  1. Wow, there's a lot of stuff in there! Not sure what to call that style at all! Neat sound bytes that I wouldn't expect to mix together very well... but it definitely works out! I could learn a lot from you, haha... Very funky, liking it a lot ^^

The one on the project is as funky as I get, really. I like to incorporate funk into house tracks, though! Here's one of mine in exchange:

  2. "Schizophrenic", eh? :P

I definitely welcome the mixing of lots of genres, since I get bored with just using one. Sometimes I go a little overboard and make things that are like rock/orchestra/house and it sounds a little too weird. Anyhow, I'd love to hear what all you've been working on! If there's anything you wanna share, I mean :P

(Also, sorry for taking so long to respond. Classes started back up and I got hit with hella projects)

  3. Oh, I forgot to post the finished version of this. Thanks for the advice on the build, because it was pretty noisy and discordant before. Hopefully this version sounds better ^^ https://soundcloud.com/kruai/zedd-clarity-kruai-remix-free
  4. Aw, you put a lot of good work into it, though. I'm excited to hear the completed piece as well--it's awesome to see you guys collaborating. I hope he gives you updates and doesn't just pass you the final WAV! XD

HAHA that is the most hilarious analogy I've heard for dirty bass. Have you messed around with the nasty sounds, or do you mostly mess with funk and chippy stuff? I've only heard a few of your WIPs, but I like what I've heard so far :)

  5. Thanks dude! I can tell you like funk and such--I hear a lot of it in your stuff (especially the "wacky" one, which is sounding AWESOME. You know the one). I'm also a huge fan of funk and jazz, and I'm going through a phase where a lot of my stuff has a little of its tasty influence!

I can't wait to hear the final versions of your stuff. This whole thing is gonna be raaaaad :D

  6. Currently getting ahold of someone willing to do the piano work for me! I'll have that in the next WIP, hopefully. Trying to fix some of the arrangement issues, the drums, some balancing stuff, and overall sound issues. Here's the updated WIP: https://soundcloud.com/kruai/fantastically-undefined-wip/s-W0dRc
  7. Yeah, I actually got the stems from his Soundcloud back when there was the whole remix competition thing. Also, calm down, you guys! I'm not going to assume anyone is the ultimate authority on anything--I almost always assume on a forum that people mean "I think" or "maybe" unless they back up what they say with a reliable source. Rest assured, though, I'm taking each of your ideas and opinions into account
  8. Yeah... I got another copyright notice because you could kinda hear a choir in the background in a sort of vlog I was doing at Notre Dame. Kind of a pain :/
  9. OK--I didn't realize that's how it worked. Thanks for the clarification. Isn't Joypad just for game music? Either way, though, I'll look into getting a license. Thanks again.
  10. "Massive company sues pants off of college student, along with the rest of his possessions". I don't think the pros outweigh the cons in this case
  11. Hi all, I recently posted my own remix of Zedd - Clarity on YouTube, and it has gotten a copyright claim from UMG almost immediately. They're already blocking the video in Germany, and I'm not sure if I should dispute their claim or not. I added a lot of original content to it, and I'm not making profit from it. I gave credit to the original in my video, I linked to Clarity on iTunes, and I even linked to Zedd's Facebook. Zedd - Clarity (Kruai Remix) My question is--should I dispute the claim? I don't know how copyright law works with remixes, and I'm terrified of being sued by this massive company. I would love any advice you guys can offer.
  12. Hey all! Made another electro house piece, but it's in 3 this time. Mostly. http://soundcloud.com/kruai/super-spooky-ghost-party All feedback welcome. Enjoy!
  13. Why you gotta stalk my wall posts, X? :-P

  14. Well it's not the be-all and end-all, but it's definitely worth it. I haven't really used anything but for synths. Are you thinking about going into some of the heavier electronic stuff? :D

  15. Hiya Gar! Thanks for listening--I really appreciate it. Waiting to hear more of your Collision Chaos, too! As for effect suites, I don't really know what to recommend. I use Massive and that's essentially my only synth, but it's very versatile. Besides that I just use basic compressors, EQs, limiters, the standard lot :)

  16. Dude! Great work on that one piece. You know the one. You are a darn good rapper :)

  17. Hi! I would love to go under Fungi Forest - Mine Cart, if I may. I know I don't have any posted remixes yet, so I can provide you with a sample of an original (for QA purposes): Kruai - Cyberlove (Original Mix) I would likely be making either a house or glitch-hop remix of the cart theme. There will likely be some dirt/grime thrown in. If this is too far off of the guidelines, let me know! The mine cart theme is pretty panicky though, so I imagine a pretty heavy piece for its remix.
  18. Wow. GREAT work on that one piece. You know, the one with all the awesome. I'm thoroughly enjoying all six minutes of it :D

  19. Hey Matt! Yessir, but I was not online long enough to provide you with an adequate response. I have now sent you a response, and I shall get started on that WIP ASAP :)

  20. Hey all! ECGC is a game conference which takes place from Apr 24-25 in Raleigh, NC. It's got games, keynotes by Cliff Bleszinski and Jason Vandenberghe, and of course a big ol' expo floor. Not to mention, a big party the night before hosted by Epic Games. I will definitely go if I can get it labeled as an "excused absence" (darn classes), since I've never been to an expo. http://ecgconf.com/ Is anyone else considering going to this one?
  21. This is going to be amazing! I am so hype right now.
  22. I generally start with an idea, be it a progression, melody, or synth sound. I then build a short segment that sounds near-finished from that. If I like it, I start coming up with other sections that would work in the piece, either linearly or scattered. When everything's in place, I listen to it a few hundred times, deleting the parts I consider the least awesome knowing that I'll replace them with something better in due time. Really, I guess I don't have a set process. I just kinda do what feels right, but I can't follow rules. That gets me stuck.
  23. Making myself sit down and mess with my music is pretty hard. I used to just wait for the muse to appear, but then I'd never get anything done. I've found that if I sit down and just mess with some synths, I'll get inspired to work on it a whole lot more. When I actually get around to making music, composing the melody is probably the hardest part for me. I think that's why I like making remixes so much--I can do a lot with a song if a melody has already been given to me, and I can make variations and improv off of that. Making one from scratch is the plops, though. I can't wait to take more music theory class next semester.
  24. Interesting--didn't expect the slower pace for that song. But it's pulled off well, and sounds very pretty. Nice arrangement overall. I will say it's very conservative, though. I'd recommend throwing in some kind of instrument feature, either for your flute or your guitar. If you're getting someone to do the guitar part, this might be a good chance to let them do a little improv. So yes, I'd recommend adding some more original content. It sounds good overall, but it's not quite up to the acceptable remix ratio.
