VGM in timesigs other than 3/4 and 4/4
WarpstarRider replied to Level 99's topic in General Discussion
Skimmed through the thread and didn't see "Summoned Beast Battle" from FFX mentioned, which is in 5/4. Also I recall "Gnosis" from Xenosaga Episode I being at least partially in 5/4, but I'm not entirely sure. There was also a dungeon theme from the first Star Ocean that was in 7/8 or something, but I can't remember which. -

NEZplug lets you specify titles and timings for individual tracks in .m3u playlists, using a special extended playlist format. You can find an explanation in the readme file. -
I'm 24, almost 25, and I can hear pretty clearly up through 17k. At 18k, I can hear the tone for a bit, then it kinda drops out and blends in with the background noise. After that, I'm not sure. Those things gave me a headache.

How are those save batteries doing?
WarpstarRider replied to Avatar of Justice's topic in General Discussion
I haven't tried any of my old games in a long time. I remember checking out my Pokemon Silver cart a couple years ago; the clock was shot, but the data was still there. I don't think I tried saving the game again, though. I haven't checked any of my Gen. I carts (2 Red, 1 Blue, 1 Yellow) in probably over 5 years, though. My copy of Kirby Super Star probably came with a bad battery or something; it constantly erased my files at random from the day I got it back in 1996 or whenever. -

I might be in the market for a new computer soon. I'll have to keep this in mind. -

Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver
WarpstarRider replied to Dopple Boppler's topic in General Discussion
No, there never was an official soundtrack album released for G/S. There are a few unofficial rips out there, though. (I made one myself, but it's not very well-circulated.) -
Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver
WarpstarRider replied to Dopple Boppler's topic in General Discussion
I just hope they do a good job with the music. And that it gets an actual soundtrack release; it's a shame that the original G/S is the only generation not to get one. -
Rant alert: game saves this gen suck!

The worst thing about the "memory card era" was the unreliability of third-party cards. I lost so much progress because of third-party memory cards that would randomly wipe themselves out. -
CHIPAMP: PSF (PS1 & PS2 music) support
WarpstarRider replied to Moogle!'s topic in Site Issues & Feedback
Actually, NEZplug++ can do this. Open up the "File Info" window while the GBS is playing and click the "Channel Mask" button. The row of buttons labeled "DMG" controls the GBS channels. -
Why is this site so scared of actually reviewing songs?
WarpstarRider replied to jfs_87's topic in General Discussion
Not everyone reacts the same to negative reviews. Sometimes they're accepted or ignored, and other times, the thread blows up because one or two people didn't think it was "OMG THE BEST SONG EVER!!!1" like everyone else. That doesn't seem to happen as much as it used to, though. Still, I just don't think it's worth the potential hassle to post negative reviews. Not that I've ever been much of a reviewer, anyway. -

Well, if you want to be technically accurate, the expansion chips would be pretty much out of the question. The FDS expansion is part of the Famicom Disk System (of course) and could only be used by FDS games. And since the concept is for an NES game, this is out. The MMC5 may be a better possibility, but still pretty unlikely. Nintendo themselves didn't use it that often (Koei, Konami, and HAL seemed to use it most frequently). The biggest problem, though, is the fact that the NES didn't support the expansion chips' extra sound channels; only the Japanese Famicom supported this. So, in short, to answer the question "What would SMW sound like if we had played it on the NES?", you'd have to stick to the basic 5 sound channels only.

OCR01465 - Sonic & Knuckles "Lover Reef"
WarpstarRider replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I'm sorry, but I don't like the vocals in this mix. They don't work well together at all, and in my opinion, the vocal style doesn't really fit the intended mood of the song. I just can't get anything out of it. It did get the source tune stuck in my head for a few days, though. -
OCR00865 - Super Mario Bros. 3 "aquacadence"
WarpstarRider replied to DarkCecil13's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Wow. I can't think of anything that hasn't already been said. It's amazing how a fun little NES tune can be transformed into an grand orchestral number. I love orchestral mixes, and this is now definitely among my favorites (along with stuff like "Pilot the Yggdrasil" and Rise of the Star's "Dreams of Valor"). -
OCR01451 - Final Fantasy "Finally Home"
WarpstarRider replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I love this one. The 'Warriors of Light' remix did a great job of transforming the original track into an uplifting rock theme, but this one just takes that to a whole new level. ...But I can't decide which I like better! -

I can't get enough of this one lately. It just seems to grab me and not let go. Great work.
