's up. Also, Flare4War, which Kung Fu were they talking about? Northern or Southern?
  3. It is real, it is effective and at the higher levels, it is scary. I trained in it for around six months when I was young, and I learnt more about practical self-defense in those six months than I did in the two years of karate prior. And I was doing ninjitsu long before I even knew what anime was. That said (and I'm wondering if this is the same thread ... looks like it) I'm still doing Shorinji Kempo. There are some pretty cool vids of it on youtube (and when watching them, I was amazed at just how awesome some of the exchanges look) and I would highly recommend it.
  4. Japanese folk, engaging in a bit of racism via consoles? Well I never! Consider also the army that is Sony's marketing team - and they've had considerably more experience than MS's marketing team.
  5. You have no idea how old that statement makes me feel.
  6. Jesus Christ ... when the hell do you find time to read them all? I only follow the Phantom, and I sometimes have trouble finding time to sit down and just read that.
  7. Yes, you are a terrible person. Go cut yourself. Yes it does.
  8. Sums it up nicely. (though at first I thought it was a memorial track for a person)
  9. The theme which bears a striking similarity to the opening mission theme. And yes, I know DS has already given us a nice mellow variant of this, but I'm looking for something more energetic. Any mixers wishing to try their hand with the electric guitar, please give this one consideration. Cheers,
  10. Preordered PC version. Yes, that means I wait a few extra months for it. It also means I can play it on my beast. We may just have a worthy contender for the title of Thief-Killer. No! Benny is awesome!
  11. No, I like my keyboard shortcuts in windows. a well-coded game would automatically disable it anyway.
  12. No, they are terrible. More than that, my fingers don't work properly on them. My fingers DEMAND large chunky keys to press, not these little tiny nodules that barely depress at all.
  13. Shit! I had to stop the Heavenly Sword vid so I could get my breath back after a laughing fit.
  14. Sigh. It saddens me that none appear to have mentioned the joyous hardness that is Thief 2. No cardboard box here, nosirree. Beating Soulforge Cathedral on Expert was one of the happiest days of my life.
  15. How in the fuck do you actually play those anyway?!
  16. Most definitely DX10 capable. Bioshock? I can run that baby at highest quality on 1680*1050. Crysis? Dunno, but I'm keen to find out! To Hyperion: Yes, DX10 is the way it'll be. Vista isn't an ME already, and for one simple reason: It's stable. Yes, it's stable. Sure, I can crash it, but damned if I don't have to set my mind to doing so.
  17. What DJP has mentioned is news to me - obviously, I haven't made enough use of my network! Because aside from that, I will say that Vista does not suck. I'll go so far as to say that it never actually sucked, but was instead unsuited to what you wanted it to do. I've got Vista Ultimate x64 on my machine, and I wouldn't even think of going back to XP now.
  18. J. C. Denton. Because I'm obviously a nanotechnologically augmented secret agent in the employ of a United Nations task force created ostensibly for the purpose of being able to combat global terrorism when in fact I'm merely a pawn for a power-mad cabal of technophiles who seek to use the augmentation architecture to turn themselves into living Universal Constructors that they might rule the world by becoming literal gods with the power to see build or do anything. And I fucking dare you to say that all in one go.
  19. CHRONO NIGGER! What? I played a hacked rom.
  20. No-one cares. Because 300 is fucking epic. You don't watch 300 for a history lesson.
  21. This track (the intro especially) gives me a raging boner. The sort that makes me want to take on the world and crush it like a paper cup. And then sodomise what's left. This. Is. EPIC.
  22. The last vestige of my own JapFaggotry - I give my computers the names of Japanese girls. None I personally know, as that would constitute stalking in my mind, which is just wrong. The exceptions are my linux box (which I call Vector) and my media box, which I very drably call Media.
  23. I would just like to contribute from PCPowerPlay, Australia's premier PC gaming mag: The first 10/10 I can remember them handing out - I don't think even Half-Life 2 got that. Also, Mr Bottle Rocket, Irrational Games made System Shock 2 with Looking Glass Studios, the folks who made the Thief series and from whom Ion Storm Austin arose (creators of Deus Ex) Also, my girlfriend has announced she will buy it for me. My life is awesome.
