  1. Wow, everytime you come out with a new remix it's impressive how you take it in a totally new direction, stylistically. Before I even get into hardcore critique mode, I've gotta say, this is a cool and enjoyable remix The intro to the track is pretty spotless as far as I can see. Sometimes it gets a little crowded in the midranges, you might consider cutting back on some of your synths a LITTLE bit, but not too much though. The mix is bright, chipper, and happy, and I like that Your mix does tend to be a little stagnant though, reusing a couple of transitions and pretty much sticking with the same synth lead for almost all of the song. There was one point where you diversified it by bringing a different countermelody synth into the mix, but at that point it just felt like your melodies were competing with each other. I'd suggest doing some searching for possible alternatives to your lead just to give the song some variation. Your piano toward the end, too, is just... really thin. You could try bypassing this with a bell/chime/music box sample that would fit the part well, or EQing your piano sample differently to give it a bit more body. Right now, it just sounds super-tinny, which is fine when it's surrounded by a bunch of other instruments/synths. However, in the outro, it's a lot more exposed and you can hear how thin the sample really is. Aside from that though, it's a great track and I think it could be OCR material for sure. Very smooth beat, flow, nice relaxed synth harmonies... you just need to work on your dynamics and variation throughout the remix, and possibly fixing up that piano sample. Nice work, though! Keep it up here, I like what you've got going!
  2. What's this? Another WAV, finally!? It's been a while, but this one's a special one. It's one of the first WIPs that I received for the project and has always been one of my favorites, and the final version is just... unbelievable. I think you'll all be impressed with the finished album version - it's a crazy mashup of dubstep, ambient, and D&B styles that's almost 7 minutes long with very little repetition that can only be described as epic. Stay tuned for an ambient-only version that'll be featured on the album version, as well! I've also been told that there's been substantial progress on Cody's, zirc/tefnek's, and Prophecy's tracks, though I've yet to hear them. Hopefully they'll be coming along soon though!
  3. Posting this here in case Larry didn't get my IRC message last night. Gracias! LT: Not sharp.
  4. Well, when I say "remixes that OCR likes" or something similar to that, I'm talking about how well they fit the submission standards not how well everyone on OCR will like the remix. A lot of times, judges have had to reject remixes that they openly adored because of issues like the one with your mix. It doesn't really have anything to do with OCR "liking" your remix, but rather how well it fits to the submission standards and the criteria they judge mixes on. It's definitely not an arbitrary judgment, but... I'm rambling. Here's ThaSauce, in case you didn't figure it out yourself: http://remix.thasauce.net/
  5. Hey, sorry this one took me so long to get around to. Right off the bat, I see what Patrick is saying; it's an enjoyable remix that takes the source in a pretty cool direction. I'm getting a lot of Daft Punk vibes from the light, airy beat and generally laid-back soundscape. It feels a little empty to me, but I'm guessing that's just a stylistic thing. However, the repetition is a clincher that almost assuredly will keep this from passing the OCR panel If you either shorten the track a bit to cut down on some of the repetitiveness or re-arrange to vary it up a bit, it would probably be an easy pass... however, I'd suggest you just submit to Remix:ThaSauce, pimp it on Youtube/Soundcloud/whatever and just keep it as it is. It works just fine in its current form, I just don't think it's what OCR is looking for in an arrangement. Take this advice for what it's worth - great remix, but probably not OCR quality. You can submit anyway and see what happens though. I enjoyed listening regardless!
  6. I really like just about everything about this remix; the live performances are absolutely beautiful and the simple bass groove coupled with the synths creates a deliciously smooth soundscape, but those drums... gah, they're just not jiving with me. I totally agree with Jill on this point: "I could totally imagine Brandon "Harmony" Bush or Doug "DrumUltimA" Perry on bongos!" THIS NEEDS TO HAPPEN! I love this arrangement so much but the drums aren't doing it for me. I know it's rude to ask for fixes to a song after it's been posted and finished, but Jill's judge post got my mind racing about how awesome it would sound to hear this song with a more organic set of drums. Feel free to disregard this; I'll be keeping the song on my iPod regardless because it's absolutely beautiful... However, I'd just like to echo that wish to hear some tribal percussion on here. Great work Amy
  7. You should totally remix this, it's got such a chees... err, GOOD melody! ;-)

No seriously, you should do this :-)

  8. Go for it man The more the merrier!
  9. "Audix?" That's a blast from the past Haha, glad to hear he's back on that track, I thought the intial WIP was pretty solid and wouldn't take too much more effort to maximize its potential.
  10. Wow, this is really incredible, it's the type of compilation I can really get lost in Great driving music, and that opening track... wooooaaahhhh. Thanks for providing this awesome free collection, it'll be getting lots of listening time from me!
  11. Yeah man, I don't want to deter you from completing your artistic vision, but just know that it's already a VERY popular album on the genre. I'm sure this has nothing to do with the fact that I'm a huge dubstep fan (actually, it really doesn't. It just worked out that a bunch of remixers wanted to do something in that style. But don't worry, we've got all different subgenres in here; ambient dubstep a-la Burial, hardcore wompwomp, some completely crazy shit from AnSo, and a few surprises. I think you guys will like it.)
  12. Just FYI Damon, we've already got 5 dubstep tracks on the project, haha. I'm totally cool with some dub influences on your song but I'd avoid taking it all-out in that direction just because the project is already saturated with a relatively niche genre.
  13. I've had, like, 7 or 8 people express interest in the track at some point, but Flex is the only person who's been able to submit a WIP. I've asked people like Prince of Darkness, Dr.Manhattan, and even virt to tackle the track (because, as the last remaining track, I want to save it for someone who'll really do an amazing job with it) but either got negative responses or haven't heard back from them yet, so it's still up in the air. Last I heard, Archangel was working on a WIP for it but I have no idea if that's going to be completed anytime soon, so as far as I'm concerned, get me your WIPs if you've got them! If they're not quite up to par, there's always room on the bonus disc for you guys to still get involved with the project I want as many of you contributing to this as possible, even if we can't fit everything onto the main three discs. Cheers everybody, thanks for the support!
  14. Don't worry, I for one am not losing enthusiasm for the project - we have these lulls from time to time, it just takes a few reminders from time to time to get everyone back on track. Since the deadline is still a month and a half away, I can't mandate anyone to get their work done now. It's more of a friendly request to help pick things up on the project so we can get back on track and not lose too much steam. Glad for the concern guys, I promise we'll get things done and it'll be one of the biggest and (hopefully) best OCR projects ever! It might just take some time..
  15. Hey, wow, this is actually very neat Great choice of source, you used it very well in your remix too. Generally, I love your arrangement - the transition from ambient chillout groove to hard rock feels a lot more natural in action than it sounds on paper, so good job for making that work! To be honest, starting off the song with these weak harp samples isn't doing you any favors; the rest of your sounds throughout the remix are pretty high quality and expressive, but the harp sounds like something I'd expect out of a general MIDI soundfont I was ready to write off the mix before it really even started, and I'm guessing other listeners might feel the same, so see if you can hook yourself up with some higher-quality harp sounds. The Youtube mirror isn't doing your song any favors, but listening on soundcloud is definitely recommended for anyone viewing this thread There's still some compression issues on the drums, like Guifrog stated, and I think you should consider toning down the rhythm guitars in the second section so your lead synth can have a little more room to stand out. Otherwise, it's pretty good on the production end of things. Very good arrangement though and a great listen, I'm pleasantly surprised to see a good DKL source get some love! I hope you take the time to polish this up in a few places, hopefully it'll be OCR-ready with very little effort!
  16. Yeah, I suck. I'm sorry for not getting to this earlier It's been a busy week and I've been super absent-minded. Maybe it's just because this has been improved more since the last versions that everyone else commented on, but I love this I'm not sure that the simplicity of the arrangement lends itself to OCR's standards as much as a more complex arrangement would, but god this is beautiful. It sounds like something I'd hear right out of a game soundtrack. My suggestions? Tone down the pad and the reverb a little bit near the end, it gets kind of heavy on the speakers and just becomes a wall of sound. I know you're going for a reverbed, airy feel (which you accomplish wonderfully) but at some points it gets just a little too intense and I think you should make some EQ cuts here and there to give things a little more room to breathe. I'd say, submit this. The simplistic left hand writing might be too repetitive for the judges, but your source breakdown seems to be all clear, and I honestly feel like the atmosphere of the remix more than compensates for any issues in arrangement that may or may not be perceived. Regardless of what happens, I'm keeping this on my playlist It's a wonderful arrangement and I feel really bad for not getting around to reviewing this earlier, so my apologize for my lameness! Best of luck with whatever you decide to do with this song!
  17. So, uhh... are you guys all dead or something? The only person I've really heard from regarding their project tracks lately is Brandon, and the completion of his song hinges on me watching the rest of Dexter Season 4 Seriously, it's been exactly 2 weeks since I've heard updates from anyone! It's been sad, I miss the constant flow of updates, but I don't want to bug anyone individually, so... I'll just throw this out here now - if you get a WIP into me now, I'll be very happy
  18. Thanks for making this mod review ridiculously easy. SUB THIS NOW, this is one of the best songs I've heard to hit the WIP forums in months. Good friggin' work you guys The outro really sends chills down my spine, with the sax and the whispers... This one's a keeper, I can't imagine any reason it wouldn't get past the panel.
  19. Please tell me "flute loops" was intended as a pun. Please, please, it's too clever to be unintentional!

  20. Bumping this so when I'm available to review it, I'll see it. I'll try my best to get to your song today or tomorrow Sorry about the wait!
  21. We've actually got a very talented artist (Flexstyle) on call for the project to master all of the songs. As it is, he usually just does small mastering touchups on already-finished songs, but in your case I think your song could really benefit from something more in-depth cause the arrangement you've got is pretty neat so far. All you need to do is finish the arrangement and I can try to hook you up ;-)

  22. Damn! Damn! Damn! Guns, damn! Explosions! DAMN!
  23. Link's Awakening and Teen Agent are finished, the rest of the albums are close, but not finished yet. As long as you get your submission in soon (which it seems like you already have) I'm pretty sure you'd be 2nd or 3rd in line. The Megaman album still has a lot of tracks that need fixes before it'll be ready to release.
  24. I'm not sure whatcha mean. Do you mean you don't want anyone else mastering the track or you haven't been able to ask for it up until now? :-P

  25. I'm with chthonic, I'd loooove to see something 3D that can capture what I liked about Sonic Adventure 2. All complaints aside, that's one of my all-time favorite games and I hold it in extremely high regard, and I don't see any reason they couldn't recreate that feeling in a new game.
