  1. All they have of me is my awful attempt at recording the Aria from FF6? I definately need to go through these sites and pick up some stuff.
  2. You definately set up a nice drive to it, which I liked. Definately invocative of the original. I find it awkward that you go through the whole thing one time verbatim before you do anything else. It felt like "This is the theme, now here's what I'm going to do with it." Hate to say it, but I also started to space out towards the end. That's where you really started to do some good stuff, but by that point I'd already lost it, of sorts. It didn't really have something to capture my interest, like maybe a change of instrumentation. More experimentation would be good here, I think.
  3. Not the previous version, the part that I sang last night. The idea was to sing it all together so the volume would be the same as well as the 'mood' my voice was in. Thank you though!
  4. 4-5 Recording Up So, I did another recording, and I think I'm liking this one much more than the previous two. Again, asking comments. The stupid thing I did manage to do is save over the file with the last verse before I added it in, so it's not complete, but nearly so. And for those of you asking, I will be adding in the last part (ohhhhs), I just haven't gotten to it yet. Thanks for all your critiques!
  5. It was meant to be a sort of call and response thing, but it can be interpreted different ways.
  6. You haven't checked the WIP boards lately. I have something in progress, as well as a mix to be posted that I was a part of. I'm definately still making new stuff! Glad everyone liked the piece who's commented!
  7. That's great that you like it, but wait until it's finished until you listen so much! That way you'll really really enjoy it (hopefully!) I have a chance to record on Thursday or Friday (or maybe both), but I'm unsure of what direction I should go in. The shorter version I originally did has more power, but the longer one probably sounds a little better. Anyone have suggestions on which I should use, and or if things need to be changed in them? Any comments are greatly appreciated.
  8. Updated with a full re-recording. Please check it out and comment. I didn't (couldn't) fix everything, though some of it was intentional, so that remained. Thanks! New Recording Downloadable here!
  9. Lyrics, for those who want them. "I am so afraid, Everyone I know runs away, Walking into darkness and turning away from me. I reach out for them, Calling to them, wishing they'd come, They don't even look back, they keep on walking away. I'll turn my back too, Reject those who've rejected me. Take my hopes and dreams, turn them into my nightmares. I'll walk to the dark, Find my way out all by myself. Forget all the rest, just have faith in no one but me. And you're not alone! There's someone waiting there for you, Right out before your eyes. Put your trust in them, just as they put their trust in you, Strengthening your resolve. And you're not alone! You've got friends there to pull you through, Fighting your demons strong. Show them all your hopes, hold your dreams out for them to see, Let them know who you are. And you're not alone! There's someone waiting there for you, Calling your name out loud. Never turn your back, keep your arms open wide for them, Keep them right at your side. And you're not alone! You've got friends there to pull you through, Standing right by your side. Realize your hopes, bring your dreams to reality. Always know who you are."
  10. I'm on my second year on this mix, and I swear it's never going to be finished, but I'm going to try. I wrote lyrics to You're Not Alone from Final Fantasy 9 some time ago for a friend going through tough times, and sadly since I've gotten an arrangement of it I've never been able to finish it to my liking. Sadly, I know my voice isn't really suited for something like this (and yes, I'm almost certain everyone who posts here is going to say that), but it's my mix and I want to get it done as best as I can. What I have hear is the first 'finalized' set of the main vocals here. There is harmony, and if you want to hear the old version, you can check out my website (signature) to see where this is going. No vocal effects have been added, because I'm asking peoples opinions on intonation and other tips on the vocals in general. 4-20 Update Take My Hopes and Dreams Download here 3-30-07 Update Download 4-5 Recording Up Please, constructive criticism, and anything that might help me out here! Thanks!
  11. Thanks to everyone for their comments. Most people brought out stuff that I knew, but it never hurts to hear people's opinions on what they heard and how it affected their experiance, as it were. I need to thank Kholdstare again for processing the vocals, especially in the *ahem* white girl rap section. He actually made it sound good! I agree with Hale-Bopp in terms of exposure vs. prizes. (of course, I definately enjoyed my money, which will be spent on the first box set of Tekkaman Blade, don't get me wrong) I like it when people write me a PM or something either with tips, praise, or questions. It always gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside when someone does that. As for how to do it, I don't really know. It would be one thing if there were a news blog on the front page where someone could comment on it, but that's not really an option beyond linking to the thread, but that's not really eye-catching. If the winning entry was made into a remix and posted, that would probably up the views, but that would require more work from the entrant and original mixer, and then it would still have to pass the panel. It's really a tough spot we're in with this contest. As for a song for next time, I thought earlier that the first stage theme from Actraiser (Fillmore) might work out for this, but it would depend on the mix that was made to it. *shrug*
  12. I think we've all taken this for granted, but I/we need to thank Malcos for all the work he did for the contest. It's gotta be tough to run it, mix it, tally it, etc, so... THANKS!
  13. Congratulations to Hale Bopp, he had an awesome entry! I definately found the other two entries to be very creative, I would have never thought of incorporeating different sayings from other languages/cultures. Definately some good work from you two. I'm already anticipating the next round!
  14. One more day to vote people! Let's make this competition real!
  15. Despite that the instrumentation is sparce, I think this mix comes together quite well. Nothing seems out of place, and the various combinations of instruments keep everything from stagnating. Catchy tune, nicely done.
  16. Found this a while ago, but I forgot I saved it to my compy. I have no idea where I got it though. Go Kefka!
  17. I WANTED to put like 8000 of those little capsule thingies that turn into sponges into the pool, but they were too expensive, and would probably ruin the filter. Or somehow lock myself in a room and play j-pop over the intercom. I've heard of the art classes making a 12 foot paper-mache penis in the parking lot, as well as the seniors just skipping classes and having a barbeque in the front of the school. Both good ideas.
  18. I love the original, and this is an amazing interpretation. My one beef is that overall it feels like its been rushed through. Perhaps it's just the change in tempo compared to the original, but I think it would have sounded better if it were a tad slower. Still, I'm loving this mix, it's been on repeat for at least 20 minutes now.
  19. It actually might be a good idea to have a sticky in General for all the compos to post when voting times are up or something, that way all someone has to do is add a new post like "VOCR voting stage begins now." Then again, maybe not....I dunno.
  20. I forgot about this, and I really need to mention it now before I forget again, but Kholdstare did the vocal production on my vocals, so I really need to thank him! THANKS KHOLDSTARE!!!!! EDIT: I've voted!
  21. For those of you who have listened to the entries and/or will listen to the entries, I give you all permission to laugh at a certain section in mine. You'll all know what I'm talking about...I didn't have time to come up with a melody!
