Joined. I hope this leads to some intense matches. Hell, we could just start the [OCR] clan. Should I add my tags now, or do I need approval from the admin?

I still haven't played anything in Orange Box other than TF2. I played Engineer for 4 hours straight before I was willing to try another class. Now my favs are engy, medic, soldier, and sniper. There are a few maps that I don't really like, and I can't wait til they release some new ones. I'm not a fan of granary, which seems to be "the level where everyone plays scout and rushes the cap point." How does everyone else feel about the maps so far?

I think what everyone is saying by not saying it is that we are not ready to put advertisements on the profile pages, at least not yet. As for the left sidebar ads, would they harmfully disrupt the layout when there's only one or two posts on a page? If so, I'd rather go without them for the time being. The other stuff is probably a good idea for the longevity of OkRaMix.

Go buy The Orange Box at Circuit City or Fry's if you haven't yet. They're both selling it for about $40 this week after taxes, but I'm sure it'll be back to retail prices by Sunday. I haven't played anything other than Team Fortress 2. Not only that, but I played only as an Engineer for the first 4 or 5 hours straight. But after I break my addiction, I shall give Portal a try. And HL2.

A serious off-topic debate: Which delay is worse: Twilight Princess (twice, right?) vs. Super Smash Bros. Brawl I think I vote SSBB because of all the hype and the slow trickle of news. I think about SSBB at least twice a day now. With TP, I'd forget every once in a while how much I wished I could play it.

Oh my God, this is wonderful! I had given up home for Fire Emblem DS because it had been so long. I figured they would have done this years ago! I wonder what setting it will be in. I wonder if this be the beginning of a whole new story line, or will this be a continuation of a previous story, such as FE8, the Sacred Stones? P.S.: this post was written on my Wii via USB keyboard.

...But what if you're wrong? What if the ending changes each time based on which characters you have? What if the characters you pick up change every time based on who you started with? What if there are HUNDREDS of endings?!

OCR 'Must-Have Games' List: -Part TWO-
SirChadlyOC replied to sephfire's topic in General Discussion
Round Three: *** Conker’s Bad Fur Day - N64: YES This is probably the only adult game on N64, so that definitely adds to its value. Some of the multiplayer games were really good and pretty unique, such as capture the flag. The game is also really funny. Not my favorite game of all time, but worth owning for sure. Wave Race 64 - N64: NO Fun game and all, but it's not really any different from the 1080 series or many other similar "Race+Tricks" games. It's worth playing, but it doesn't have much replay value that demands a purchase, and it certainly doesn't offer any amazing new or unique gameplay. The Legend of Dragoon - PS1: YES(borderline) I've actually never gotten to the third disc, but I'm glad I own it. I found the battle system to be very fresh. It's kind of like the fighting in Super Mario RPG because timing of hiting the button affects damage. My main complaints are found in every PS1 RPG: long loading times that break up the flow of the game, etc. However, anyone who loves all of the best PS1 RPGs should own this game. Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken ("Blazing Sword") - GBA: YES This is, by far, my favorite video game series. Instead of listing all the reasons to own this game, I'm going to reason why someone might not like this game. There is a lot of dialog and story, so if reading bores you and you just want to kill enemies and blow stuff up, you'll hate this game. If you couldn't care less about the characters and personality of your troops, you'll be bored with the conversations and development, which is thorough and avoids cliches. If one of your characters die, they are gone for good. There's no extra lives, Life spells, or phoenix down. If you want them to live, you have to restart the level. Some people find this gameplay to be way too hard and frustrating, but I think it's what makes the game so perfectly good. If I could add only one game to the list of must-owns, It'd be Fire Emblem (7). -
OCR 'Must-Have Games' List: -Part TWO-
SirChadlyOC replied to sephfire's topic in General Discussion
Round Two - FIGHT!! Diddy Kong Racing N64 - No(borderline) In my life, I have noticed that there are (at least) two types of hardcore video game players. One of them is the kind who buys a few games and plays the crap out of all of them, despite numerous flaws, and finds all the secrets and unlocks all extras. The second type of player tries to experience every single great game, but then never or rarely plays the game again, even sometimes trading the game in. I believe that the reason for this list is to assist the second type of gamer who feels he or she may have missed some gems in the past. Those hardcore gamers who belong to the second category will not like Diddy Kong Racing. The game is very challenging if you let it grow on you, but most collector-type gamers will not see the point and will give up, because after all, Killer 7 and numerous other great games are still sitting on the shelf unplayed, and the gamer has to see how great they are too so they can check them off their mental list. I'm sorry for being long-winded in such an inappropriate venue, but Diddy Kong Racing is either loved or hated, and before spending time/money on it, decide what time of gamer your are beforehand. Advance Wars GBA - YES I think the first one is worth owning and the DS version is worth owning, but feel free to skip the second one, "Black Hole Rising," unless you love the others. This game does a very good job of introducing new, interesting challenges to the player without relying too much on the same general tactics to win, which is the hardest task for turn-based strategy games. -
I really thought that by now, I would be ale to collect Pepsi bottle caps or something similar to accumulate Wii points. 50 Wii points on each 20 oz soda? I'd buy a bunch of Pepsi for that. I think there's a huge market out there for someone to do that. Heck, I'd be excited if they did it for Xbox Live stuff too, even if I don't have a 360, just because I'd know similar stuff would happen with other brands and companies. I have heard that there's Web sites like GamingLagoon that give you Wii points for filling out surveys and signing up for other offers (followed by an immediate cancellation, of course), but it sure seems shady compared to just collecting products I already buy anyway. How about Wii points awarded in McDonald's Monopoly game? please?

If this does what I think it does, this could be a really neat idea, in theory. I'm guessing that the battle goes on in the background despite Resetti's rant, and the camera zooming makes me think that part of the screen may not be visible. What is visible is Resetti's rant, which is simply supposed to distract the players. I'm pretty sure I'll fall for it. Instead of watching my character or my enemies, I'll be reading the rant to see what he has to say. A very intriguing idea, indeed. It's like the Nintendogs assist trophy or the blooper's ink in Mario Kart DS, except I have the ability not to be distracted, but I'm distracted anyway. Neat.
-
Yeah, that sounds good in theory. But once they put it on DS, they'd have to do other things to convince people to buy it for $30, unless they sold it for even more like FFIII (God forbid). So then after tweaking, the result would be extra dungeons added at the end, an easier difficulty (), lag in some animations, and big cutscenes that take 10 seconds to load. Maybe some new spells and combos. Sounds great and all, but I'd rather spend 800 Wii points than $30+. Then again, portable Chrono Trigger ... mmm tasty. More than anything, I guess I'm afraid they'd mess it up too much.
-
Yes, please. No other cinematics or cutscenes necessary. And I'm not sure there's much more room for "bonus content" either. Just the original, untouched, 800 Wii points.

OCRA-0009 - Final Fantasy VII: Voices of the Lifestream
SirChadlyOC replied to zircon's topic in Album Reviews & Comments
Downloading the torrent now. It should be done in about 20 more hours. I'm not going to digg this until myself and other OCR community regulars have the opportunity to seed first. After being around OCR for several years, the massive project releases start to feel pretty similar to the big April Fool's Day jokes. Some of the praise for this work borders on ridiculousness. I'm sure it's good, but I'm not so sure this music is going to change my life to the extent that I name my firstborn "Voices Mainstream" or anything. Then of course there's other trolls ruining it for everyone. Just like April Fool's Day. "NE1 WHO THINKS THIS MUSIK IS GOOD IS STOOPID AND DOSENT NO GOOD MUSIK CHECK THE DATE MORONS" -
Happy birthdaaaaaaaaaaaaahh!!!

Some of the fad and favorite threads were really good. In fact, someone should make a thread that would allow us to debate which fad and favorite threads were the best. I VOTE THAT ONE NINTENDO THREAD ANYONE WHO DISAGREES IS WRONG!1!shift+one!

sgx and zircon TRIPLE threat CD deal - $15 = 3 albums
SirChadlyOC replied to zircon's topic in General Discussion
I bit and bought all three. Now I will probably buy Destiny's album as well... Support local biz-nitches! -
Boy, this thread is turning into an "Ask Men" article real fast. All this talk about checking and touching our Wiis... You have all convinced me that I should turn off the WiiConnect24 thing. It's not like anything really updates that often or anything.
-
This news should surprise nobody. I don't know anyone who doesn't say that their Wii is hot enough to cook eggs. I also find it funny that I've read two questions about hot Wiis and leaving them on in two different PULSE sections of Nintendo Power. Clearly, this problem is much bigger than Nintendo is willing to admit.
-
I've said it before in the Nintendo Wii thread, but I'll say it again: I think Nintendo re-releasing a Wavebird controller with a rumble pak would be awesomely successful. I'd buy one. I bet most people who have/had 4 GCN controllers broke one by now, and they can't buy wavebirds anymore. Either that, or they still have wired controllers, which are SOO last generation.
-
The Bigs does look pretty sweet, especially since I don't have a lot to choose from when it comes to baseball games on Nintendo consoles recently. It sounds like all the RPG elements will be pretty cool. Has anyone seen any good deals on that game? Circuit City has been selling a lot of the new releases for $10 off recently, but I haven't heard if they are doing it for this game.
-
I think Manhunt II could still sell because of the strength of online video-game retailers today. As little as three years ago, I wouldn't have bought a video game online. Heck, I didn't buy Electroplankton for DS two years ago. However, I think that the internet has progressed to the point now that online retailers could sell the game pretty successfully, especially because of the marketing potential of "OMG MOST GRAPHIC, VIOLENT GAME EVAR!!1!" I'd buy it, but I'm not expecting to see it on store shelves.
