Confatulations! ...seriously congrats though

The composition ideas are really good. The instrumentation and sound design need a ton of work. Also needs to be arranged into a full song. At least 3 mins long. Def has potential!

OCR02517 - Chrono Trigger "Islands in the Sky"
avaris replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Thank you so much. This means a lot to me. Zeal was one of my favorite tunes as a kid. I remember replaying the game just to get to Zeal and listen to this track. -
Agreed on voicing your ensembles correctly makes a big difference. Here is a video that will show a super simple technique with just some panning and HP LP filters that are on any stock EQ:

OverClocked ReMix Design ?'s and Issues
avaris replied to Liontamer's topic in Site Issues & Feedback
Really liking the new style! Indifferent about the round logos. -
Got Cloud today. Beat all four of my level 50 amiibos with him. Beat my Marth amiibo for only the 2nd or 3rd time ever. Cloud is lethal. Really fun to play with. Took a stock off of level 50 Link without taking a single hit. I am just an OK smash player too. Win rate on for glory is 33%. I am also super bummed Isaac didn't get in the game. Could care less about Bayonetta to be perfectly honest. Can see why she would be a good character in general.

OCR00333 - Radical Dreamers "Intonation"
avaris replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Ah the great Radical Dreamers mix flood of 2001. Such an amazing source tune. Love the guitar noodling and little zeppelin motifs and licks throughout. Would actually be pretty cool to take this or the same idea and make a trip hop mix out of it. -
BTW gals and guys there are 16 remixes that do not have a single review! That needs to change.

OCR01525 - Chrono Trigger "The Final Battle"
avaris replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Some really cool ideas here. Would love to hear this updated with some modern day samples. Feel the writing could have stood out alot more if the instruments were panned harder. As of now everything is standing on top of each other. Good decisions on writing to keep the energy up throughout. Great blending of all of the source tunes. -
OCR00559 - Final Fantasy IV "Rydia (Clean Mix)"
avaris replied to orkybash's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Can't believe I never reviewed this in the past. One of my all time favorite old school remixes. Reminds me of an excellent early 90's RnB track or laid back movie theme. Excellent use of the source tune to create the vibe. -
OCR01065 - Phantasy Star II "Dezoris Winter"
avaris replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Great vocals in the intro. Really set the tone for the mix. Actually wish this had more GL ambient sounds mixed in to give a but more tonal variety. But per usual the writing is excellent overall. -

Spitfire has a 30% discount for students or people who work at a University. With no commercial restrictions. Makes things way cheaper if you can get it. -
finished Final Fantasy 7 - Fanfare (inspired remix)
avaris replied to Inspired's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Some really nice sound design and ideas. One major problem is the pacing and arrangement of the track. It is too sparse and too slow to keep the listener's attention. The track also never really takes off. The instrumentation tends to point to a more climactic moment in the song. All the basics are there to make a really good and memorable track. It just needs to go up a level in energy. -
I like the Myst the Last Message track but can't find a midi. I completely suck balls when it comes to playing things by ear. Might have to give this one a try. Although the Myst Main Theme might work too.
-
Oooh nice track! Will have to try it out. Might make 30-40 second mockup of each track and see which one works the best. I have the basic instrumentation all there. Just need to find the right source tune to work into everything. Btw check your inbox.

Looking for possible source tunes to make a song like: http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR01461 Some I have been looking at: ICO - Continue <---If anyone has sheet music or midi of this would be highly appreciated! Lufia - Fortress of Doom (Last Duel) FF VII - Crazy Motorcycle Any other ideas/thoughts?

Don't know when you were born. I was born in 1985, and to me growing up MegaMan is synonymous with Nintendo. Classic MegaMan especially feels right at home in Smash. It is a bit weird that Cloud has never appeared in a game on a Nintendo system. However I am still glad to see him. Would have loved to of seen Kain from FFIV but that would have been to obscure for a lot of people.

1. I am frankly not motivated for several reasons. It takes time to fill out an open ended question. We could probably get way more reviews if people could fill out a few basic ratings in a form. Quick ex. Creativity 1-7 stars; Arrangement 1-7 stars, Sound Quality 1-7 Stars If I had that and an option to write an open comment I would write/give more feedback. 2. It has been said before but at a basic there is NO REWARD for posting reviews. In any modern community you need a reward system that targets different motivations. If you want to get super nerdy the Human Computer Interaction community has tons of papers and research into these exact types of system with plenty of startling numbers. The community itself is too large and too over saturated. Humans only gather in groups of a certain size. Back in the day there were less people on the site so it was easier to establish relationships. The best relationships I personally ever made on the site were doing projects. Creating sub communities within OCR that contribute back to the overall goal of the site are necessary. Here is the presentation from Google about sociability. It contains some helpful info that has been relevant for thousands of years. Just some food for thought: http://www.businessinsider.com/heres-the-presentation-that-inspired-google-2011-7?op=0#-43 Looking forward to the new site changes that will help OCR scale and build towards it future.

Logic is so much bigger and better than Garageband. I have used Studio One for a couple years now. It is an amazing DAW. Extremely fast intuitive workflow. The included plugins are OK. Enough to get you posted here. You need to find what DAW fits best with you. Highly recommended to demo and try out a bunch. However it is going to be very hard to find one that gives more bang for your buck than Logic.
-
Exactly this. Logic for $200 is damn near impossible to beat value wise. Especially now that it comes with Alchemy. Just do yourself a favor and go with Logic.

What's a reasonable price for my Wii U?
avaris replied to AngelCityOutlaw's topic in General Discussion
Try for $250 or $300 at first and see what happens. Unless you need to sell it quickly. -
From the OP: "But the problem of this phenomenon is a continuously worsening of the audio quality of soundtracks - 'cause of the increasing compression or even just by cutting or emasculating the peaks with limiting." AND "Maybe we don't even need any compressors/limiters for creating the best soundtracks if we just edit and mix/master them right" Where and how frequencies are distributed based upon different listening devices is crucial. Not once did I remotely mention mastering/mixing to the lowest common denominator. Any music or sound should be tested on multiple listening devices. Imposing Loudness standards for TV and/or Radio is way more plausible than other mediums. BTW Limiters have been around a looong time: http://www.recordingmag.com/resources/resourceDetail/109.html
