  1. I think this arrangement is pretty awesome, and overall I enjoyed listening to it quite a bit. You've taken the original theme into an obvious and needed direction; all the style variations are great, and instrumentation is chosen well. Drums work to compliment everything nicely. I had a couple nitpicks, namely that overall the track runs a little long, and probably could lose a couple of the weaker variations. Along with that some of the transitions aren't the strongest, though none of them stood out as absolutely needing a fix. The bass feels a little muddy overall as well. No problem giving this a YES
  2. Talked with Will today, and it's going to be too much of a hassle to fix. I'm going to say YES although that hiss is going to haunt me forever now. ;_;
  3. Halc is back with his traditional style, this time working with our friend Stevo for a pretty fun collab. You've taken the original and added a lot of ambiance to it, also slowed it down to get a nice effect. Guitars are really working well here, everything is incorporated together nicely, and the work between the two of you is pretty seamless. YES
  4. Good sources to work with. Zero Stage 1 is pretty repetitive, and I think you did a pretty good job of adding to it in such a way to expand on it well, although I think this still suffers a bit from a 'been there, done that' sort of feeling towards the end. I think you could trim this down a bit, starting with the intro. Even though you're adding parts to it, 1:17 of an intro just feels like too much before we get into some good melodic content. Production is pretty decent all around, but I felt like there's a lot going on in the mid-ranges for parts of the mix, which is crowding things more than it needs to. There are some fun counter-melodies and harmonies that aren't coming out as well as they could. The lead synths aren't cutting as well as I'd like, either, partly due to the issue above, and partly due to synth choice. It's a fun start, but I think it needs some revision. NO (resubmit)
  5. This is definitely a fun source to work with, and there is plenty of fun to be had with even using just the chord structure. Both of you have used that to your advantage, but I think overall this just goes on for too long using that route. There's only so much of the same chords with new solos or variations that one can take in one arrangement. The sections individually are fine, so I'd just pick a few to drop. Production honestly isn't wowing me here. Guitars are way loud, and they crowd pretty much everything out. Because of that, some of the end sections feel overly crowded. Please adjust the overall balance on the instruments. Mellotron isn't doing it for me personally, but see what the other judges think. If nothing else, I'd like you to fix up the mechanical sequencing on it. Lots of fun in this arrangement, but it needs to be trimmed, and the production needs some work. NO (resubmit)
  6. I was really excited when I started listening to this, because it is a totally unique take on this source. Everything is super laid back, and the arrangement fits well in the jazz style. Production is fairly clean, although I think the bass could use to come up a little. The mix is unfortunately very short, and could use a little more to it overall. I think there's some great development to it, but it just seemed to need more. The ending is by far the weakest spot of the entire mix, and really needs to be improved. I hope you fix this up! NO (resubmit please!)
  7. I can't say I'm impressed with the source tune, but there are a lot of different things you've done here that are definite improvements over the source. The arrangement has some personalization to it, but you can still hear the source pretty much throughout. I think the mix is too long overall. I think you can trim the fat here, and keep the more interesting sections of the mix. The sounds are pretty vanilla, and they aren't really conveying any energy in them. Immediately I wished the bass had a little more bite to it, for example. The textures throughout are pretty sparse, and I felt like there were times where there was a lot of empty space. The panning is used tastefully at times, although near the end it felt a little strange. You've got a good start here, but it needs work on both arrangement and production. Glad to see you have some drive to improve! NO (resubmit)
  8. Got White at Toys R Us. They had a deal of a free stylus/cloth/ds cartridge cases with the game, plus %50 off another DS game, which I ended up getting Super Scribblenauts with (and had a $15 gift card I keep forgetting about so that game was essentially free!). Will most likely be starting with a Snivy, but we'll see....
  9. Hi! My name is JD (Jonathan DeWitt), hence my ReMixer name: JD-DJ. (If you care, it's because DJ-JD was taken when I first used the name on Acid Planet all those years ago.) I actually made this mix a couple years back. It never got submitted because of technical issues, but I found it after digging around my old songs and decided to give it another shot. The game is Halo: Combat Evolved, and the song I remixed is called ... Halo. Not even kidding. The name of my mix is a pun based on the ring-worlds the humans call halos, of course, and the Master Chief's infamous nickname among the Covenant: "Demon". It makes for an appropriate oxymoron, I think; being regarded as a demon when he should actually be seen as a hero. Oh, and if it helps, my userid is 24658. I look forward to reading why the judges said "NO." Heh heh. =P -JD ------------------ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXdxUYKlQQY *I requested a quieter version from the mixer, will post new version if we get it.

ReMixer name: ProtoDome Real name: Blake Troise Userid: 25246 Name of game arranged: NiGHTS Into Dreams Name of song arranged: Under Construction Original Composer: Naofumi Hataya, Tomoko Sasaki, Fumie Kumatani Stevo's Project, please don't post this before it's ripe. I can't sing well, but autotuning can. Basically your standard, four-on-the-floor-dance-pop-untss-untss track with added chiptune for extra flavour. The lyrics are pretty cheesy, and mildly provocative when you think about it, but feel free to attribute your own meanings to them. It's already dark outside, The lamps begin to glow, Gunna stay with you all night, Until the sun begins to show. The glare from the city lights, Are dancing on your face, The mood is right, our dreams alive, It's you I can't replace. It's getting way past twelve, and the night has just begun. Just listen to your heart, You know that I'm the one. -Oh baby Go, take a look outside, The landscape shimmers blue, I'll give you the moon and stars You make my dreams come true. Can't be without you, no. Can't you see? I need you tonight, Oh baby I want you right here with me. Our lips are getting near, Your eyes are locked to mine. Our bodies move in closer, Go slow and take your time... Let's slip our hands together, And dream the world away. I want this night to last forever With you I want to stay. Dahh dahh dah dahhh dah dahhhh dii dahh-ahhh etc. The fun thing about this is that there is vocals. ---------------------

Contact Information ReMixer name: kuro Real name: Matheus Affonso Email: mdaffonso@gmail.com Submission Information Game arranged: Metroid Song name: Kraid's Lair System: NES Composer: Hirokazu Tanaka OST: One day, for some reason I can't remember, I ended up re-listening to the original Metroid music. I didn't remember how awesome some of the songs, like Brinstar, Escape and Kraid's Lair sounded. Suddenly I thought: "Would Kraid's Lair sound good if I added drums to it?" I was thinking that maybe the original creepiness of the song would be very hard to maintain using drums, so I tried doing something not so creepy sounding. The song was awesome, but I had seen some "rearrangements" on the internet that weren't properly rearrangements. The structure was always the same, there were almost never new elements to the song. I tried adding to the source, instead of just changing bits and arrangements. I play the guitar and (more pretend than play) the bass, and at the moment my main bass inspirations were Victor Wooten and Louis Johnson, hence the abundant slapping and popping. Anyways, here is my attempt. I hope you enjoy. ------------------------

I love the source material, it's one of my favorite tracks in the game, and I was really able to pour my heart out into this mix. I wanted to preserve the feel of the boss fight in my output, so I tried to really give this mix a tense, yet climactic sound, kind of like if I was making the mix for a remake of the game and setting it to that same boss fight. When Dj Mokram brought his idea to the table, I listened to a few HeavensDust tracks for inspiration and tailored some of the track specifically to allow him to really explore the leftover space with Japanese instruments, and it turned out way better than I imagined it would. Dj Mokram: Ohnami Konami (and the game sequence associated with it) contains the heaviest and most direct reference to the art of 'Ningyo Joruri' (or japanese puppet theater) which is something I absolutely wanted to bring into the remix as well. Blending together two genres as radically different as traditional/folklore music and rock/metal was a bit of a fun challenge. I added some ethnic flavor on top of Dustin's awesome shreddage, including some Dizi, Shakuhachi, Shamisen, Koto, Taiko drums, Otsuzumi and Shime daiko. As far as the collab process goes, Dusk did most of the job on this arrangement. I only took care of the ethnic parts, mixed the song, and found a translation to the title that wasn't involving 'bad luck'. ;D Zenpyou means 'Omen' or 'Harbinger', which reflects the ominous nature of both the source song and that puppeteer boss fight, known in-game as: 'The Battle Show'. ------------------
  13. Game: Mega Man X2 Tracks arranged: Overdrive Ostrich Remix Title: Dusty Dune Devil This is one of my tracks for the Maverick Rising project. I had originally intended it to be a desert sounding rock song, but when I added violins, the track took a turn towards Irish/riverdance and I decided to just go with it. So now it's three genres in one. link: -------------------- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afCfbnOBAns
  14. Kruai Asa Price asabprice@gmail.com kruai.bandcamp.com ID: 19037 Sonic & Knuckles Death Egg Zone (Act 2) Your own comments about the mix, for example the inspiration behind it, how it was made, etc. Title: Eggs in Spaaace! Remixer: Kruai Hello! This is my first remix from Sonic & Knuckles. Basically, I saw this song and thought it looked rather ronery, since there's only one Death Egg mix and it's for Act 1. So, I made this! I wanted to keep the energy from the original song, but I wanted to make it more electronic than it already was. I love incorporating lots of sounds into my songs, so I have sounds I think I picked up from electro, drum&bass, and various other techno sources. I tend to make soundtrack-esque pieces, and I don't think this one is an exception. I made it using Reaper, samples I recorded, and various additives synths and filters. Hope you enjoy it! ReMixer Name: DJ SymBiotiX Real Name: Fernando Chorney Website: http://www.djsbx.com/blog/ Userid: 15925 Game Arranged: Megaman X5 Songs Arranged: Zero Stage 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mJPx7r5Q6s) , Opening Stage Zero (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgsBH3zURt8) Remix Name: Zero's Plight NOTE: A few things first off. This submission is for the MMX: Maverick Rising project. Secondly, this is my final mixdown of the track. The track will be mastered by blind at a future date, so technically this isn't the *final* mp3, but since we want to stick to the release date, I figured I would submit my mixdown and let you guys know that it will be mastered at a later date. So note that it will be very quiet as it has not been mastered yet. Comments: This remix is mostly a remix of Zero Stage 1. I wanted to take the original arp and breakdown and expand it in to something more. Adding a bunch of layers and expanding on the idea. The first breakdown is really the only part that is completely original and the rest uses the source material and adds on to it, and rearranges it. The second breakdown is where I used a bit of Opening Stage Zero. The breakdown uses one of the melodies from that track, and the part right after it (the 4 on the floor trance part) is basically a rearrangement of that breakdown. I had so much fun making this track, and received tons of great tips and suggestions from Bahamut and Blind on how to bring more of the core out. This track is a nice lush energetic trance track with some awesome melodies and sounscapes, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. - Fernando Chorney -------------------- Zero Stage 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mJPx7r5Q6s Opening Stage Zero http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgsBH3zURt8
  16. halc edit: we went with Super Smash Bros. as they game because we felt it was the game that really defined the source as a 'main theme' of Kirby and also fitting with the overall theme of the album, but if it's no good, you can just attribute it to Kirby Super Star instead, which was the first game in which the song appeared ('Run, Kirby, Run!') Insert Rupee (B. Briggs & halc) 'The Life and Death of Kirby' Super Smash Bros. Source: Dream Land ( )PROJECT MIX - Heroes & Villians halchth commentz: This remix is... decidedly different from our previous collaborations. Our goal was to choose a "definitive" Kirby theme, which are almost always happy and bouncy, and give it a darker more aggressive feel... considering the nature of the project, it seemed fitting to kind of evoke the sense that Kirby was saying "put up or shut up" or, you know, showing his darker and drug-addicted side. We're both really proud of the final product, and it should be noted that Ben was only able to write the ending and finish the remix with the aid of a dangerous amount of alcohol. Enjoy, bitches! ------------------------------
  17. So, joke is out, here is my real vote: -------------------- I like what you've done here. The sources are both kinda laid back, and you take that just a bit further. There is nothing that's really wowing me throughout the mix, but it's not really intended for that. The arrangement of the two sources is nice, as per your usual. Production, for what it is (meaning a mainly chip-tune song) is fine. Everything is clear, sounds balance with each other well, and the sound effects are used to a nice effect. No complaints on that end. Overall, it's a nice track to listen to, and you did a good job arranging the sources. YES
  18. Not easy themes to work with. Super short, super repetitive. Let's see what you've done. Some interesting ideas here. You establish each theme, and then you let instruments get their soloing in. Easily the best arranged section is the MMX2 capsule theme, I liked a lot of what you did there. The other two themes feel a bit added on, however. They aren't developed nearly as well as the MMX2 theme, mostly they are just establishing the theme and then soloing over it. I feel like you are going more for the other two themes to be something of a cameo rather than a real part of the track, which is fine, but they aren't working very well as they are now. All of the transitions are pretty weak, especially the 1:43 transition. The guitar sounds pretty thin, especially in the higher range (the opening really exposes it), and it doesn't feel very supported at times. It feels better in the lower range, so look for ways to beef it up a little when it's up there. Drum sequencing is a little repetitious at times, and the kick drum needs more presence. The synth solo at 1:06 is covered up quite a bit, it needs to come out more. You really took on a challenge with these themes, and I like a lot of what you are doing with the MMX2 theme, but there's quite a bit that needs to be addressed here. NO (resubmit)
  19. I don't totally remember the original version of this in terms of the issues we had with it last time, but I do remember that I enjoyed the overall soundscape and idea with the arrangement. Things are still a little meandering overall, but it seems to fit with the idea of the 'haziness'. Production seems to be pretty good overall. Still a little muddy at times, but again, it seems to add to the overall atmosphere, and nothing is really detracting from listening. I think this works. YES
  20. This is very emotive, and the piano is much better this time around, which is really good for the overall texture. As Andrew mentions, the dissonance really adds some nice depth to this, which is really fun to hear. Thanks for relooking this one over! YES
