  1. I feel like you are jumping to one distinct conclusion. There are different appropriate RMS levels for every genre of music. Frankly different RMS levels work better for different listening devices as well. There is no 1 level to rule them all. it is all a balancing act. Also there is a scientific reason why people prefer sounds with higher RMS levels. When the loudness is over a certain threshold we release serotonin. One of the scientific reasons people love live music. Compressors and Limiters are not always used to make a sound louder. They can also be used to make a sound quieter. Hence making other sounds appear louder and more dynamic. They can also be user artistically to bring out different timbres in the sound. Also another note, most of our best compressors came out 50+ years ago. So the argument of better compressors = greater loudness is null and void. To be honest people should learn how to use compressors and limiters in a more appropriate manner.
  2. Holy balls this remix is amazing. Just feels like something that carries the soul of the original but improves on it. This is a medley that actually works. Great mixing btw!
  3. Hooray FFT! What an excellent song choice for the instrumentation and your style. Love the ideas here. Some soft strings to break up the texture could have potentially been a cool idea. Will be enjoying this one for years! Hooray for Stevo for he's a jolly good fellow!
  4. OMFG just watched the video! Roy...tears downpouring
  5. S1 v3 Tip: Highlight multiple channels in the mixer. Drag one plug-in to a channel. Whammo that plugin just got loaded on every channel. You can also clear out all plugins on multiple channels using the same method. Placement of "Sends" getting out of hand on individual channels? Shift Click on "Sends" header to reposition it vertically. Obvious one, but super super nice. Double click on any track in the arrange page to bring you to that track in the mixer. Want to copy all of the inserts or sends from one channel to the next? Hold Alt/Option and click and drag.
  6. Awesome observation of the usability paradigm employed the developers. The only piano I have ever felt was truly terrible was Ableton Live's. Each one takes time.
  7. Haven't used FL in awhile. Used FL for prob 3-4 years in the past. Used S1 for over 2 1/2 years now. There is no advantage Live or Bitwig have when it comes to features that make it easier to make repeat pattern music. S1 has the features to work fast in repeat pattern music the features just come in different flavors. Now if you are performing live that is a different story. IMO S1's piano roll strengths: 1. Ghost notes and ability to edit/view any channels you want on the fly. S1 does this better than anyone else. 2. Custom Macros. Haven't gotten into this yet. But there is some pretty cool stuff. 3. Basic editing and selecting can be about 90% the same. In the piano sroll elect the Pencil as your default tool. Then hold Command on a Mac (option on Windows?) to switch to the pointer tool. 4. Groove quantize. Easily rip grooves from any source and apply them at will. 5. Lock piano roll to specific scale. This is really nice when working in a specific scale. You do not have to worry about entering in the wrong note and just get on with music making. 6. Duplicate Shared (shift D) Duplicate clips that share the same information. Open any of these clips and make your edits. These edits will then automatically be made across all of the duplicate shared clips. This is similar to FL's old block style patterns and an essential tool for repeat pattern music.

  9. Really cool! Sounds like a mix between old anime music and harry potter.
  10. Yeah it was brutal the first play through. Wicked fun though. I am going bike or ATV with tiny wheels to get the hang of things first. Big Blue was my favorite new track. IMO the tracks on this new DLC are so much better than the previous one.
  11. Nice Seb! Great blend of lofi synth sounds and emotive performances.
  12. The main thread: http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=44090
  13. They do one pirate and one ninja. Easy grass roots marketing for that DLC. the ninja could by Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden.
  14. Put in votes for Geno and Isaac (Golden Sun) thus far. Geno would be very hard since no one really knows if it is Nintendo or Square who owns his rights.
  15. If a song is upbeat with lots of synths but no kick drum is that "Possibly Techno?" I mean kick drums are so overrated all they do is muddy up tracks.
  16. Re-rendered all percussion, checked them they look good now: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9YqImvnvhrTLXdGaWpOejFLZGM/view?usp=sharing
  17. Weird, took a look at the them. The files are fine in the beginning and then all of the sudden the kicks come in on everything through in the 2nd half. Will take a look at it. Sorry about that, have no idea why that would happen.
  18. EDIT: master link includes all files https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9YqImvnvhrTLXdGaWpOejFLZGM/view?usp=sharing
  19. Didn't see your edit. I'll re-render the bass stems. This was done in Reason v5 before everything had its own mixer channels. Was bound to screw up trying to render 60 tracks that had a whole mess of routings.
  20. Thanks man excited to hear your interpretation. The key IMO is panning, LP / HP filters, and reverb. None of the elements in this song sound really good on their own it is all about layering and spacing. If I have time I might do a mix of the track using plugins instead of just Reason stock devices.
  21. Here ya go: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9YqImvnvhrTLXdGaWpOejFLZGM/view?usp=sharing Original track: http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02380 Been wanting to render out these stems forever. Please feel free to practice your mixing and mastering on these. The original track was done in Reason v5. It does not have any fancy super expensive samples. Just lots of layering and automation. It consists of 60 tracks total. For these stems I removed all EQ, compression, delay, reverb, and panning. I kept the automation that was part of the performance. Also kept basic FX that were part of the sound such as distortion, phasers, and unison. If you do something with these stems I would to hear it. Cheers, ~Shaun
  22. General MIDI sounds are also teh best! They sound more like the SNES than any BIG NAME library. To be honest first and foremost the track needs to make me feel something. I need to experience a connection or an emotional response. Without that everything else doesn't matter. With it it makes up for a multitude of perceived short comings. One thing I have always found hurts a remix is when it is too predictable. I like to be pleasantly surprised.
  23. Hey guys n gals, put together a Kick sample library. It has tuned and toned bottoms and tops. It is only $5 and should help solve one of the biggest problems in any track. Where your kick drum is out of tune with the rest of your song. Have trouble getting the bass and the kick to sit right with each other? This will help more than any careful EQ'ing. It is also significantly easier. Get it Here: http://www.sonic-elements.com/main-kicks-v1.html For 20% off any item add Coupon to shopping cart: customer Details: $5.00 USD 1152 Total Combinations 24 Diverse Kick Tops 48 Tuned + Labelled Kick Bottoms 4 Kick Bottoms for every note All sounds come in 0db and -6db versions 24-bit + 44.1k files
