  1. It is that theme. You are correct in a sense it sounds like it is in a Minor key. The melody is almost verbatim. There is one big difference between this source and the main theme. The arpeggio is not in any apparent key: http://sonic-elements.com/cryins.png The 1st 4 bars contain F, F#, G, G#. The track derives significant emotion from this. It makes working with the track difficult. This arpeggio is present in the 2nd half main theme: http://sonic-elements.com/main.png However in the main theme, these notes are played extremely fast, decreasing the apparent dissonance to the human ear. Also they are accompanied by apparent chord changes. My theory skills are beginner level. Remixing Cry in Sorrow while maintaining the emotion of the original is a big challenge. Hopefully it will help me to improve in this area. It is one of the main reasons I chose it as my track and why this competition is so appealing to me personally. To help improve apparent weaknesses I have as a musician.
  2. I don't care if I am double posting but this is tough! Beatrix is in 3/4 and Cry in Sorrow has no discernible key. The whole riff is based around 4 notes all within a half step of each other. Good luck and god speed!
  3. Pop-Fiction on GameTrailers recently did an excellent video on the Michael Jackson connections to Sonic 3: http://www.gametrailers.com/full-episodes/zo88qk/pop-fiction-episode-39--sonic-3--michael-jackson
  4. Yup source is Cry in Sorrow. BTW I've never done this compo before so don't fret. Also I just had a wisdom tooth pulled and I am leaving on a flight for Sunday. So I gotta finish my track by Saturday. Best of Luck!
  5. Oh that's sweet, thanks dude :nicework:

  6. I like the idea of 3 groups 8 people. The finals could be the winner of each group. The final would be 3 people 3 sources against each other. That would be epic!
  7. 1. Cry in Sorrow FF IV ( )This always struck as Kain's theme. It played whenever he betrayed someone. If that doesn't count then this is my adjusted top 3. 2. Shadow FF6 3. Laguna FF8 ___ 1. Shadow FF6 2. Laguna FF8 3. Cloud FF7 Quick question there will be a week, where I am will be out of town for 7 days. The schedule is alternating weeks right? So we would have 2 weeks for each remix?

  10. Love the track. So chill and groovin, excellent variations and originality. Track never gets stale or predictable.
  11. String stabs in the beginning could use a little boost. :30 in the original here there is more apparent chanting. Taking 2000Hz down a couple db's on the metallic percussion should help balance this out a bit. It's much better.
  12. Downloading Secret of Mana and Final Fantasy tracks for me. On the exact same places. Circa 2005.
  13. Would be an honor as long as you credit them in them in the write-up: http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02380/
  14. Aighty, so I finally redid some of the track in hopes the source usage is better represented. The 1st section is different. Includes the source in 1 more 4 bar section. Also the chords are varied in this section and few others to adhere closer to the original. Biggest change, is a brand spankin new breakdown. I slowed the source way down, and then did some noodling on top of it using the motif from the source as the basis for the noodling. Also the old breakdowns have been reworked to use the source tune instead of chords. 10/19 - not mastered http://sonic-elements.com/music/Contract_Redo.mp3
  15. Awesome trailer. BTW Brandon really pulled through on this project. He deserves any and all credit/praise that will come his way.
