  1. Then you either ride it out or you can't be a performance musician for a living. It's no one's decision but yours. I'm not about to get mad because game tournaments don't pay enough money, and I can't be a professional gamer even though I REALLY REALLY want to (I don't in reality). If it doesn't pay and you're willing to keep up with it that's up to you. If you're not willing to, well, sucks. It's never been easy. The NFL isn't going to change whether or not your shitty bar owner thinks paying you 100 dollars is enough or not.
  2. The issue here is that some people are correctly saying 'it doesn't matter they don't get paid by the NFL because they make ridiculous bank from doing it anyways' and some people are incorrectly saying 'IT SETS A BAD PRECEDENT BECAUSE IF THE BIGGEST EVENT IN THE WORLD DOES IT SO WILL EVERY OTHER EVENT, AND THEN EVERYONE'S GONNA PICK ON MUSICIANS, AND WE'LL ALL GO HUNGRY. ITS NOT FAIRRRR' NO other reputable event in the world does it. EVERY event that has tried, and I have heard of quite a few that have in the past few years, gets flamed into oblivion, with both fans and performers boycotting said events. Musicians who think they're worth nothing play for free at shitty venues. Everyone else doesn't. The NFL isn't going to change that dynamic, especially since they've already been doing this FOR WELL OVER A DECADE. Not to mention they DO pay for all of the performer's expenses, meaning performers aren't losing a dime to do it! Business practices established my ass.
  3. gragas is also dealt with very well by lissandra. stops his dash with w and can outmaneuver him in fights. just throwing that out there also throwing out that i'm available to play support for team ocr when one is needed
  4. if someone tried to get you to play for exposure alone you're not going to ask why you're going to say 'HELL NO SCREW YOU' and they're going to have an empty venue
  5. i can attest to the fact that there's no grinding for items in bravely default. i've played the full game and i can only imagine that was for 'hey keep using the battle system' purposes.
  6. no not really at all because i'm right. you're deliberately minimodding here, keep ignoring the rules of the forum, i'm sure it's the best way to bring this discussion further
  7. the majority of people here will purely because of all the 8-bit sounds in it. which is kind of the point of everyone here saying 'it's not the music it's you'
  8. i hate to be the one to say this because i think your music is pretty good, but this means your music doesn't interest enough people. promotion is not bad or ineffective because it didn't work for you. when someone hears 'well the NFL doesn't pay musicians why should we' let me know. until then this is a dumb conversation
  9. no it's not accurate at all i'm glad we all figured that one out. metric shitton. however you want to put it. wut. okay seriously here let's just do some simple math even. 30 seconds of advertising time in the super bowl was worth an even 4 million this year. so 8 million per minute. Bruno Mars got 13 minutes of time in the middle of the Super Bowl. to scale, he just got 104 million dollars worth of time from the NFL. for free. on top of the large amounts of money he is making from people buying his music due to the exposure he got. on top of the fact that a huge amount of people now know he's a great performer, and would be worth paying to see in concert. on top of the fact that he already GOT paid by pepsi, directly if not indirectly. and your reasoning is it sets a bad precedent? no one with half a brain for good business would say that performing at the super bowl was a bad deal for bruno mars, or that he got gypped. he made money, expanded his personal brand significantly, got to perform at the most-watched television event of the year, and ABSOLUTELY CRUSHED IT. the only way you could not understand how big a boon this would be for a musician is if you don't understand how big of a stage the super bowl is. it actually makes me in-real-life mad that there are people up in arms about this
  10. Except nobody is going to do that. The super bowl has been doing this for years and years and nowhere else has suddenly decided not paying musicians is a good business model. Can you imagine the outrage that would come of that from a fanbase? It might be kind of like the outrage in this thread but actually substantiated.
  11. That's true at the level where a performer is a) not well known enough and not skilled enough to succeed or profit from the exposure they get. The super bowl is neither of these things. It's you that's missing the point.
  12. Over a billion people saw bruno mars perform last night. I'm sure he's fine with the huge resurgence in record sales he's getting right now, especially since he knocked it out of the park with that performance. Plus he got to go to the Super Bowl for free. Even celebrities like doing fun things, you know. What blows my mind is how little you guys seem to understand the gravity of the Super Bowl. They're playing AT THE SUPER BOWL. That's legitimately the biggest live venue that anyone can ever play. You'd give up that opportunity just because you don't get paid? Even though you're already a millionaire? Come on. Edit: As of this moment in time Bruno Mars' CD from TWO YEARS AGO is the top selling CD on iTunes. Two of the singles from that CD are #6 and #7 on the top 10 singles list. I'm pretty sure he got his money for the performance.
  13. I really liked sticker star, but I'll be honest the music didn't stick with me that heavily. It was good though. Fun game too - maybe I'll go through that again in the near future.
  14. yeah i don't agree with this at all. Mirror's Edge , though 2 and one are also awesome (shoutouts to BGC) , though I could accept if someone thought this was too 'epic score'-y. It's very memorable to me. Great game too even though the 'fans' wanted the 'real thing.' Honestly, I think music in games has become a more subtle part of the gaming experience, and I think that's okay. It might even be a good thing. The same way some movies draw on popular music to make a point while some use scores, some games feature music that's important and meant to be noticed, and some games feature music that's ambient and relative to that exact moment in time.
  15. the arrangement is conservative, but i would really push you to keep going in the direction you are - there aren't many mixes that play towards this type of music, and there's enough source material to go on that you can get some great variations out of it while holding onto that style. i would also say for the string hits and the brass hits, a little velocity in the right places will go a long way. as it does sound a lot like MGS, go check out some of MGS3's music. it does this very well, while still staying 'sneaky.' keep up the good work
  16. what other big-name game stores are there anymore other than Gamestop? what other store that sell games period try to sell used games at a premium when they're less than a generation old? supply and demand is one thing but (technically) defacing new merchandise in order to sell it for more money is incredibly shady and clearly dishonest, if not downright illegal. the reason people don't like gamestop is because a) they do things like this and their ideal strategy is to have everyone buy used games, and to manipulate customers into doing this even when it's not their intent. customer service is secondary to store policy. i can't think of another box store in any industry outside of the car industry where that type of practice happens.
  17. the reason is that those 'used' copies were never used - they were printed for gamestop exclusively as part of a merchandising deal with nintendo. gamestop took them all out of cases, said 'oh it's used now we don't have to charge the MSRP' and tried to sell them for 80.00. Then everyone found out, nobody bought them, and like every store has a few copies left over they're trying to get rid of. and any employee who you ask about it says that 'they found a bunch of old copies in storage somewhere at gamestop hq.' despite the fact they're printed on new boxes, which weren't used when trilogy originally came out not sure i'd call that decency
  18. huh. maybe that would be a fun alternative to solo queue. i legit stopped cold turkey when i got trolled out of 5 promos in a row but i played a few games lately and it legit feels easier than before
  19. There's a new post on the blog, an artist profile of BigGiantCircles! Go read it right now!
  20. It doesn't even look like it's trying to not be metroid - the abilities, and even the names of things look exactly the same doesn't make it bad, but it's possible it'll get some less-than-positive attention from Nintendo
  21. That kind of blows my mind. They could easily just go the IDM innovation route and recruit well-known music artists to cover F-Zero tracks or create entirely new ones for new areas and it would sell HUGE. On top of that, build custom machines on the gamepad. I mean really I just came up with this after like half an hour of thinking about it, it's not that hard.
  22. The programming structure of the PS2 and Xbox were similar. Developers that didn't want to put in the effort (EA) didn't bother and just scaled it back to whatever could be copied for gamecube.
  23. of course MS investors aren't happy about it. there is no indication that the console department has any intention of making money, EVER. all consoles have been sold at a loss, and the xbox brand has not turned a profit since its inception.
