  1. I love the melody in this. It doesn't stray from Rayza's usual sounds he uses, so if that's all you needed to know.... Standard Rayza wailing synth, techno rhythms, YAY PIANO rhythms, happiness, and a random pause in the middle with a bucket dropping that only Rayza will ever know its purpose. Basically it's an enhanced version of the original in a whole other style. Just to restate, I really like this melody and am glad it has been mixed for mine and everyone else's listening pleasure. This is the kind of stuff OC is about minus the variation of the original melody. I think there was one of those "arrangements" of the melody in there, maybe at the end. The original was in a stage called "Crystal World" and can be found on Zophar under the SNES section even though it says Sega on OC (I guess it was just done on the genesis first).
  2. Some kind of synthetic wave takes on the track of the repetitive rhythm that defines and distinguishes Schala's Theme from others, while occasionally a piano does as well. It's kind of loud placed, causing some crackly distortion in a couple sectioned seconds. The underlying drum kick sounds like something used for the making of a heartbeat (but doesn't actually sound like a beating heart), but goes with the song and isn't just going "thump thump thump thump", which is good otherwise it wouldn't sound smooth at all. The constant cymbal crash at the end does disrupt the smoothness like that, however, but can sound fine if you are not paying 100% attention to the song while it's running in your playlist. I would be lying if I said there weren't better sounding versions of this song, but don't leave DJ Cyker out in the open, he might just come around again some day.
  3. Catchy melody. Nice rhythms on the synth thingy at the beginning. Massive panning effects in the middle followed by a rewinding type sound of the whole song with crunchy noises deafening it. Putting it in this style seems like it would be hard to add something else...without it sounding bad. Maybe an effect here and there could have been added since it likes to screw around with things to make it sound intense. Download for the melody at least.
  4. Highly amplified noises! Doesn't stray away from Starla's style. Download this if you aren't afraid of video game music, which this actually follows a lot in the "traditional video game music mixing style". None of the samples sound instrumental, sound effects from the game are used, and finally the game over music, which I can already tell it's game over music even though I haven't played the game...why must they all sound the same? Play this in your car really loud if you wanna scare everyone. Just be sure to stay under 100 Decibles! ....Decibals....whatever....sound units! Don't wanna be caught by the police even though the music will probably give you plenty of time to escape from the cops.
  5. Sounds like something that would be on remix.kwed.org Nice stuff going on here. Good chiptune. Variation is great until the middle, then everything from the first half seems to be used somewhere until the outro of the song which is a fadout including an unheard-from-the-other-parts-of-the-song loop. Not something I'd rush to my computer to quickly turn on in desperate need of me-inspiring music. Chuck Dodgers...weird name...weird music selections...his bomberman one is a lot catchier and sets more of a video game style of song rather than something more professional, which this mix seems to be to me, like some 80's band who would happen to do a chiptune remix or something.
  6. While smooth and mellow as Saunders says, there is also that element of chill brought out by that wonderful flute sounding sample, similarly experienced in feeling with what Avien's FF3 'Winds of Eternity' brings (see what people are raving about it here). 2:00 is my favorite part, as it strays into another melody, and is a nice change from the rest. I've never played the game but I've heard some of the original music, and all of it is exactly the opposite of this genre. Therefore much must have been done with this, and with the FF3 'Mix sounding similar, we can tell Avien sure likes this type of music!
  7. DANGIT I JUST PASTED SOMETHING OVER MY MESSAGE So anyway, to simplifiy: -Repetitive, a word used to describe lots of old OC songs but repetitious natures of songs is not something to bother with since most everyone who would come to this site is prepared to hear repetition (pop music fans as well for that matter). -Goes well with the background in the game. -Drums seem to have been made according to the song, not the other way around. Second half seems stronger in that area. -Not something you'd blast in your car. -Good for internet surfing. -Good energy -Check out mellogear's other songs as they bring out his creativity more than this 'Mix does. Dang I'm hungry. EDIT: Whoops, mutagene did the Shadow of the Beat 'Mixes, not Mellogear.
  8. Two parts to this, both being pretty repetitive, such is the nature of standard hip hop. It doesn't bother me, and I always await the 2nd part because it's a good twist, though the beat could have had some more variation. It seems to be a simpler version of the beat found in NoppZ's '3 Ways' ReMix (which is a really addicting song you must get). All the melody is covered in this, I'm pretty sure. Fans of the original shouldn't be at loss as far as that goes.
  9. Overall the sound was nice, not much of a melody I can go with. The repetitive nature doesn't seem to come from the constant flute thing going "DO do do do DO do do do DO do do do DO do do do" (I could listen to that for hours for some reason, which is a good thing for this song) but in the way that everything sounds the same. This is good for setting a style but not for someone who likes variety. I'm sure there are people who can use this listen for some kind of purpose. There is this one little part that bothers me. 3:14 through 3:36. The instrument carrying the melody reappears "after a long hiatus" with some noticable drums with some background voice and background noise and a flute randomly that gradually get more dramatic with some cool wavy noise appearing just in between 3:33 through 3:36. It's a real great build up to what seems like some climactic part of the song is going to break loose, but then right after 3:36 everything abruptly stops, continuing with the pre-3:14 flow. Kinda like this post.
  10. yep strings = something amazing everything else = uninteresting Actually, the very first time I heard this I really liked the whole thing as I wasn't expecting it at all (djp said it was wild didn't he?), but a day later or so and another listen turned that around. Give it a listen at least, great first time trip. I love the second time the "interesting" strings come in with the beat.
  11. It's amazing if anyone takes this guy seriously. It's all just crap that doesn't say anything about the piece. It's ok to not like it for something as small as not liking the samples, but using some offensive non-existant example just doesn't cut it. I don't care if this was played with NES samples, the arranging is just great. Changing the style of the original and making it work is a definite plus as well, no matter how attached you are to the original. Not my favorite piece on OC (what is?), but give it a try, it could be yours (and its percentage of it being your favorite is far greater than something like ex-OC mix Bad Tuna).
  12. Not if it's done right. I remember the Temporal Distortion mix covering the same song, I didn't really like it that much for some reason. This, however, this...is pretty freaking cool even though I've heard the theme so many times. I remember this on vgmix awhile back. The second half seems better as more originality is put into it by then. Definitely something to put the volume to the max for.
  13. I honestly cant stand that voice sample used near the end (also located near the beginning) almost so much so I can barely stand listening to this. Everything else is great and wouldn't lose nearly as many points (if I were to give this a grade anyway) if that sample was removed.
  14. You really have to listen to the whole thing to appreciate it. It's one of those songs that takes you on a journey. Opens up with nice atmosphere to show what's going to go down. No distinct melody or pattern is present until 1:15. It continues in it's growth from there to 1:48 where something loud is noticable and you can get "into it". About half way through things stop. Another melody seems to be growing. I am reminded of various places from the game Terranigma. Things keep growing in this second half until it hits 3:35 where my favorite part comes in. A slow string guides you through the rhythm with the melody at the same time. Something very dramatic and eerie about this part. I like it a lot, same goes for any other song that successfully pulls that feeling off. The drums vary, mostly being either absent or blended perfectly in the background, nothing techno about this at all. 5 minutes? Seems like 2.
  15. Opening chorals are a little annoying and it takes awhile to get into the main part. I mainly wanted to pop in here and say when it hits 1:08 the melody sounds like an ultra fast and cheesed melody from the song NoppZ mixed from Asterix & Obelix. It sounds like only 7 of the first notes from it. Just thought that was interesting.
  16. The melody in this is very weird. It seems like it could vary greatly but it stays the same. Hmmm. Maybe it's just a sign of a good and flexible melody. So those who don't hear what I would hear will most likely enjoy the serenity of it all.
  17. There's some nice arranging going on here. The very beginning sounds so familiar, as from not a Final Fantasy game, like maybe Radical Dreamers or something. Not something I listen to much because I don't usually frantically search for final fantasy prelude mixes, but that beginning will always be in my memory.
  18. Definitely something to play real loud. It's heavy in itself but as smooth as a milkshake, so turning the volume full blast won't make your ears hurt. I like how the melody flows with all the drums used. Above average OC material.
  19. WTF is a good round up for this mix. Unlike anything I've heard before, and somehow I never picked this mix up until now (I have 99% OC songs). The first half I wasn't so sure I'd like it, but suddenly it clicked and I was insanely enjoying it for some reason. Definitely listen the whole way through, and keep reviewing this so it stays at the top gogogoggoo!!! Though I do admit it's best to not overlisten. This is definitely one for showing friends *runs away maniacally*
  20. It may sound like "noise" but the samples are very nice with a very cool beat line and everything that is constantly changing. I don't think the "bow" sound is annoying at all. Of course now that I say that and listen to it again I notice it does have that "bow" voice/sound a lot and would get annoying if you didn't like it, but I do like it. Never played the game but I don't really want to slap myself silly and get a rom, I wanna keep the essence of the mix as a "song" itself. Any fan of industrial probably already has this mix.
  21. I'm not sure what the original theme is called but it's well known and played in both Smash Brothers games where the acid rises. It's a little difficult to pick out, I can only recognize one part. This is very weird, if it's only based on that theme, lots of arrangement into this. It's like a forgotten OC ReMix for me. Maybe I'll make steps to it or smth
  22. Such happiness....makes me want to spin around and stuff. I like the whole thing, but I'd like to point out the best out of it. Best vocal part: Chorus, definitely the chorus. Everything about the voice is on perfect rhythm with the rest of the song. It would definitely sound bland without all those effects done to it (no offense to djp's stand alone singing, because it would be true for everyone methinks...except for rock bands). So basically everyone could have a good voice, but it would sound better with effects =) Best instrument: Piano, definitely the piano. I could whistle all the piano for the rest of my life and it would rarely get old. I would have never seen the original melody in its glory if it wasn't for this ReMix. I don't know why, I just didn't really hold much regard for this in the past, but now it's one of my fav djp songs.
  23. Great guitar work, doesn't sound annoying at all. I was waiting for an ironmix to be posted (I never really participated in them or even downloaded anything) so it would force me to start participating in listening and reviewing or whatever goes on in there. This kinda sounds like this one song...nothing to do with VG mixes...seems like a lot of people would have heard it...just don't know what the title is. doo do do do dooooooooo, doo do do do doooooo do-do-do Definitely one of the better Sonic mixes. I never really go out of my way to listen to a lot of the Sonic mixes for some reason.
  24. Massive...synths...everywhere... well, uh, just felt this deserved to have more than the initial review. This will definitely be your thing if you love wailing synths, which djp's earlier remixes have a definite prominence in it seems. One of those songs that gets you all emotional when you try to whistle it like the synth would sound. Without listening closely it sounds like the same drum loop is being played over and over again, which I don't really notice too much with his songs. The drums aren't the main focus, though, as anyone would be listening to the synths and guitar over them any day. Need more input!
  25. bwehehehehehehehe I agree with the second one except for "one of the best". As ecco says, nothing to it really, but that's why I like it. Laid back guitars, yet heavy at the same time, but not too heavy. Definitely a different take from the usual sounding mix of this song, that's another plus. Don't really care if it didn't take long to make it, this site isn't about professionalism.
