  2. I don't think you have a very strong case for that argument. If you were to compare video games to movie, tv or even literary counterparts I think you would find that except *in extreme cases* such as resident evil or dead space, gratuitous, unnecessary violence is not widespread in the least. If that's specifically the experience they're trying to give their consumer then it's not detrimental at all. If your preference is that you don't enjoy it that's fine.

No, three! others moviegoers who AREN'T down with all horror films? others music enthusiasts you AREN'T down with all raunchy lyrics? others artists blue AREN'T down with the color orange? do you see where i'm going with this? if you don't like it, don't pay for it and don't engage in it. this is a complete non-issue, and making a thread with such a combative title, as if to imply that all gamers that AREN'T you or ARE okay with graphic violence are the problem, is creating a firestorm over nothing. i don't play silent hill games because i don't like them and the way they make me feel. that doesn't make the silent hill series a problem that needs to be "fixed." nor are viscerally violent video games.

  6. well that's your problem right there you don't get the implications if ouya doesn't sell people aren't buying it, which means less people are buying games, which means games are less potentially profitable, which means making a game for OUYA holds progressively more risk, which means people won't want to do it, which means even less people will buy it, etc. etc. and who's going to 'catch on?' i mean honestly. it's gotten nothing but bad press, and doesn't deserve anything else, certainly not from a company standpoint. they've made nothing but bad decisions with poor execution since the kickstarter ended. selling 4,000 nationally is downright terrible. i'd bet dollars to donuts there are 4,000 ouyas sitting in amazon warehouses. at least.
  7. i'm talking about literally. who is the market for these things? the correct answers were: very few, even less, do you even realize how few 4,000 in a month is (that's about 80 per state to put it in perspective), and at three months sales are already close to dried up.
  8. who is developing games for ouya? (that isn't trying to rip off #freethegames) who is buying ouya consoles? who other than extreme ouya enthusiasts and other hardcore gamers that are making fun of it even know ouya exists? ouya as a hobbist device? fine. no problem there. but the infrastructure of it only lasts as long as it's profitable and after that it's a streambox/emulator.
  9. so essentially all of these boil down to 'if they like ouya and want it to do well' or 'because they don't actually care about making money' except for a. and a is more or less negated by the fact that unless you make an absolute breakout hit (there are none so far and may never be) you won't make enough money, or enough noise to get noticed and find your way onto a major console where you can really do well for yourself.
  10. i'm suggesting that the entire point of OUYA *is* to have a system where everyone can do whatever they want, which means that highlighting the games by more established developers runs counter to the whole idea of the system. which is why in the end ouya wasn't that great of an idea to begin with giving developers freedom to do whatever they want is a good thing, but if someone is attempting to make a console-esque game and not just an iOS clone/etc, and they're doing it specifically for ouya, then they've already missed the majority of their audience in doing so.
  11. a) there are no publishers number of downloads has very little correlation to regards to whether or not a game is good c) if the best option for finding games lies at the hands of the consolemaker i really don't see how that's any less bureaucratic than the current system that people are supposedly 'spurning' in favor of the open freedom of the ouya you may notice in c) that this all loops back around to the beginning, which is "why was this a good idea in the first place?"
  12. how exactly do you design that? the only way is through user feedback, people only rate one star or five stars, and the vast majority of people never rate their applications. and there DEFINITELY isn't anyone reviewing these games, because they don't matter to very many people at all

  14. no because there's also no tangible monetary cost, the only cost is man work hours it would be, if i said that indies were equivalent to crayon drawings from 5 year olds. but i didn't soooooo i don't know how many more times i can talk to you about what install bases mean people who can develop for larger audiences, do. up until recently, those who were working semi-professionally/indie/whatever and were talented could find a publisher. due to some tangled up situations that's no longer necessary. people who still don't have the acumen to release on larger networks like steam or consoles either a) self-publish online self-publish on ouya c) self-publish on mobile. a) and c) have massive install bases. does not. the only people making games SPECIFICALLY FOR OUYA are people who cannot/will not make games anywhere else. and how far have they come exactly? they put out a system that has sold squat outside of people who paid for it in the kickstarter ouya gives you nothing you don't already get from another platfom with a few notable exceptions. people 'hate' that ouya fanatics act like they 'just don't get it' the only danger to ouya is that it makes no money, because publishing games is free, even the best games don't have significant sales numbers, and nobody is buying it. like i really don't want to hate it but it's only spawned about 10 games total that i would want to play and can't play elsewhere. towerfall, for instance, is a great looking game and if it were on steam it would sell like crazy. but it's on ouya so it sells 2,000 copies instead.
  15. the difference is for every other console ever (except mobile platforms) making bad games had a tangible monetary upside. for ouya it doesn't. i never said it wasn't a nice idea in terms of theory. it just *is* a bad idea it's like opening up the Louvre to crayon drawings from 5 year olds, the abundance of bad devalues what little good there is to begin with
  16. the wii had so much shovelware because the install base was so insanely high that publishers knew that even the shittiest of games would get bought a few times. putting together a bad development team, not paying them very much, and putting out a game would still in many cases turn a profit. the iOS and android market are similar but different: because the install base is literally everyone with a smartphone, and the barrier to entry is so low, people are willing to make games on the off chance it blows up, as well as for experience or pleasure. for the ouya, there is a small install base, zero cost to entry in terms of licensing fees, and significant amounts of shovelware or just downright bad games. anyone who can make games for a larger market will, and the 12 developers that can but are making games for ouya anyways are pretty disgusted about ouya's business practices.
  17. yeah i have no issue with people enjoying ouya my issue has been and will always be that ouya is a bad business design informed by misguided ideals, and that the people making it and the didn't understand what they were getting into when they made a 'truly open system' where there was absolutely zero filter between absolute trash and a well designed game it's the same argument people used against wii where people complained about shovelware, except instead of shovelware being i dunno, 40% of games, it's *a significant majority*
  18. so just to sew this all up into a nice little bow of 'ouya is a total failure' Pretty much every game that has qualified for the 'Free the Games' campaign have been clear ripoffs, and every other developer ever thinks it's a terrible campaign. On top of the fact that Ouya refuses to admit there's anything wrong with their 'awesome plan.' She even has the gall to be like 'we're shocked at the negative feedback!!!!' Outside of inspirational talking, she clearly doesn't know what she's doing.
  19. and you don't have to go far at all to find people who implicitly advocate a privileged position for women in society, or at the very least a society where men shouldn't have power because they're dumb because that's pretty much every single one any feminist that invokes 'male privilege' as a legitimate argument (i.e. 'check your privilege') is implicitly saying that a man's opinion on a certain topic is less valid or valuable specifically because they are a man. which is also implicitly saying that men's opinions and positions on things should be less valuable it's not a matriarchy but women who use lines like that want their way of thinking/whatever to be superior, whether they realize it or not. and that's not even going into the massive double standards that are rampant among the 'equal rights' advocates you call feminists

A) this is video game development do you realize this is not that uncommon/not based on publishers? see ea_spouse, sakurai, miyamoto, and TONS OF OTHER PEOPLE WHO DON'T BITCH ABOUT IT. this happens. is it bad? yes. should it stop? yes. is this a capcom issue? not even close. why would they expect it to be anything other than a failure? street fighter 3 was by most every measuring block a failure. no one was interested in it except the hardest of the core. this is not like the apparent 'hey if we make mega man 11 we'll print money' add-a-number zombitude of the mega man fanbase. it could and *would* have been a failure if they had decided not to essentially make street fighter 2 two. fighting game pros will always play fighting games but the modern renaissance of fighting games for the general public comes squarely from *gasp* capcom supporting street fighter 4 and mvc3. framing average and normal things in a combative fashion doesn't make them more egregious. it just makes you more opinionated.
  21. yeah guys totally. screw capcom, not the guy who left capcom *AND HIS FANS* because he didn't feel like working for the company that made him rich anymore. it's totally capcom's fault that the entire creative process for mega man walked out the door and stopped making mega man games because he doesn't like mega man anymore. *but the derrit they were mean to himmmmmmmm* not everyone likes their boss get over it. it's a high stress industry. the fact that everyone blames capcom for not making mega man games, instead of inafune, who literally holds the keys to the kingdom in that franchise and left, *knowing full well he was leaving the IP behind,* boggles my mind.

  24. i'm not rooting for capcom so much as i am perfectly okay with letting mega man die instead of having a sonic-esque fall into mediocrity with inafune gone a bunch of people raging at capcom saying MAKE MORE MEGA MAN CAPCOM WOINFWEOINFWEIFWNEFIWENOFWEIN is bad for everyone, because mega man fans will get crappy mega man games, and capcom will waste money. it's just that the only party that has figured this out is capcom.
  25. well you can because i <3 you everyone else cannot. okay it's like a capcom fighting game without yoshino ono (capcom fighting evolution) or mario without shigeru miyamoto (super mario bros. 2) or 3d metroid without retro studios (metroid: other m) say what you will about these games but they are all, very clearly, the black sheep in their respective lines. when your major creative force is gone it doesn't come out the same. the major issue is mega man fans are like the picky five year old who will eat literally nothing but peanut butter cookies. it doesn't matter if they're stale, or the majority of people aren't interested in eating them, or if by continuing to make these peanut butter cookies the baker can't create any new recipes, and people stop coming to his shop. the mega man fan will cry and throw a tantrum until he gets that cookie just how he wants it. and then grumble about how it wasn't warm and gooey in the middle.
