  1. Most of them are below par, yeah, but there's a handful (I count 3 or 4) that are still really good source tunes. Plus, you can always dual-claim with someone else, so you're free to do whatever the hell else you want I just *prefer* for totally unclaimed tracks to get done so we get as much variety on the album as possible. Status update: Brandon Strader just switched over to "Hangin' With Funky" which means that Stilt Village (SNES) is now unclaimed. It's a fun track that could easily translate into something happy and folksy, so check it out if you're up for something like that
  2. Glad to find that there's so many people who like the GBA soundtrack, or are at least familiar with it. And for those of you who are checking it out because of this project, that makes me feel awesome that I've been able to publicize Dave Wise's awesome work a bit more. Everyone's familiar with what he and Eveline did on the SNES half, but a big motivation here is to raise awareness about an awesome soundtrack that not a ton of people know about. So cool! Neither - it's based off of the bird variety of emus
  3. But even I'll admit that going public on the same night as Serious Monkey Business is a pretty cheap way to cash in But it's obviously not going to steal any of the limelight away from SMB; it only stands to increase the general level of DKC-related hype around the site. And since Taucer, Bahamut, or any of the other staff gave me the go-ahead, I figured I'd just go for it.
  4. I agree, the GBA soundtrack is so underrated, but it's definitely one of my favorite soundtracks ever. You've got good taste
  5. This has been in the works since December actually
  6. This wonderful song vies for the spot of "favorite track on Serious Monkey Business." I think it might only be topped by one or two others. Forest Interlude is my favorite source tune ever, so I'm always interested in hearing new takes on it, but the way Fishy reimagines the original while sticking extremely close to the mood is fantastic. The way he wrote in so many other instruments to the song is what really pushes this over the edge for me - the guitar is nice and surprisingly appropriate, but it's the emotive piano and strings that really give it the needed creative boost. Beautiful work Fishy, this is definitely one of my top 5 favorite songs of all time!

  8. This is a pretty monumental release, no question about it. I'm not quite sure what I expected from this song once I heard who was going to be involved. It's conservative, which makes sense given how much respect Dave and co. must have for the source tune he created However, it fits right in line with the OCR paradigm with some clever embellishments on the groove, a much-deserved sound upgrade, and some fantastic live instrumental parts from two of my favorite Rareware composers Grant in particular is a beast on guitar, that surprised me a lot! Great work all-around, I can't think of a better way to celebrate OCR2000 than with what is definitely the most star power we've ever seen on one song. I have a feeling this record will stand for quite a while.
  9. Just want to throw this out there, I've got another very big surprise dropping simultaneously with the launch of this album later tonight, so keep your eyes on the Community forum for that
  10. I personally loved the vocal tracks on this album, but your mileage may vary. I can see a lot of the songs rubbing people the wrong way, but personally I absolutely love what Zyko did with Run Rambi, Run! and M.J. Ault's vocals on Hot-Head Bop, among others. I think everyone will be able to find at least one vocal song they can fall in love with (except for the social conformity guy, but he doesn't count.)
  11. Ok, this is definitely the best written preface to any remix ever The mix itself is pretty sexy, but short... like a hot midget Sometimes the various distortion effects get to be a bit much, I think you should lay off of them as you delve more into the mix... a bit anyway. Finish this one plzzzzz! X(
  12. Workshop mod? More like... uhh, JERKshop mod! >x(

  13. Well, I like the jazzy chords and sound choices as always I'll be honest though, the vocoded/autotuned/whatever vocals didn't really seem as cool this time around after already hearing your PokéCenter mix :\ You gotsta do something fresh with the vox, although you did hit some cool notes from :33 to :36 that I absolutely loved. Be creative though, I know you got it in ya!
  14. You've got a lot of potential with this concept but it doesn't feel like it's progressing as it should. It's already 2 and a half minutes and it still feels like you're in intro/buildup mode. I definitely think you could fix this by beefing up some of your sounds a bit earlier (you already did this with the drumloop which is a good start) and exploring the many other melodies that Stickerbush Symphony has to offer The bass is really a high point of this for me, I love your creative pitch bending. However, I would personally just remove the first bass note, I don't think it fits :\ One last note, the arp transition that you used twice in this WIP is really awesome, but I definitely think it could get overplayed and that you should save it for moments when it really matters. The first time you used it felt like it needed a simpler, less-powerful transition. Of course I love this though - one of my favorite genres of electronic music mixed with a brilliant source tune by a very talented remixer... all the keys for success. Just need to put some time into focusing your direction and polishing the finer points a bit Good luck!
  15. Heh, you actually managed to make that country twangyness sound attractive. The acoustic strumming and piano definitely make the genre very enjoyable even though I'm definitely not a fan of it in general. The drum pattern is an odd choice but I'd say it works pretty well. The piano at the end is brilliant, although it feels weird having such a multi-instrumental track and then breaking it down to a solo piano piece for so long. I'd recommend keeping the general idea you've got now but incorporating another instrument or two in with most of it. Either that, or save that part for the actual ending of the song where it might feel more appropriate to use a solo piano. I personally think the second option would work better, but it'd be good to consider both Nice work though, I hope this gets finished
  16. I'm always up for some tasteful 4-on-the-floor, and this mix certainly delivers. It's got a solid groove, but the silky-smooth production is what really makes this track memorable. Killer work man
  17. I feel bad for ragging on this mix so much earlier - I focused a lot on production and didn't spend nearly enough time talking about the things I did like. Sorry about that :\ The drums are, of course, great as I've come to expect from Young. The chord choices are very evocative and give the mix a very nostalgic, pensive feel, which I've really come to appreciate a lot more than I let on in my previous posts. It's a great song to listen to when you want to just sit outside, watch the clouds, and contemplate.
  18. Just bumping this to remind you that this WIP, especially, needs to be finished. All your WIPs are great but I think this one has the most potential to be absolutely amazing.
  19. halc needs to check out the most recent version, obviously
  20. That's an egg It's part of the scene in the game, in case you're not being sarcastic.
  21. Yeah, I agree with Kenogu Labz that it can get a bit intense/piercing at times, I still think you should submit this to OCR. I think it's got a great chance of passing, really stellar work!
  22. Sounds good to me dude. I'd say PM it to Liontamer and see if you can get it fasttracked back to the panel, I think it's got a good chance of passing now.
  23. http://ocremix.org/forums/member.php?u=32957 Kill it with fire.
