  1. All I can say is that this is awesome coverage and an overall great medley. A definite download. Btw, also check out their "Booster Tower" cover on their site...it's some great stuff. I can't wait to see more of the One Up Mushrooms!
  2. This is just a great remix that I've had on my playlist for some time. The intro and the ending are awesome, and the middle is the standard awesome solid and grungy guitar playing. The piano manages to fit in, also, without being too cheesy. One thing, though. It's subtle but towards the end the bass is actually a couple of beats ahead of the melody. I've listened to this remix periodically over about a month, and I just noticed it a bit ago. Still, this a very good remix.
  3. One word...ok, two words: Fucking awesome. I love this remix...I love the "electronic noises" that are just txt and exe files loaded as samples. Somehow, the remix as a whole manages to fit the feel of the odd game (because this was a game that was VERY odd) with a catchy theme. My favorite part, I think, would be 1:53. It's kind of empty for a bit and the lead instrument seems to have a bit of trouble playing the theme - it's just...awesome! And then it sounds real cool when it goes all crazy after that. Towards the end, the creative improvistation and the little addition of the little arpeggio from the game is just perfect. It eventually morphs into the ending, after some neat sound effects. The ending does sound a bit different from the rest of the mix - but is a PERFECT closer for this type of crazy and werid remix. I think Mazedude does it much better when he's doing crazy and fun stuff - and in my opinion, this is his best. But I have very odd preferences...
  4. I liked this one - and even though it was noticeably annoying, I don't mind the clipping any bit. It seems to give the remix sort of an underprocessed feeling, which I feel gives it character. It seems like there's a whole bunch of remixes here that have everything perfectly processed, but that eliminates any real feeling I can get from the music. It just makes it sound too...perfect, and music isn't perfect. So yes, clipping IS annoying, but it's something you can get used to. The guitar playing is great, and the cell phone adds a great deal to this remix. Some good stuff....
  5. This is a fucking awesome remix. There's no way around saying it, either. It shouldn't have been close at all in the judges forum. First of all - the drum loop doesn't seem to super-fit when it first comes in, but when the actual melody comes in with that great ethnic lead, it fits perfectly and adds to an already great mix. Second, the samples are great and the arrangement is top notch. Apparently it's not extremely faithful to the original theme - but that's ok. It wouldn't have been as well executed and sounded as good if Israfel didn't take some creative liberties here. There is no question that this is not only an OCRemix, but a cut above most OCRemixes. But this got in, so no worries - and I'm really glad it did. I'll be listening to this one for a looong time...
  6. Arggh! What's with the mixes of tunes from the first gameboy Kirby game ending up under Kirby's Superstar?? Yes, the music was present in Kirby's Superstar, but the exact same tune was in the original Kirby. I didn't hear anything off until Mustin said something. That being said, the clipping in the guitar is pretty bad. But my first mix was MUCH MUCH worse than this with clipping, so I'm a little lenient when it comes to those types of issues. The drumloop is too loud, and it's pretty much a generic techno one, which annoys me. Still, this is a well arranged remix. There are parts where the original melody seems to not be present, but maybe I'm imagining things. Good techno, good Kirby coverage. Work on the technical issues Mustin mentioned, Double A Ron, and you'll be just fine.
  7. This was a pretty simple theme in SMB3 that'd I'd never imagined to have a remix of. Sill, analoq seems to pull it off very well...it is a beautiful, almost overblown interperatation of the theme. The fact that it's done very professionaly discourages me just a bit - it almost doesn't sound like playing Mario 3 with the frog and the annoying squids and the little bubbles that push you every which way anymore. But maybe I'm just a little too used to weird stuff. Anyway, this is still a great remix that everyone should get. It's one of the better orchestral remixes I've heard in quite awhile...
  8. Fucking Awesome. This is just a PERFECT translation of the original tune from Axelay, and every little transition and detail is done just right and sounds great. I'm normally a little mad about the liberal use of strings in rock tunes, but they just add to the remix in this case. Otherwise, I can't say anything bad about this one at all.
  9. Wow. This was a nice, unpredictable, and very fun mix. I'm not a huge fan of techno, as I've probably said millions of times, but this is just cool. Never played the game, but I love the voice samples, the numerous pitch bends, and the tons of interesting things that happen throughout this remix. Very well arranged and fun stuff from Cyborg Jeff. I hope it isn't overlooked just because most people haven't heard of the game...
  10. Right away the drums are perfect, and so is the bass and so is the instrument doing the bond thang (forget what it's called). However, the piano sounds a bit plain to me...dunno why, but I guess I just expected it be a little "jazzier" and vibrant and less plain. When it gets to the sax solo (which is awesome), the piano part gets better, and the solos after that sound pretty much perfect. The one main problem I have with this remix is that same one I have with pretty much everything by Scott Peeples. It is very well-arranged and sounds good, but it's just not dynamic or intresting enough for me to keep listening to it over and over. It's just background music that doesn't catch my attention enough for me to get into the groove...
  11. I like and have always liked and will always like this remix. It's cool. It's neat. It's fun. And it's an intensely listenable and well arranged piece of music that perfectly pays homage to Kirby's happy cheeryness. The part at 1:43 when it slows down is a perfect middle section to the mix and then it starts to build up to a nice optimistic end that brings me to tears every time I listen to it. Thanks for bringing back the memories, Mr. Mazedude.
  12. I really feel like this is just some background orchestral cheese with absolutely no direction. The long intro is pretty unessisary...and overall things are just kind of quiet and plain. It doesn't get very interesting at all until it gets to 2:00, where it is good...but there's just not enough of it. This type of remix can really be mind-blowing when done right, but I just don't feel like this is doing things for me. Still, the arrangement was pretty well done.
  13. Not K. Prazlowicz's best, but still a cool listen. The "mismatch" of instruments didn't really bother me too much. The original melody was a good choice for this type of remix...and the two instruments seem to at least deliver something entertaining and happy yet grungy and the same time. Overall, good stuff from K. Prazlowicz...but not something everyone will like.
  14. I think this one is pretty good...it's a good choice for the original tune and everything...it just didn't strike me as particulary awesome or original. And there are some things that just don't sound right, but it's really just a fun little remix that's nice to listen to. Not my favorite style, but not too bad...
  15. My god! DiscoDan can appreciate something he doesn't personally like! I'd never thought I'd see the day (hehe...joking)... Anyway, this is good shiznit. Never played Legendary Wings, but this sounds a lot like Rize picked up from right where the Minibosses left of and delivered some kickass guitar coverage. Nice job here..
  16. I seem to be the only one who recognizes the themes! Anyway, I wouldn't say that this is Mazedude's BEST OCRemix, but I do think it strikes a good middle ground between something like Barrels O Fun and something somewhat softer and more subdued. This is really truly his best Doom remix though...it combines industrialism with muzak with techno with just about all styles in an all out medley...you can just tell that so much work was put into all the technical and musical elements of this remix. In short, it's very very good. EDIT: I think I've found 7 or 8 DOOM2 themes in it. But I can't decide about some of them, so it might be less than that.
  17. I liked this one when it was in the WIP forum, therefore I like it here. Not much else to say...
  18. I love this one. Great for an intermission-type track for a mix CD, and also brings back happy memories of sitting hunched over a tiny olive green screen..... I wish there were more gameboy remixes...
  19. Ok. I love the theme, love the game, but I don't love techno. This theme seems to be a very popular to cover with techno, and I was skeptical about this remix. Still, it's fun, it's done well, and I think it does the theme justice. There's lots of variation and cool effects, which is always important, and the strings are a nice addition (even if they seem a bit out of place). I'm working on a remix of this theme myself, so I was a bit nervous when I saw this one. Mine's a different style, though...and it probably won't be nearly as good. Anyway, some good stuff, especially for those of you who love the techno stuff like DiscoDan. He works in mysterious ways...
  20. Can you say "kickass"?! I most certainly think you can, considering how kickass this remix is. Effects are everywhere... And that's just about it. This mix is indescribable, and certainly one of my favorite Mazedude remixes. It's not entirely listenable at first or at any time, so it just keeps getting better as my ears pick up new sounds and effects that couldn't been noticed the first, second, third, etc. time.... In short, some good heavy shiznit.
  21. Aww...here I come with a non-positive review for a very universally popular OCR remix. I probably just lost even more potential friends or fans or anybody who will like any future remixes I might possibly do or agree with me on any issue. In short, nobody likes a critc. ........... ANYWAY ........... Here's my issue with this remix: I love DOOM. Awesome game. So when I discovered this site, naturally this remix was one of the first I downloaded. When I first listened to it, I didn't like it, but I don't like many things the first time so no big deal. I then kicked it off my first remix CD because I didn't think it fit very well. I listened to it some more and still didn't really like it, but then decided to include it on my second CD, figuring it would just take me a bit to get into. I listened to it once or twice on the CD, and now skip over it every time. I just can't get into it. I dunno what it is...I like the intro, although the remix seems too heavy on distortion and makes it a lot more irratating for me to listen to. But when it gets into the actual melody, it really just doesn't seem like anything special to me. Maybe I don't like the style. I'll take that back - I DON'T like the style. But still, especially when it breaks into that section at about 1:59, I'm not really getting into it. The keyboard part that plays the little repetitive eight notes has always annoyed me a bit, and that's been part of it. Still, it sounds like a horribly distorted orchestra combined with some elevator music stuff...and I just don't dig all the effects with the little waves and really any of the production at all. It's just background music...it doesn't feel real or right, and there's nothing that distinguishes it from any other remix or new age music or anything like that makes it grab my attetion. And for me, that's crucial in a remix. I guess you could say that this is the opposite of the kind of remix I like. Whatever way you want to say it, I don't like this remix, which proves it's not universal. Sorry for not being nice in the review, but I just don't get this one...and probably never will...
  22. I've not been too much of a fan of DJP's newer stuff...it has seemed to smoothed over and clean for me, and I like his older stuff because it has some more character and personality to it. I'm also not always a fan of those funky bleepy keyboards and beats, because they're present in a big majority of remixes he does. Regardless of what I think on some of his others, I like this one better than a lot of his recent submissions. It has an echoy pad in the background I'm not nesissarily fond of, but I like the addition of the violin with all the other funky instruments. The percussion is good too...and overall this remix gives the impression of sounding like some odd techno/reggae mix...Maybe just a little reverby for me. I must say that I also really like the flute solo at 1:50...and the organs are good too. Overall, this is good stuff...but it just feels a bit "mushy" as I said earlier. And with all the stuff going on here, it just feels odd to me. Not particularly out of place, but odd...
  23. One of the better mixes involving strings. Instead of making some echoey epic techno combo or such which many people do, Gux just went straight ahead and did a string quartet with absolutely nothing else. It takes some balls to do that. And I must say he pulled it off very very well... Gux really is one of the better and riskier remixers on this site, imo...
  24. Uhh, I just figured I post what I had before we reverted back to Tuesday. It's more in response to what people were saying then, but whatever... I think people need to realize that this is just Shael having fun and being stupid. This isn't an "epic" remix of any sort, and obviously he could do better in terms of quality of instruments and lyrics, but he doesn't choose to. Not every remix has to be serious... That being said, I like this remix. It's falls under the category of being so stupid it's funny. For me, it's something fun to listen to just when I feel like listening to something stupid...and that's all it is, and that's all it intends to be.
  25. Aug. I reviewed this one before we had to revert back to Tuesday, so I guess I should do it again. I dunno about anybody else, but I really like this style of remix. But then again, I haven't heard the original before (though I have played Silent Hill). The remix is a bit short and loud, but overall I'm liking it. If I had to grade it, I'd give it about an 84/100. Not awesomely spectactular, but still something that's on my playlists.
