  1. It's going to be a long time before e-gaming will ever receive the cred of any other sport if all any of the commentators can manage is "what a nice sonic boom" or "nice comeback!" Every time I see a subject like this come up, I'm constantly reminded of MS' E3 press briefing earlier this June when they brought out the casters from ESPN sportscenter. A universe of difference in presentation. Give me potential strategies, history of the players' "careers", etc. Make it interesting. Lose the monotone. I think the biggest problem is that all I'm seeing are a bunch of kids playing pretend. Go to college, get a degree in communications, then come back to the scene. Also, could someone give me a decent answer as to why there's a separate division for women for a video game tourney?
  2. Wasn't there some rambling about adding Rolento and Elena to the roster at one point?
  3. Some kind of patch? New characters maybe? An arcade release for Super? Excited.
  4. Caught the final game while in the air on my flight back home from Disney World. Everyone in the plane(myself included) went nuts when Spain managed to win the cup. Go Spain! History in the making. The Germany - Uraguay match was a much better game to watch though.
  5. It wasn't The Legend of Zelda, since I clearly remember going to Toysrus with my mom when she bought it for my brother on his birthday. I think my first game, or games in this case, was Super Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt.
  6. Well... They might be conceding that 3rd loss today. Of course I'm also of Spanish blood, so I'm rooting for them as well. Whoever wins isn't a big deal to me. I just want them to put on a good show and to beat Netherlands.
  7. Don't get me wrong, it's great that PS3 owners get to play through the game. It's a great game and if I had a PS3, I'd totally be on board. It just feels out of place for this kind of thing to happen anymore with the current generation of hardware. The days of stuff like Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix and Final Fantasy XII: Zodiac whateverthefuck edition should be long gone by now. This is what DLC as a concept was conceived for. I AM the dude who bought Super Street Fighter IV a year after vanilla, and I'm planning on grabbing Continuum Shift a year after Calamity Trigger though, so take that as you will...
  8. Germany, no question. They've been dominating this whole tournament. Spain's barely making it through and when they do it's usually because their opponents are playing terribly.
  9. So this might sound ignorant, but I'm a Starcraft fan but I don't understand why they felt the need to split up the game into 3 separate copies. How much of this is because they actually ARE doing a lot of different things with the story and how much of it is Activision's hand?
  10. It isn't so much Sony's doing as it's what Darkesword already mentioned. They had Microsoft subsidize the development costs through a timed exclusivity deal, and delivered what was essentially an incomplete game. They pulled the same shtick with Eternal Sonata as well. Of course one could argue that the devs had a schedule to stick to and had to leave out a lot of stuff(there's plenty of proof that they did just that all over), but in an era of internet-enabled consoles and DLC, it's pretty stupid that they wouldn't have the foresight to at least throw the 360 owners a bone and offer the additional content as an add-on somewhere down the line. I sure wouldn't have a problem with forking over another 10, 15, or 20 bucks for that. That only makes smart business sense and would do a lot for consumer goodwill, of course if Tales Studio was known for its good business acumen, then they probably wouldn't be near oblivion right now.
  11. I just checked out how much it would cost to build a rig with a dual core 3 ghz cpu, 4 gigs of PC 1333 ram, a GTS 250 with 1 gig of vram, and all the other essential parts(decent PSU, case, HDD, fans, media drives, OS, MB, etc.), and the total was a simple $560, and this set up is no slouch. I'll be ringing you up around the end of August, Prophet.
  12. Bump time. Well it looks like the soundtrack has already been ripped and uploaded to youtube. Go ahead and give it a listen to see if you'll prefer it to some of your own custom stuff. We'll start at the beginning.
  13. Now I just need to spend the green to build a PC that exceeds the minimum specs...
  14. Who cares about the beta when we've got a September 30th world wide release date? http://www.eorzeapedia.com/2010/06/30/final-fantasy-xiv-official-press-release/
  15. Well FFXII made up for that by the fact that it's not about a major villain as much as it's about a war, and the many motives/players within a war, which makes things not so clear cut... Of course that's just the way I see it. Funny thing about FFXIII though is that when I heard that it was being done by the FFX team, I knew in the back of my head that it wasn't going to have a very strong antagonist, and what do you know? I can't really say more than that. I'm currently replaying the game, and I find that while I still feel they could have done more in the game past chap.11, I am enjoying it a lot more, though.
  16. And the Land of The Rising Sun wept bitter tears of defeat. Fucking refs. Paraguay should have had a red card at one point. Oh well... Now it's time for war on the Iberian Peninsula.
  17. So Ryu is the new Ken?
  18. So yeah... Apologies to the Xbox Live people... I kinda got sucked into FFXIII again, but I want to get some matches going! When are we all going to have our epic sessions again?
  19. http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3180142 This is totally happening. EDIT: Ack! Link fixed! Sorry!
  20. Well being that that's all I've seen you do when I see you on Live, maybe I should try the demo out.
  21. If you got that high, you're going to be able to run it just fine. Problem is though that the benchmark they're using apparently isn't finalized as there's still apparently much more optimization and tweaking to be done for the finalized graphics engine. Hell, they're saying it might require less juice. At any rate, an OCR group would be great. They're doing a lot to change up the community tools as well. For one thing, the linkshells are now called companies, and they can apparently level up. Also, not unlike Guild Wars, companies are going to be getting their own "company residences" or some such thing.
  22. The game's been in extended alpha for awhile, but it's apparently entering beta this week or next.
  23. Heaven forbid a game uses the same fantasy races as a game before it. There are only so many variants of pointy-eared people you can create. The same goes for ways to swing a sword, and styles in which to render a forest/jungle. Glad to see you're focused on what matters.
  24. Well things look pretty bleak for a 360 version of FFXIV, as evidenced by the dev team apparently unable to come to an agreement with MS over Live use. Kind of a pity, being that this thing was first revealed years ago on the 360 to begin with. Prophet, it looks like I'll be consulting you in the near future. On a more positive note, 1up has a video up comparing the alpha and new beta builds. While there isn't anything particularly overt in the first half(looks like they turned down the gamma mostly) save for the addition of what seems to be better textures, the battle system/HUD interface looks quite different. Of course being that we're a community of a more musical persuasion, I think I was more interested in the new battle music than anything else.
