  1. IMO just use some instruments that are native to that country and should get the point across. I got tons of percussion and samples of japanese instruments. I mainly got flute and plucked styled sounds. If you arrange it I can throw my samples over it no problem. That way you can just concentrate on writing a strong arrangement.
  2. Hey Chris been meaning to review this. This is def weird and out there. But extremely well done. For instance I finished listening to the tracks late last night after play super metroid for awhile. I started listening to the songs again and was like DAMN this would be a perfect fit for metroid games, no kidding. I really enjoyed how a good portion of the songs had some structure while there was the occasional unexpected moment. Some nice compositions all over the place with sound design to match the feeling. Something this avant-garde might not be my cup o’ tea but IMO the songs accomplish what they set out to do. And most importantly they portray a strong sense of emotion.
  3. I saw the promo CD and shite my pants. I really enjoy all of middle eastern influences. They are not overbearing but give the song a really nice dimension. Def my fav song by you so far dude. All of the little things and attention to detail and song structure really add up in the end. Gonna be listening to it for awhile.
  4. Haha wow you got me fooled. Awesome, if only Kefka had a twin...
  5. Sweet been waiting for this. Hurry up and upload the damn things so I can pay some money for these!
  6. Oooh g-tar wankery at it's best! I agree with Anso about the drums but the synth and guitar soloes are executed way too good for those to detract from the mix. Glad to hear some clearly defined break down sections for such a high energy song, gives the ears some time to recover. Awesome stuff dude!
  7. QFT This songs owns. It tooks a few listens to get into it but after that I've been listening to it for months and months. Drum work and synth programming is pretty sick as usual with lots of variation and nothing feeling out of place.
  8. Lovin the blending of genres here. The concepts and execution are really slick. My fav part is def the intro. Some of the basic ideas and soundscape are repeated throughout but all of the change ups and variations keep it fresh. Hope to see you two collab again you dudes really create a an awesome when making musiks.
  9. I really enjoyed Dev's FFVII track. This track might not carry as much 'mood' as his other track but it is still a very chill piece. Wish the guitar was a real acoustic. The drum work is very simple with lots of little glitchy things goin on. Since it is in the background it keeps the mood goin really nice. Def a nice laid back track to chill to with a very mellow feel to it.
  10. SO I am sitting in my office and I look out the window and per usual the skies of new england are grey. Then I turn on this mix and damn it fits the mood perfectly. This type of song might not be for everyone, but damn for those who like laid back tracks DO NOT MISS THIS ONE. Excellent mood setting through minimalist elements. Simple sound design that blends and supports each other nicely. Really enjoy all of the subtle elements that are introduced throughout.
  11. Haha no I found a different one...no beer hat this time.
  12. This songs kick ass...seriously. FX, drums, overall ambience and blending of different elements is FTW. Congrats dude been waiting to see this on here for awhile.
  13. Gotta agree with OA. For a mix from 2001 this still holds up well today sound quality wise. It def captures the feel of the original. The synth bass at 1:28 was a welcome addition to the soundscape, gave a nice sense of groove. Per usual mp's down tempo mixes are a nice relaxing blend of various elements that stay true to the feel of the originals.
  14. I should have the remastered finished version of Requeim in either this weekend or by next wednesday def. I got a picture finally too I'll send that to oa.
  15. Ok so for some Reason haha...I started messing around with some cable routings in an attempt to make some cool rhythmic effects using loops and pads. It just one loops and one synth playing chords. And lots o' FX trickery and automation. RNS (4.0 only sorry ) http://hosting.thasauce.net/users/avaris/BEAT%20VOCODE%20EXAMPLE.rns MP3 DEMO http://hosting.thasauce.net/users/avaris/Beat%20Vocode%20Example.mp3 No deadline or anything. Just mess around have fun and see what you come up with based off this small idea. Also any feedback on whether or not you peeps like the sound of this?
  16. Haha remember this from PRC. Awesome source tune from a completely unknown game. The 70's style guitar is a perfect fit for the source tune. Remember when I initially heard this and thought it was awesome style choice for the source. Enjoyed the synth lead as it allow the rhythm guitar to be more apparent in the soundscape.
  17. I really enjoyed the overall vibe these piece had. The bassline entering at :44 was def my favorite part. Def a nice track to chill too. It has enough of little elements to carry the song all the way through and warrant multiple listens. I would have like to either of seen a more defined break out section or some ambient sound design. That is more of a personal preference. The sound design def conveys the feeling of the song well, the glitches are used tastefully and in the correct situations.
  18. No problemo dude. I'm sure more than half of us myself included are in the same exact situation right now! Oh yeah guess all the projs got moved to the Projs thread. EDIT: Ahhh I see new sub-forum cool.
  19. Nice lovin the guitar at 1:43 and 3:23. IMO the lead guitar in some of solo sections could use a small boost in volume.
  20. Love this song. To be honest I'm not the biggest fan of this genre at all but this one stands out. The funniest thing is if you have this to someone not from OCR they'd think it's a love song. Relating the lyrics to mario kart f'n priceless. Congrats dude this kicks ass.
  21. Yo Brad I sent you the link for the forums. Check out the updated track list from there. If there is a track already taken that you are interested let me know and we prob work something out. Blue Laguna has the full OST available. There are midis out there for every track too. Some aren't on vgmusic but we've managed to track em down.
  22. Reuben was and is an incredible musician. His music always swept me away to another world. The amount of emotion he put into his composition, arrangement, and performance is some of the best I have ever heard in my entire life. For being such an incredible musician he was always extremely humble. I can honestly say I will be listening to Reuben's songs for years and years to come.
