There's a ton of creative and super fun usage of the sources here! The melding is pretty seamless, and It made for a nice listen to hear the different sources come in at various times, but felt like a cohesive whole of a track. After listening through a few times and comparing to sources here and there I'm pretty sure this is good to go on the source usage time, but I don't envy Larry timestamping this . Also not sure what people will think in regards to the sampling, though I didn't feel like it was overwhelming.
Really love that the energy is going all the time here. I do think a break somewhere would have been a nice reprieve, but I can imagine that Sonic would never slow down the tempo! The mix overall is a bit on the loud side, though I felt like the balance overall was pretty clear and I never felt like it was muddy or anything.
    Great fun!

I think Wes is pretty correct in his short notes here. The arrangement is really nice, and the live performances are good, but the sampled parts feel blocky. The contrast between the live parts and samples only highlights this further.  I think the track would really benefit from another pass to humanize those parts more. I'd also like to hear the drums get beefed up a bit. The snare sounds weak, and the kick even more so. Working on the drum writing a bit to emphasize the arrangement would be good as well, sometimes the drums feel a bit too much on autopilot.
I think this is close, but needs just a nudge more to get over the bar. I can see this going either way, though. Good luck!

Pretty much agreeing with the NO votes here: the saw synth is pretty vanilla, and being close to the source melody isn't helping the situation. Adding some changes in the melody and playing around with the lead will help set it apart more and overall will feel way more interpretive. The bass is a pretty awesome sound, but I agree that it is a tad low (apparently a little too far from the first sub!) and could be brought up just a bit. Lastly I'm going to agree that the soundscape feels a bit empty at times, and the rhythm guitars do seem like the issue there.
All that being said, the solos and a lot of the drumwork really is pretty unique and fun, and I enjoyed what you did to the arrangement in general to make it your own. I think you can (and should!) take some more creative liberties like you've got here in future works. Look forward to hearing from you again!

I found the arrangement to be very evocative, great use of instrumentation to bring out the emotion throughout. The coin sampling didn't bother me like it did for Mike, but I can see his point. Overall the flow of the arrangement is very strong, and I enjoyed the overall ambiance. There's quite a few good tracks in all of the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon soundtracks, and I always enjoy hearing some new mixes come through.
BTW, PSMD is actually a step up  in difficulty from the previous games, I found myself getting knocked out quite a few times due to not finding good items in the dungeon runs. Definitely try it out sometime if you looking for a decent challenge

I can see the all the above mentioned crits, but I think this has a lot of fun energy and is a unique take on UNACTO. I'd say the positives make up for the crits, though I'd definitely suggest Eino apply the crits to his future works, because they are all valid. This one is a pass for me, though it's a bit close.

Pretty much in full agreement with Kris here; there's a lot to like here, and while there are some issues with the production, they don't really add up to bring a deal breaker here. I do think the track could stand to be a bit more full overall, but the arrangement is pretty fun. The ending works really nice add well, as an extra nor to add

Beat the game today! One survivor of my Nuzlocke Lite (Lurantis!). The challenge was fun, and Lurantis and Mudsdale ended up being the two unexpectedly good surprises for me that I really enjoyed playing with. I am excited now to start catching up on the Poke Pelago stuff now that I can catch the rest of the pokemon in the game

    Whoo, this will be fun.
I will give you a small amount of agreement here. OC ReMixes aren't remixes. They are ReMixes. There is a difference.
OCR has standards that vary from the typical norm, and we look for a specific niche of arrangement. It's not going to fit your average cover or remix, but that's not what we're going for. Plenty of that everywhere else.
Guess what? Every remix on the site does have some semblance of the original. Some of the mixes are easier to figure out than others, true. Not to spark flames here, but just because you don't hear it and don't agree with it doesn't mean it's not there.
Just going back to our standards and judging process, we look for a level of quality in production, so you're right, all the songs sound great!
No judges, staff, or even DJP himself makes any money from this site. We work for free, to bring you awesome music. Any money made off of shirts/etc goes to keeping the site running.
LOVE that song! Also, I totally hear Mario Paint throughout that; it's instantly recognizable to me. And it's a damn cool arrangement.
Here's the thing; you're asking people to prove something that is somewhat subjective based on how people listen to things, their musical aptitude, and their ability to study music. Not everyone is going to come to the same conclusion, or be able to hear the connections between a source and a ReMix as well as others. In general, you can study a mix vs. a source and do a breakdown of what part is where in the mix, how they tie together, etc. You may or may not hear what someone points out to you. You may or may not agree between the connections. That's fine, because everyone is different. However, when you come to a board like this and claim that you are the absolute authority in knowledge of the subject, you're going to instigate flame wars that honestly are not worth the time or effort. I'd find it way better if you took the time to look at a breakdown of a mix and see the connections yourself, or disagree with them. Maybe write a thoughtful review of the mix on how it did or didn't work. Ask others to point out parts you might have missed.
People who submit to OCR take the sources and work to put them in a new light and arrange them in a way that is different from your run-of-the-mill cover or remix (not to say that there aren't awesome and original covers and mixes, I assure you there are plenty!). We do things differently here, so enjoy this little niche of the video game arrangement community for what it is, not what it isn't, IMO.

Gonna straight up agree with the gentlemen above. The arrangement is lovely, and I do hear some subtle personalization in the backing parts, but it does remain pretty close to the original structurally and methodically. I think this is very close in regards to arrangement, and if the production were spot-on I'd be pretty tempted to go YES. The strings are definitely the offender here, though the flute has a couple of moments that sounds a little stiff and could be touched up.
Overall I think this is very close, and I really hope you take another look on this. The track is pretty lovely, and i think maybe expanding out the arrangement a little could go a long way here. Getting a little more humanization will also put you over the tipping point. Good luck!

Yes, we're cool with percussive-only music. That being said, listening through I do agree with Sir Nuts that the amount of the track that is recognizable to the source is pretty low, pretty much at the two points he mentioned. Unless someone else has some other sections they can point out then I'm going to have to go with a NO on this.
I do however want to mention that this is a pretty cool song you've done, and it really conveys a ton of anxiety. Really nice work for 4 days and little experience!

What a great transition between the themes at 0:45. Overall I felt the arrangement was pretty smart and fun, and the adaptions of the sources were good. I wasn't feeling the combination of the sources at 2:23, but that was pretty minor in the long run.
The production was pretty clean, and there was a good use of panning between the melodies. Overall I'm on board with this!

DragonAvenger got a reaction from HoboKa in OCR03332 - *YES* Breath of Fire 2 'Jaded by Death' *PROJECT*
I found a lot of Breath of Fire 2's soundtrack tone fairly bland, and this track is no exception. I think your approach is definitely a more interesting take of the melody, and it was much more fun to listen to than the source. You added some near embellishments to the melody that I think overall work pretty well here, and I have no fault with the arrangement side of things. I found the transition at 0:45 to be pretty smooth, nice work there. I also think I'm hearing some sort of whispering or moaning on the left side around 2:42. It's a nice touch and could actually be a little louder.
I can't say I'm as on board with the production here. A lot of the synths feel really blocky, which definitely pulls me away from being immersed in the track. To some extent the blockiness is forgivable since the original has some similar sections, but I think here that following that style choice clashes with the other elements you added to your track. The others also mentioned the timing on the choral patch, but I'd also like to make a note that the sample itself really stands out as being fake. Some of the other synths also stand out a bit, but the choral ample is the biggest issue.
I think you're really on the right track here. The arrangement is good, but I think the blockiness and the samples are bringing this down below the bar. I'd love to hear you revise this a bit. Good luck on the rest of the vote!

I can mostly see the issues that the No's are bringing up but I don't think they bring the track below the bar for me. The arrangement is emotive and personalized and overall has a great concept that really brings it together.
All that being said, if it comes down to another pass this track could definitely be that much better, so good luck either way and I hope to hear this on the front page!

Lots of good advice above. I'd like to add a couple things that stood out to me. The first is the lead synth at 0:34 has a really long attack and Abby of the faster movements feel very sloppy as a result. I like the contentedly you have at 1:11 but the synth doesn't sound like it guys into the soundscape very well and actually takes up to much attention at times. The drums are pretty repetitive overall, I'd have loved some more variation. Similarly the kick and the claps sound pretty weak.
The arrangement is pretty close to the source, I think you could be more adventurous here. The counterproductive was a good start and more like that would be even better.
Hope to hear more from you.

The track is definitely br00tal for sure! The super low bass really makes the track growl, and sets an ominous tone to the mix. The arrangement is pretty on point, and I was digging the style change overall.
The compassion is really high here, and the whole track feels squashed as a result. I think this needs to be addressed. Along with that the production on the synth at 1:47 sounds a bit strange compared to the rest of the track. It feels very up front compared to the other parts and not in the same space.
Really cool arrangement, but the production is holding this back at the moment. Hope to hear this one again.
