  1. I'm reminded of the "McCain Prays while Obama grabs a shovel" article. Is there anything we can do? Some kind of e-get well card we can all sign?
  2. Here's another question: how old is it? I didn't even pay attention to Macs before the Intel switch.
  3. Psssh, I mentioned the MBP and Wes ran with it. I always tried to bring it around to CTDS. Please don't put words in my mouth. Did I ever claim it was flawless or that it would have zero problems? No I didn't. They're also redoing the logic board and casing, so at the very least chipping will probably not be an ongoing issue. As for overheating, we'll see, but I do have a laptop cooler for the purpose.
  4. Yes, but boot camp requires a restart every time you want to run a Windows program. And what about running a Windows and Mac program simultaneously?
  5. Do you think the script will see a facelift, not unlike KWhatzit's translation?
  6. It's true.
  7. I bought my current HP laptop in 2005. Last year nearly every part had to be replaced (thankfully while it was still under warranty). And now it still doesn't work very well. Windows Vista (which I'm using because XP doesn't have my laptop's drivers and it was difficult to hunt them all down) is irritating. I can't start learning to remix because DirectSound is crap and ASIO4All doesn't work My programs are slow as balls even though I perform maintenance on the thing every other day My battery has been replaced, yet has a maximum life of one hour and likes to fall out of my laptop every now and again and completely kill whatever I was working on Compare that to: An incredibly well-built and popular machine which has reached a point where it can be appreciated by more than its diehard fans (i.e. mid-90s Apple) Exclusive, high-quality programs which are heralded by amateurs, professionals, and people on this site alike Much less spyware crap Core audio (which makes computer music possible) The ability to program small additions to the OS (which sounds damn awesome to me) Hell, an OS which is significantly updated by the company in a much shorter timeframe than Microsoft And let's not forget the removal of a major roadblock to switching: the ability to still run all my Windows programs. Would you like the long version?
  8. Didn't play the second one, but I'm assuming it didn't have any of this mystical crap. One thing I liked so much about the first game is that, save for the bullet time, it's completely realistic. Something not found in video games much these days.
  9. http://www.free-times.com/index.php?cat=1992912064227409&ShowArticle_ID=11010907083805273 This is the front-page article from the most recent issue of Free Times, Columbia's free weekly newspaper. Don't know whether they brought it over there first on purpose or it was just a humorous coincidence, but I found a copy while outside the Engineering Center where I work. The article explains how nerds have gone from social outcast to... maybe not the top of the social food chain. But much better than before. Nerds made computers, the Internet, video games, and pretty much all technology which our society relies on so much today. However, the article goes on to say that true nerds still don't have the best time of it: these are the people who like the nerdy stuff but also have the introverted, awkward personality. The article mentions Seth Cohen, who likes nerdy things but doesn't display the characteristics of one. He, according to the article, would be called a geek. A Hollywood geek, too, who is carefully portrayed to be likable. So read the article and offer up your thoughts? Are you a true nerd, or simply a pseudo-assimilation who expresses very high interest in nerdy things?
  10. Probably need more information about the game (is it freeware, where do you intend to release it, etc?). What kind of games do you develop? I myself just recently started working with XNA. Quite interesting, and many possibilities.
  11. See, now that's just wrong no matter what.
  12. I'm 18-21. They are older gamers. Younger gamers are probably fourteen and below, like my brother.
  13. Very surprised this wasn't mentioned. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YNhhD-Zt-8&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwNrmYRiX_o This is how I first learned about "Take Five."
  14. I seriously lol'ed at 0:30. Second of all: eye-do-luns? Anyone else ever pronounce it this way? For me it was always ee-do-lons.
  15. I'm in a similar situation with the MacBook Pro. Goddam is it irritating with only rumors to go on, but I know that waiting til the redesign will pay off. To shift the topic back a little bit, I've been thinking about this whole port versus remake business, and I'd like to offer my speculation as to why SE didn't go for a full blown remake. Every gamer has heard of Final Fantasy. That is basically guaranteed. It's been around since the NES for the older ones and lives strong today in our modern systems. Since the majority of the younger gamers are not retro gamers, the appeal of any FF game pre-FF7 (maybe even later than that) falls flat. Therefore, remaking the game is worth it because it's a series everyone will know and want to buy and a good way to introduce younger gamers to what came before. Chrono, on the other hand, only lasted across two generations. It amassed a significant underground following but simply isn't the zeppelin that Final Fantasy is. It's a series fewer people are acquainted with, and since no one likes change, I can easily imagine the younger gamers going "The hell is Chrono Trigger?" and not paying a second thought. Since there isn't the name recognition that essentially serves as marketing in place, SE probably doesn't consider it worth their time to appease a comparatively smaller audience. There you go.
  16. Hadn't heard of this til I discovered Thunder Force V for the Playstation. Since I loved and trusted Working Designs, I will believe this is a good series. I'll also go back and play the earlier ones.
  17. Hmm. Official website says "hard disk drive." So I'm guessing no on that one.
  18. Okay, I think I've settled on what I'll get. I realized that I wanted the ability for Firewire 800 (since I'm getting a Mac alongside this and will want to make use of the speed boost). This is the cheapest of the 1 TB hard drives, and its specs seem to stand up against the others (SATA, 7200 RPM, etc). This guy appears to be the cheapest compatible enclosure with 800 ports. Together, they'll run me $280, which is a bit more than the myBook I was looking at, but not as fast (why they think including eSATA over FW800 is a good idea is beyond me). It's also not as wieldy as the myBook, but it's definitely more wieldy than my current hard drive (which they've apparently stopped making). I don't intend to be dropping the drive, but in case I do perhaps it's possible to pad the hard drive within its chassis to reduce the risk of any sudden jolts. Too bad I can't wait til the next generation of USB/Firewire, though... EDIT: Damn, just found this one, which is cheaper but probably even more unwieldy.
  19. What's really irritating about this is that they're so committed to keeping everything the way it was that they're neglecting to change some of the stuff that was bad about it. Specifically, the idea of a non-scrolling screen. I HATE HATE HATE a screen that moves before Megaman can continue moving. It throws off my rythm and I have to readjust for where he is on the new screen. And since in these games every screen invariably has something shooting at you, that can cost you precious health.
  20. We talked about this briefly at MAGFest. If you go as Sabin I'll whip up Locke. Jeremy & Jeremy playing chars from the same game. There's got to be some innovation there. P.S. TYRANO LAIR METAL THEME!!!!1!1!!
  21. The Gamespot link never used the word "full." I have no problem believing that it was the first to use models. I know of no other game with models like them.
  22. Not til you give me the video footage you owe me.
  23. I've wanted to go for the past couple years now but never could. I'm in this year.
