  1. Going on vacation until the 4th, hope you have an awweeesssooooooommeee week

  2. Hey dude, I hoped to catch you on AIM but I guess that's a no go. Anyway, I'm going on vacation for a week, so hope you have a great time! See ya when I get back, you owe me a WIP when I do ;-)

    Cheers :)

  3. In terms of the capability for the title to serve as a sexual metaphor, this is one of the greatest remixes of all time.
  4. A slight change of plans here; I'm going on vacation until the 4th or the 5th and I don't know how frequent my internet access is going to be, so I'm moving the deadline back 5 days from the initial date. PLEASE try to have at least 50% of your overall workload (if it's just one song claimed, then a blue WIP will suffice) finished by the time I get back. Thanks, and best of luck to you all! If anything urgent comes up, Flexstyle has my phone number and can text/call me, so just bug him if you REALLY need to get in touch with me Otherwise, I'll see you all when I get back!
  5. I'm getting ready to go to bed so I'll just take your word that the source usage checks out here, haha The samples/instrument sounds are a bit of a mixed bag; it starts off with some weaker harp/strings, which didn't give me very high expectations for the track. It got a lot better from there, thankfully - I can't tell how much of the guitar is sequenced and how much is played live, but the acoustic guitar is extremely cool sounding and I think the electric guitar is passable, but not exceptional. The trumpet sample is a little weaker but still okay, I think. Your synth choices are nice The arrangement is cool, the way you mixed synth elements and acoustic ones gives a very unique Western-esque feel to this mix, and overall I really like what you've done here. In fact, I'm inclined to say that, despite some slightly weaker samples, that you might have a chance at getting this posted. I'd recommend doing what you can to at least fix up the harp and the strings in the introduction, personally, but you might be able to skate by without doing that. Commendable work, I'd wait to hear from halc on this before you ship it off to the judges, but I like what I'm hearing here
  6. The mix overall needs a volume boost, the master seems so quiet to me. Around 1:20 it finally feels like the soundscape becomes a bit more full and fleshed-out. Personally, I would try to achieve a thicker-sounding soundscape earlier in the song, or else you risk losing peoples' attention early on in the song. There's some other points when things just sound thin, so even if you're not going all-out with the instrumentation, you need to find some way to fill out the soundscape with pads or more EQing/balancing to the instruments you've already got. I would highly advise changing that piano toward the end of the song to a synth or something else, because the sequencing on it is not realistic at all. It sounds like a synth part was written and then a piano sample was slapped onto it instead :\ Another issue I had was the D&B loop - it fits the song nicely, but you need to switch it up from time to time or it starts to grow predictable and boring. Mess around with chopped up loops or different drum fills would REALLY help you out here Honestly, I think this has the potential to get to OCR level, it's just going to require some effort to tighten up the proudction/mastering/mixing, fix some of the sound choices that come off as unrealistic, and vary up the arrangement/instruments a bit. Good work so far though, I like the genre adaptation and think you've got potential here
  7. My biggest gripe with this mix is that it feels like a perpetual buildup towards something that it never really reaches. I think the lack of a driving, pounding set of drums is the biggest reason for this, but in addition, there's very rarely any musical elements taking center stage. Your soundscape sounds pretty squashed and not fleshed out, especially with the backing instruments, which just sound weak. More EQing on that end of things and possibly an overall voulume boost to those elements might do you some good so you get more of a balance between your leads and your accompaniment track. In all honesty, I think most of the sound choices here are pretty bland, which isn't doing your concept any favors. For the record, I think you've got a very interesting idea with this mix that sets it apart from a lot of other mixes of the same source, so I commend you for that. However, if you're looking to submit to OCR you need a lot more work on your overall production & synth design. More appropriate drums for this genre are pretty much a necessity as well. Without them, I can't really tell whether your song is building up, breaking down, or reaching peak energy at any given point, it all feels lacking in direction. Perhaps some more expansion on the arrangement in general would be good, your mix is pretty short considering how little time you spend with a dominant lead playing the melody. I hope this doesn't discourage you, I think you've got a neat concept that just needs a lot of polishing to get to a state where it'd be good for OCR. Keep at this one, I wouldn't give up on it by any means
  8. Sounds like a plan, just shoot me a PM when you have the MP3 up and I'll review it for you
  9. Flexstyle to the rescue! He sprung a remix of Arich's Boss theme from the GBA soundtrack on me out of nowhere, finishing it in just a day. It offers a nice hard-hitting counterpoint to his more chilled-out Hot Pursuit remix, with some really killer guitar work by Paul Capps, too! And that means... 20 WAVs! IT'S PREVIEW TIME! So, basically, check the first post for all the goodies, including a title banner, signatures that you can proudly (or shamefully?) display to advertise the project, a few pieces of preview art from TheMaverickk and the main course, a 14-minute preview video that myself and Cody have been slaving over for days now. All this and more can be found in the first post right now, so check it out and enjoy! Please let us know what you think, we've worked really hard to get this all ready for you guys so we'd appreciate getting some feedback, good or bad, on the project so far. Plus, I'm sure the artists would love to know if you liked their tracks, so don't shy away from voicing your opinions! Cheers!
  10. Your email reminded me a lot of this guy's work: http://www.27bslash6.com/
  11. vv Ooh, foreshadowing!

  12. ... Done. At least, I think it's done. I still need to run it by a few folks to check for errors and figure out how to upload to a hosting site that can handle a 230 MB, 14 minute video (and that's rendering with crap quality!) Just wanted to let you all know that I can release the video almost immediately once the next WAV comes in. So project artists, you know what to do
  13. Just wanted to let you know that me and Cody are still hard at work at the extended video trailer, which should be ready to post immediately (or not too long after) when the next WAV is turned in All together, the preview will contain 8 minutes of remixes and 16 songs total, plus a TON of video content that we've been hard at work recording just for the preview. I can't wait to unleash this all on you guys when the time is right It's gonna be awesome.
  14. And Sole Signal sweeps in with a .WAV for... Treetop Tumble? Yup, some of you might be familiar with his WIP on the Workshop forums from a long time ago, but he's since polished/finished the arrangement and submitted it to the project! Yay!
  15. Hah! Me and Cody have been slaving away all night at the preview video for Otakon, but it's done now! I'll be able to show you fools as soon as the last 2 WAVs get turned in (or, if you're attending Otakon you might get to see it earlier than that.) Tomorrow I'm really going to start plugging away at the extended preview, which should be about 8-12 minutes long if all goes as planned I think the videos so far are looking really cool, I hope you all are able to watch it soon! Also, welcome to Malcos and Diggi Dis (again!) claiming the last 2 tracks on the GBA soundtrack. WE ARE ONLY 1 TRACK AWAY FROM HAVING A COMPLETELY FULL SOUNDTRACK! Also, I made a separate section of the list for bonus remixers who are making tracks, but haven't quite demonstrated OCR-level quality. They're still quite enjoyable though, and if the tracks end up meeting OCR quality they'll be moved to the main album listing, so just so you know what's up with that small new development
  16. That's because it's rap. It's not supposed to be ultra-melodic.
  17. Hahahahahahahahaha you called him halk. he's gonna kick your ass
  18. Hi there, wonderful super-special-awesome friend! :-D How's that collab comin'? ~_^

  19. I'm not gonna lie, I came into this thread half-expecting a very elaborate press release All jokes aside, I'm always happy to see prolific members of the community getting hitched, I wish you all the best dude
  20. Speaking purely from a non-mod perspective, I really, really enjoyed this. It's a great background track because there's not really much going on and it's rather repetitive (which is why it might have a hard time finding its way onto OCR in its current form) but I just wanted to tell you that I really liked listening to your mix. Good work
  21. Flexstyle got his WAV in to me (and actually delivered an almost-complete version in person when we shared lunch the other day That was pretty neat!) and it's pretty sexy I was beginning to think that source was cursed after getting WIPs from 3 separate people that never panned out into anything, but he came through on this one! Thanks a ton for the awesome track dude So, the preview is coming up quickly and I've got to start whipping up a list of songs for halc to insert into the actual preview... so, my question to you guys is, do you have any requests on songs you'd really like to hear? I can't guarantee I'll honor all of the requests, but if there's any particular songs that people want to hear, I'll consider them more seriously if I know there's public demand. So let me know what your thoughts are, and quickly!
