  1. Tekken 5: Hell YES! Tekken 5 isn't my most favorite game of all time for nothing. This game has everything a good fighting game, and any video game for that matter, needs. The graphics are amazing for a PS2 game. I lost count of how many times I read a review that said they couldn't believe they were playing a PS2 game. The sound is top notch and the music is the best I have heard in the series since Tekken 3. The presentation is top of the line. Finally, the gameplay is the best and deepest the series has ever had. In my opinion, there are very few games that have the level of deepness that Tekken 5 has. Each character has a unique moveset and properties which give the game tons of variety. The inclusion of air grapples, newparries, the crush system, new wall mechanics, new animations and better hit detection just make the gameplay even deeper than it ever was. This game also has tons of replay value. It will take you some time to completely learn one character and it will take longer to learn the whole cast of 30+ characters. There so many different modes to choose from including story which is very interesting to play. Devil Within (a small side-story action game included in Tekken 5) isn't anything special or amazing but it is alright and pretty fun to play. It will take a good while to unlock all the tons of custmizations avialable for the characters in the game. Tekken 5 also includes an Arcade history mode that lets you play Arcade Perfect verions of Tekken, Tekken 2, and Tekken 3. These games could have easly sold as a collection because they are still fun and exciting to play today. Yes this game is over the top, unrealistic, and very combo friendly but that doesn't make it a bad game by any means. That is just the style of gameplay Tekken brings to the genre, which is something unique and different. It might be for everybody but it is still solid and fun. Anybody who likes Fighters or even just own a PS2 need to play this game seriously at least once. This game is great and I can't explain just how fun it is. Super Smash Bros.Melee: YES!!!! Any real nintendo fan should play this game. Their is absolutely no reason not to. This game is the definition of EPIC. All most all of your favorite nintendo stars duking it out in one single game, whats not to like. This game is just packed to the max with nintendo nostalgia. For that alone this game warrants a must play. However this game contains much more than just nostalgia, this game as a fun, easy to use, tough to master, very deep and unique fighting system. Anyone can pick up this game and have tons of fun. The gameplay is so simple that a 3 year old kid could easily play it. However, under that easy and simplistic control scheme, is a very deep and sophisticated fighting system. The characters are very unique and some many different poperties, it just gives you a very wide scope of techniques to learn and use effectively. This game is awsome and should be a must a play for any nintendo fan and gamecube owner. Marvel vs Capcom: Yes Just as long as the game being discussed is the Dreamcast version of Marvel vs Capcom, its getting a yes from me. MvC was the start of fun series of crossovers from capcom. For any Marvel and Capcom fan, this game was like a dream come true. The fighting system is unique, very over the top, deep and most of all fun. The characters, while few, were unique and fun to play. Spider-man vs Ryu, what more do I need to say. This game is also much more balanced than its sequel. Great game that any 2D fighting fan should try.
  2. Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess: YES Even though I think the Wii version is far superior, The are pretty much the same game and it is getting a yes from me. I loved all most every aspect of this game. The gameplay (though better on the Wii) is rock solid. The graphics, sound, environents, story, and the immersion of the game are all great. Pretty much the only thing I didn't like about the game was that it wasway to easy for my tastes. I am glad they decided to delay this game, because the end result was superb. Any Zelda fan or anyone who has a gamecube needs to play this game at least once. Capcom vs SNK 2: Hell YES! This is by far my second favorite 2D fighter of all time. Gameplay doesn't get much more rock solid or as deep as this. Anyone can have fun playing this game in my opinion. There are so many characters and play styles to choose from that there has got to be something someone will like. My noob cousins just love using Ken with an A-groove and start button mashing most of the match. The presentation and graphics may be sub-standard, but the gameplay is awsome and thats what counts. Great game overall. Agian, there is Dreamcast version of Capcom vs SNK 2 and many would argue that the DC is the best version.
  3. Just got Guilty Gear X2 for PS2. I never owned the game but I got to play it a lot at my local arcade. Man I forgot how cheap I-no was. I am glad I can finally play it whenever I want.
  4. The cracker launcher actually looks really cool. The effects for the weapon look like they'll be really cool. Hope they continue puting up more new items.
  5. I understand now, thanks for clearing things up. I hope you can get more time with the game and hopefully see what I see in it. If not, thats fine and just stick to your decision
  6. Don't worry man, You won't offend. Unlike some people, I respect others opinions (even if I disagree) and I am glad you gave some input on what I said. The thing is, when you are posting in a forumn like this, it is hard to aviod peoples opinions. So we can't really make a full-proof Must Have list of games because people are always going to disagree on them. I personally think it is stupid to dismiss a game or not recommend it for something as small "its to hard" or "I don't like this style of game". Like I have said before, I really don't like playing turn-based RPGs or stealth games. Ex. Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid. I however, I still recognize that these games are good and I recognize that they offered a lot to the industry, but I still by peronal tastes don't enjoy playing them and nobody's going to change my mind. That is what I was trying point out about Metriod Prime 2. Despite your peronal tastes and preferences, it has the formula that makes a great game. Then agian, that is an opinion in its self.
  7. Street Fighter III Third Strike: Hell YES! In my opinion, this is the best 2D Fighter to ever grace the face of the earth. There is absolutely no other fighter (2D or 3D) that even comes close to the level of deepness that SF III's fighting system has. The ability to chose which Super Art can change the way your character is played significantly, which just adds even more depth. The character roster is larger and more creative than that of the other SF3s. This game looks and sounds amazing as well. The animation is top notch. If you like Street Fighter games, or 2D fighters for that matter, and you haven't played this game, you seriously need to slap yourself across the face and ask yourself "why?". Street Fighter III Third Strike is an awsome game that needs to be on this list. Last Blade 2: No Nice looking 2D fighter, but it just doesn't even come close to the level of depth offered by other fighters. The character roster isn't very creative or inspiring either. Other SNK fighters are worth your time and money but not this one. Metriod Prime 2: YES!!! There is absolutely nothing wrong with Metriod Prime 2 in my opinion. For those that think its to hard, I think you just don't like challenging games. For those that don't feel immersed, I think you don't give the game the attention it deserves. For those that think it isn't any different form Metriod Prime, your dead wrong. I am not trying to offend anyone, I am just trying to state my opinion and defend this game. Here is why this game is so great. The graphics and sound are execellent and a big improvement over MP1. The music is great. The gameplay is just as tight and fun as it was in MP1. The worlds are huge and much bigger than that of MP1. There is soo much to explore and find in this game. The monsters and enemies are very creative and unique and other tons of variety. This game is a little challenging, which I personally like. The story is much deeper and original than that of MP 1. You actually, even if just barely, interact with other characters in the game. To me, MP2 feels more like a Metriod game than MP1 did because of the inclusion of the old favorite "The Screw Attack", wall jumping, and color themed doors. The new weapons, especially the seeker missiles, are cool and well done in my opinion. Finally MP2 has more added replay value than the first thanks to the inclusion of multiplayer. The multiplayer isn't anything revoultionary or great but it still gives you a reason to pick it up agian. That is why this game is great and a must play. Also remeber what was said early: Oh, and sephire, you just contradicted what you said above by saying this. Mario Kart DS: Yes This game is fun and my personal favorite Mario Kart. I love all the old stages included. Not recommending this game because of snakers is stupid in my opinion. You can't dismiss a game because of the way certain people play it. It isn't the game's fault people become obsessed with it and start doing whatever they can to win. There are going to people like that in every game you play. Its fun and a must play by any Mario Kart fan.
  8. Fatal Fury Mark of the Wolves: YES! For those that don't know, Fatal Fury Mark of the Wolves is the North American name for Garou Mark of the Wolves. This is one of the best 2D fighters you will ever play in your lifetime. This game is a milestone for the Fatal Fury series as far as I am concerned. The gameplay is very solid and very deep. The graphics were really good in my opinion and the sprites had execellent animation. The game comes close to Street Fighter 3 Third Strike status in my opinion. This game is a blast to play and a must play for 2D fighter fans, especially those who have a Dreamcast. Shadow of the Colossus: Yes You know this game has to be great when people continue to play this game despite its technical shortcomings. When I first played this game, I couldn't believe how bad the framerate got at certain points and how flickery the environments looked at times. However, I got really immersed in the gameplay and I eventually completely ignored all those problems. I also really like this game because it mostly made up of a bunch of boss fights, huge epic boss fights. I am a sucker for boss fights and this game was loaded with them. Great game overall, highly recommend.
  9. Soul Calibur II: YES! This game wasn't the revoultion the first SC was but it is still a fantastic fighter and worth owning. If you haven't played SC I on the dreamcast already then you must at least play SC II for either PS2, GC, or Xbox. This game is great. It has everything the first had plus more. The graphics and sound are much improved, and the gameplay is as tight as ever. The only complaint I have about SC II is the lack of difficulty and the unbalance of the game. Other than that this game is just like SC I but better in my opinion. A must play by any gamer. EDIT: By the way sephire, there is gamecube version of SC II and isn't any better or worse than the other 2 versions, so I suggest you include it.
  10. Now that I got more info, I think this fianl smash is extremely cool. I looked ok before but I never understood exactly how it worked until now. I can't wait to see what Meta Knight's and C. Falcon's is. I am sure C. Falcon will be in the game. More screens of Kirby's, Link's, and Wario's Final Smash would be cool too.
  11. Jak II: YES! Just take everything I said about Jak I and apply it to this game plus the addition of weapons, weapon upgrades, more in-depth story, tighter comabt and you have Jak II. I agree that Jak III is much better, but like I said before with Jak I, You really need to play the whole series if you want to get the whole experience and want to understand the whole great stroy. Jak II improves on Jak I in many ways. More focus is placed on story than the first, the city is so expansive and has tons to do in it, the combat is deeper thanks to the addition of new moves, weapons, weapon upgrades, and Dark Jak, and the graphics and sound are much better. This game is a must play for anyone who likes platformers and owns a PS2. Super Mario Sunshine: Yes This game wasn't the revoultion that Mario 64 was but it is still a great game. The world seems just as big, if not bigger than Mario 64. The gameplay is what you would expect from a Mario Platformer, awsome. The inclusion of the Fludd adds a lot more to the gameplay not to mention upgrades for it. Other than that, this game is pretty much Mario 64 but with Gamecube graphics, a new tool to use, and a tropical setting. Anyone who likes Mario games or owns a gamecube should definately try this one out.
  12. Tekken Tag Tournament: YES! Sure there is a much better Tekken game avialable for the PS2 (Tekken 5) but I think Tekken Tag is still worth a try just because it has that classic original Tekken gameplay and the TAG team action which is something you won't get from any other Tekken game. As far as the Tekken series is concerned, either you like it or hate it. I thing it is unfair to judge this series based on personal taste. A lot of people don't like the some what slow paced, tactical, and over the top style of tekken but that doesn't mean it is bad by any means. This game is just as deep as any other good fighter like Virtua Fighter, it is just not as realistic. Believe me, this game is very deep and it takes alot of time and practice to get good at the game, and that is just to learn one character. Try learning the whole cast of 30+ characters. Tekken Tag is also arguably more deep some of its counterparts because the team you pick can greatly affect gameplay. The game is just plain fun to play with buddies as well. The characters are also very diverse and I am sure anybody can find someone they like. This game and the Tekken series as a whole is great and I think everybody, especialy fighting game fans should try it out. Burnout 3: Yes Burnout 3 has got be one of if not my favorite racers of all time. The games since of speed is amazing and I think no other street car racer can simulate that on an equal scale. The game also has tons of replay value with all the multiplayer modes they have including online play. Single player is a blast as well and will keep you busy for a while. The graphics are awsome. Pretty much the only thing I didn't like about this game was the punk rock soundtrack. This game is great and every racing fan should give it a try. Capcom vs SNK 2: EO: Borderlined Yes Much like Marvel vs Capcom 2, the Xbox version of Capcom vs SNK 2 isn't a very good port. The graphics and animation aren't as good as their arcade, DC, and PS2 counterparts. The controls don't feel as tight as well. However this game has one huge thing going for it, Online Play. How great is it to play one of the best 2D fighters ever made online. The online gives replay value much greater than that of its counterparts. For that, the Xbox version is a good game to own, however I feel you won't be getting the full arcade experience like with the other versions Legend of Zela The Wind Waker: YES! I know alot of people complain about the whole sailing and collecting Triforce chards part of the game, but I honestly think that is ridiculous. These things have been part of many other Zelda games before. The sailing is just the same as walking or riding a horse to other areas in other Zelda games, except these are islands so you must sail. You have to collect stuff in every Zelda game. Besides, the collecting Tri-force chards is such a small part of the the whole game that it is ridiculous not to recommend the game just for that tiny little segment. The reasons why this game is a must play is because it offers the immersive experience just like any other Zelda game. The gameplay is great and well done, the world is massive and allows for tons of exploration, the story is absolutely terrific, the sound is great, the music is awsome, and the graphics (despite the cartoony look) are amazing. Everybody should give this game a chance just because of all that it offers and all that it accomplishes. Also people complaining about diffculty obvisously haven't played other Zelda games. This game wasn't any easier than Ocarina of Time was and Twilight Princess was so much easier than both. This game is great and everyone should give it chance. Soul Calibur: Hell YES! Soul Calibur isn't one of the most highest rated and regarded games of all time for nothing. Soul Blade was already great in my opinion and Soul Calibur just made it a 100 times better. This game revolutionized the fighting genre, especially weapon based fighters. The 8-way run was something entirely new and innovative and it made the game extremely deep. Soul calibur is a very deep game for the same reasons Tekken is. The graphics were amzing for the time and the sound was just brilliant. This game also appealed to the hardcore and casual gamers alike. New comers and casual gamers could easily get into the game and have fun but at the same time be no match for an experienced veteran. This game is great and everybody should play it, fighting fan or not. Star Wars Kights of the Old Republic: Yes I normaly don't like RPGs at all but I loved this game anyway. I don't why but it didn't feel like I was playing a RPG. The fact that the action continued to take place during or even when I wasn't selecting commands helped out alot by making the game more action oriented, fast paced, and overall fun. The story for this game is just unbelieveable. I don't think I have ever gotten so into a video game story like I did with KotOR. The fact that it is a Star Wars game just is reason enough for me to just try out the game. Anyone who likes RPGs and Star Wars should really try out this game. Great game overall. Man I gave out alot of yes's. This was the list of games I was waiting for.
  13. Just read the first page agian, and I don't remeber Marvel vs Capcom 2 for dreamcast ever being put up for discussion (or vote). Maybe I just missed, but in any case I vote Yes to the Dreamcast version Marvel vs Capcom 2. The game is almost aracde perfect in everyway. The fighting system is tight and deep, although unbalanced, and it is loads of fun to play. If there is any game that is way better on Dreamcast than any other console, it's MvC2.
  14. Doom 3: No I give the "X-Box" version of Doom 3 a no. The game sucks on the X-box in my opinion. The PC version is way better. The graphics and gameplay is tons better. The PC version also has the expansion pack which fixes some of those problems of the original and adds more to the single player. I'll vote yes if PC is ever included in this list. Veiwtiful Joe: Yes This game is loads of fun and the combat it tight. The boss fights are tons of fun. This game is very cool spin on the classic 2D classic side-scroller. This game is just plain fun. Don't know how else to describe it. It is much better on the Gamecube though in my opinion.
  15. Here is where my unique opinion on games comes in. So sorry in advanced for those that will most likely disagree with my views. Halo: No Putting it plain and simple, this game is one of the most overrated games ever made. This game isn't anything special for a FPS. In game is way to slow paced for my tastes as well. The game just isn't challenging. The slow pace makes me laugh sometimes. The story just seems mediocre to me. The multiplayer is the highlight of the game. It is done very well but agian it isn't anything new or special. Since we are talking about the X-box version, the lack of online isn't very good for this game especially since it is on a system that heavily promotes online play. The controls are tight though for a console shooter. Good game but extremely overrated and considering the large numbers of FPSs in the industry, I am sure you can find something more worthwhile, even its sequel. Grand Theft Auto III: No This game in my opinion is also very overrated. There were many other games, including its prequels, that contained the free-roam element before this game and they pulled it off well. This game is good and fun but for a hardcore gamer like me, It isn't enough. The story is mediocre, the missions are simple and bland, and the game gets boring after a long while just exploring, jacking cars, and killing people. The game lacks depth in my opinion. The graphics for the game are just terrible. I am not usually one to complain about graphics but this game just has no excuse for having graphics this bad. The people's hands don't have fingers for the love of god. Since so many games implement the free roam aspect now-a-days that it is hard to recommend this game when there are other games have more depth to them other than running around killing people or jacking cars. Again, sorry but this is my honest opinion. The good news is that you don't need me to tell you what games to play or not. If you like it, nothings stopping you form playing it.
  16. Guilty Gear X2 #Reload: Borderlined Yes The reason why I have a problem giving it an out right yes is because I have never played this verion of Guilty Gear X2. Guilty Gear X2 was great, loads of fun, balanced, challenging, and stylish. Best looking 2D-fighter in my opinion. Many say #Reload is much better and if thats the case then I would highly recommend it. However, I never played this version so it is hard to give it an out right yes. Jak and Daxter: YES! This game was the start of an excellent game series and it also showed what the PS2 could do back in the day. The games environment is huge and completely interconnected with no loading screens. Many think Jak II introduced the free roam aspect to the series but Jak I had it all along. The boss fights (though few and far between) were great. The platforming elements were also great and nicely controlled. The story is absloutely great in my opinion, especially the stories of the laters in the series. You can't get into the story of the 2 and 3 unless you have played Jak and Daxter and for that alone it should be a must play. Highly recommend. New Super Mario Bros.: Hell YES This game is absolutely great. I have never had soo much fun playing a Mario game since Super Mario World. This game takes the classic 2-D Mario Platformer gameplay and makes it tons better. The game is just plain fun and that is what games are supposed to be, FUN. I don't know what more say. The game is great, and a must play for DS owners and Mario fans.
  17. Me too. Guilty Gear Accent Core on Wii should be awsome. And, for those who are afraid of the control scheme, don't worry because it is confirmed that it will have the option of using the classic controller. Can't Wait!
  18. I love the way link looks in this game. The captured his Twilight Princesses design perfectly. Mario looks really good as well. So far this game looks like it is going to have some nice lighting and animation. Hopefully they can release running smoothly at 60 fps throughout.
  19. For the most part hardcore fighting gamers, especially the competitive and tournament players, don't care much for DOA. They don't hate it but they feel the fighting system isn't refined, polished, balanced, or tight enough for serious or in-depth play. I personaly don't like the series much for these same reasons. I personally think the fighting system is too easy to use and abuse, especially the countering system. The series isn't bad though.
  20. Dead or Alive Ultimate: Yes I don't like the dead or alive series at all but if you had to own a Dead or Alive game, then it might as well be Dead or Alive 2 because it sort of reinvented the series and added a lot of cool features that the later DOAs contain. With that being said, if you must own a version of DOA 2, it might as well be Ultimate. Ultimate has some improved graphics, new extras, on-line play, and it has the original DOA in the game. So for DOA fans, this is a good game to own or at least try-out. Street Fighter III: Double Impact: YES! Thrid Strike might blow this one away, but Double Impact is still a great game and a must play for fans of SF3 series. The gameplay was further refined and balanced from the original SF3 and more characters were added as well. Even if you might not like Double Impact for some reason, the game includes the first SF3. From what I remeber as well, the animation was actually better in Double Impact then it was in Third Strike. This game is great and a must play for fighting gamers.
  21. Just saw the site this morning. The composer list is freaking awsome. I wish they could have included more music samples. The Night and Day thing for stages is alright too. Hopefully more info will come sometime before or at E3.
  22. Marvel vs Capcom 2: No I am only saying no because the game in question is the X-box version. The X-box version was a poorly done port in my opinion. The graphics looked like crap compared to the arcade, DC, and PS2 versions. The lack of on-line play when they already released Capcom vs SNK 2 on-line is also disappointing. I also personally think fighters don't play well on X-box. Marvel vs Capcom is an awsome game but the X-box version just didn't acheive that greatness like the others did. Metriod Prime: HELL YES! I know there are some the really dislike the game but that doesn't make it bad by any means. Just because you don't like the particular style of gameplay that requires you explore, revisit, and figure things out for yourself doesn't make it bad. Metriod games have always had this style of gameplay and that is why so many like the series. It is challenging and fun to play at the same time. Metriod Prime has beautiful graphics, great sound, good story, tight gameplay and controls, and the world is unbelievabley immersive. This alone makes it a great game. The fact that you may not like the particular style of gameplay doesn't by any means make it bad. It is like me saying all turn-based RPGs are horrible games just because I don't like turn-based style gameplay. Bottom-line, Superb Game that anyone should try, especially metriod fans.
  23. I can't wait till the site is up. I seriously hope it isn't anything stupid like a blog. I am thinking the site will be up around 8:00 or 9:00 pm mountain time. Hopefully I'm right and I will be looking at some new brawl info before the end of the day.
  24. I must say I am really excited about the game. Everything Blizzard announced just has me jumping with excitement and anticipation. However, I do hope the game comes out sooner than later. I wishing by late 2008 or early 2009. I know it is probably unrealistic but I can wish can't I. I wonder how crazy the Koreans are going over the news. They must be really really excited or could care less since they play the original so much still.
  25. Capcom vs SNK: NO Capcom vs SNK was pretty good but to me it felt more like an experiment than an actual game. It was the start of a great series but it just wasn't that great of a fighter. CvS2 just blew it away in every way possible. The fighting system wasn't very solid and responsive. The game also felt more like Street Fighter vs King Fighters. There were hardly any other Capcom or SNK characters in the game. Ok game, but not a must have in my opinion. Metriod Prime Hunters: Yes MP Hunters defined how FPSs should play not only on DS but on handhelds period. The game comes really close to PC FPS controls and feel in my opinion, and trust me, I play quite a bit of PC FPSs. The single player wasn't anything special but it wasn't horrible either. The story was pretty good, the environments were large and allowed for a lot of exploration. There was also a good deal of puzzles found in the game. The bosses and more than normal (for a metriod game) revisting was what kept it from being great. However the single player wasn't the focus, the multiplayer is and MPH nailed it. Multicard play is a blast and on-line play is very solid. On-line realy shows its colors when you play with friends but even random online matches are fun and intense. The game modes are fun and unique. Prime Hunter mode is really cool and Defender is a challenge. The graphics are amazing for a DS game. The sound is great just like any other Metriod game. MPH is just a great overall game in my opinion
