That would make sense. But I'm glad they're gone nonetheless. -
OCR TF2: New Server forthcoming - new server IPs and other stuff
Triad Orion replied to Bahamut's topic in General Discussion
Darlos has been around for awhile. I didn't see him doing anything that breaks the rules, but he is paranoid with his flamethrower. But that's a good thing to be as a Pyro, especially if you had spies that were like they were last night. One of them just kept making a fool out of me because I was retarded, so I went Pyro and torched him a bunch. Flamethrowers are *ideal* stress relievers. -
The AI director is a big reason why I'm excited for the game. If it didn't dynamically create foes and instead relied on pre-placement the game would get boring in a hurry unless you're one of those types that loves going for speedruns. Even if you were that type, I don't see that being anywhere near as exciting and fun as Team Fortress 2. But I agree that L4D will not be a TF2 killer. TF2 is too finely balanced and exciting to play to really have something just *kill* it, especially with L4D focusing more explicitly on Co-Op rather than pure, abject Player versus Player combat. I agree with Schwaltzwald that the game would be a good "back up" to TF2, and on the occasion you just want to throw down against the computer with some friends.

Are there any games that play with your phobias?

Someone mentioned the Shadows of the Empire Sewers. Yeah, I can get behind that. The dianogas in the water were creepy, and their growling and snarling didn't help matters. Also the boss? A GIANT DIANOGA?! Yeah, that was unsettling to say the least. -
You don't get zombified if you're defeated in Left 4 Dead. You die. You can be brought back to life by your friends if they find a survivor in a locked closet. It's a strange way to implement extra lives, but it's better than a player sitting out the whole time. And yeah, dying in that situation would be kinda sucky, but if you're playing with your friends, that should inspire you to stick around. Yeah, you can play as the baddies, but you're spawned with some frequency based on what I read. You just have to think and use your head to deal with your opponent and work as a team. Frankly, I think this game has a good chance of surviving where other survival games have failed. It's not a matter of holding out for X amount of time, but rather a get to point A to point B alive. Moreover, the enemies are largely AI controlled, making your basic mooks common and weak like zerglings, so swarms are more possible. Swarms are more intimidating than a handful of zombies respawning on a counter. I for one am looking forward to this game. Wouldn't be opposed to playing it with a few of the OCR people now and then either.

Strange, I'm flipping through the archives right now of this and it seems the ads are gone almost entirely for me. Is anyone else seeing this? -

I have mild arachnophobia. It's not severe in that I don't run away or tense up around any spiders, but if it's large? Yeah. Kinda freaks me right out. So needless to say, any of the games that have *GIANT BLOODY SPIDERS* kinda play on my fear a bit. And of course, every goddamned high fantasy game has giant spiders. It's like, a rule, and I hate it. LoZ: Twilight Princess freaked me out *right good* with its more realistic looking Skulltulas. The ones in OoT were funny looking and didn't bother me, but these were huge realistic looking spiders that somehow *knew how to block sword swings*. The first time I encountered one, I flipped out and swung my Wii Remote like a madman until it died. Though the fear of those particular spiders is gone now, especially considering I've discovered how fun it is to mess with them by making *them* flip out by hitting them in the face with a slingshot bullet or with the gale boomerang. That was fun. Though sometimes the spiders aren't bad, but usually conceptualizing the situation into a more realistic picture in the mind can unnerve me. A good example is in Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones. There are monsters that would be conceptually very scary in reality, like gorgons and zombies. But it's the goddamn giant spiders that are the worst, and it's especially bad when the chapter you first see one involves you rescuing a family from an approaching spider that's threatening to eat them all alive. Again, not scary with in-game graphics, but far worse in your head. -

Atmuh never did anything like that in the admittedly short time period he and I were on the server at the same time. In fact, he really didn't do much of anything to make him annoying at the time. Granted, I think that time was before he really, really got into it. But Atmuh was okay while I saw him in there. Most of the OCR people generally are. -

I SEE WHAT YOU DID THAR. Anyway. Yeah, I support finding out who sprays the pornographic sprays. As before, people who don't pay attention to the posted rules in the server drive me nuts. -

I can almost hear Shariq's iron fist pounding on the table. XD Truthfully, I have a low tolerance for people who don't follow the rules, especially when they're clearly stated on the splash page that appears on every map on startup. So, I'm not opposed to Shariq's methods here. A warning should normally be sufficient to drive the point home, and if it's not, drop the hammer to prove you mean business. *Shrugs* -

Spies are the other contentious point on HLStats, but the flipside about spies is you're a lot more likely to die than a defensive engineer, even if you are a really good spy. Between spy-checking and just plain bad luck, there's a good chance you'll be discovered and get reamed. Yes, the best spies don't often have this problem, but not everyone who plays Spy is good at it. Point spamming that way is rougher than doing it as an Engineer, who I might add, get points every time they destroy one of your Sappers. That being said, odds are you'll make a profit as a Spy over your deaths, but the Spy is such a high-risk class that them getting more points makes some sense to me. A tweak or two wouldn't be bad, per se, but I think the Spy issue's a lot less ridiculous than the Engineer one. -
Actually, I believe somewhere Inafune stated that the Legends titles were his favorites. MegaMan from Legends, Servbots, and Tron Bonne have cameoed in a lot of Capcom's other games, so I think Inafune really loves the Legends series. Last I heard, he's actually been trying his damndest to get a Legends 3 going, but the Capcom brass won't have it considering the Legends series underperformed in sales. Rumor has it he's trying to stockpile enough cash to make one eventually. And if Mega Man 9 performs well in sales, who knows what the Capcom brass might let him do. But I agree. I got started on Legends in the N64 version, and while I know you don't like it, Nekofrog, it did get me hooked on the series. I never found a copy of the original Legends for the PS1, but I did get my hands on Legends 2 and haven't regretted it. The characters were great and the games were a blast to play. My only complaint is how utterly short they were. Yes, there was lots of exploring, but the story itself was very small in scope comparatively speaking. Good times. And I gotta get my hands on Mega Man 9 now that it's out.

Granted, offensive harrying with your sentry can be difficult if you can't get established. The Level One sentries get eaten alive by soldiers and demomen, so it's hard to have that forward cannon stay up unless you play it more defensively than aggressively. But still, I don't like how Engineer points work either. They should most definitely get points for when their sentries kill people, but as for building them? They get more points from building a sentry than you do getting a standard kill on someone around your point total (Or at least that's how it used to be). It's kinda BS-y, especially considering defensive engineers aren't usually in a position to *lose* those points. If you're a competent defensive engineer (which isn't really that hard), you shouldn't be getting killed much, so those points aren't being redistributed well. If the engineer's point gaining can be tweaked, I'm all for it. -
Seeing people on this forum who like Ed, Edd, n Eddy makes me elated. Glad to see I'm not the only one who loved that show here. Such offbeat, mature, absurdist humor with some great visual gags. Loved the show's sense of comedic timing.

Maybe this makes me a loser to the competitive types, but *absolutely* do I like winning on a lucky crit (or item drop in Brawl). If you're playing with the right people, it gives you something to laugh about between the two of you. Because if you get mad about it, the game has become SERIOUS BUSINESS. Really, don't take a game that's meant to be fun *too seriously.* Just roll with it and move on. Hell, it's a running gag between me and Bahamut who gets to eat the critical rocket first. And truthfully? That's a good time. XD -

Damn right he is. That was a *blast.* I probably got four or five of those ubers. It was totally freaking awesome. Thanks to him, I got my best round ever as a Soldier. On one of those lives I broke 2,600 damage dealt, which may not be a lot to some of the best soldier players out there, but for me it was a new record. That whole thing could NOT have gone better. -

The idea of the marketing is to just put name recognition out there in this case. You may not go out and *buy* the game because of a 10 second ad, but you'll remember the name of the game. And perhaps, sometime after that, you'll remember it when you want to go buy something and you'll pick it up on impulse. If that's the case, the ad did its job. That's what marketers think about it, anyways. ...Though to be perfectly honest? That ad at the beginning DOES suck. I hate it too. And I also hate that more than half of the video is dedicated to advertisements. I understand the necessity of putting ads on there to keep the site afloat, but *come on*. That's just unreasonable. If they're having this much problem generating traffic for the rest of the site, maybe they need to *change the bloody content.* Just a thought. -
Wow. Just wow. Adult Swim's Saturday action block got hit hard last week, moving the English premieres of Code Geass and Moribito to like, 5AM, and now canceling Toonami entirely? I'm beginning to think this is over Cartoon Network's head, coming from someone at Turner itself. This is pretty ugly for anyone who enjoyed watching anime on TV. I haven't been a fan of Toonami in years, but this comes as a surprise. I was under the impression that was doing pretty well in its bracket. Foster's cancellation comes as a surprise as well. I figured that show was largely well liked. Hell, I knew a lot of teenagers and young adults who found the show hilarious for its offbeat sense of humor. Who knew? Though, on a side note? On that "goodbye" video someone posted from Toonami, I appreciate that Steve Blum ended it with "Bang", as a tribute to Cowboy Bebop. XD

Well, in reality, it IS entirely possible that the Joker gave them the detonators for their own boats. In fact, I think that's exactly what he did; it's just no one pulled the trigger. I'm actually glad they *didn't* detonate either of the boats because it may have pushed an already dark movie over the edge. That being said, I'm not a fan of shaky-cam or quick-cutaways (Anything Michael Bay related) in fight scenes either. A little bit of it here and there might serve to spice up the action, but by overdoing it, everything becomes cluttered.

I like 2 a lot. 3 is probably the better game overall, considering it has a better mix of useful weapons (aside from the ungodly powerful Metal Blade), but personally, 2 is my favorite. I like the bosses, I love the music, and it's just a lot of fun in general. Yeah, it's a bit antiquated even compared to Mega Man 3 and that Dragon boss and Crash Bomb puzzle are retardedly cheap. But in spite of it, 2 is a game I truly enjoy. Oddly enough, I've beaten Mega Man 3, but never Mega Man 2. I blame the damn dragon. XD Also, I Wanna Be The Guy is pure masochism by comparison to ANY Mega Man game. Period. The game is so stupidly, retardedly hard that it's hilarious. Well, that and some of the traps are just so out there and random you can't help but laugh.

For the sake of argument, there are several in the Expanded Universe, most notably Admiral Daala and Ysenne Isard. Both wore standard Imperial uniforms, though Isard occasionally wore a red uniform rather than a black or gray one. Female TIE pilots weren't unheard of either (though rare) and they wore standard Imperial uniforms. That said, I found your post hilarious and oddly truthful given a lot of the visual media Star Wars has put out. XD
-
I was wondering this too, considering everything in the goddamn Imperial Navy is *supposed* to be standardized. Hell, most pilots and regular flight personnel don't even go by their *names* officially. Well, it's just stupid pandering and misguided attempts to pick up sex appeal. You'd think *someone* at LucasArts would have common sense enough to try to stick to the canon, but whatever.
