  1. I have an iPad that I got for Xmas this past year, and there is a game for it called "Clumsy Ninja", where one of the source tunes has different variations every time you play. For example, I recorded one of the sources from my iPad ( https://app.box.com/s/cms3aoijlgbewryguzhi ) However, I recently found a video of gameplay on YouTube with largely the same variation that one has, however there is a "guitar solo" which is not present in my recording, and is slightly different ( )How do you guys judge sources that have variations like this?
  2. I saw something today that got me thinking... What would you do for a mixpost for a game with an extremely long/weird title? I found this a few minutes ago. It was published for the Ouya console, but you can also play it online. The title? Here's the GameFAQs page: http://www.gamefaqs.com/ouya/721175-bababadalgharaghtakamminarronnkonnbronntonnerronn A title like that would surely break the site....rofl
  3. So I had this idea in my head a while now, and inspired by Emunator (whose first album was a big hairy 5-disc behemoth...that eats bananas), I decided to try my hand at heading a tiny modest album. Below is the writeup I came up with, if it takes off, I will make the album thread itself. Marble Madness. A game I sorta liked as a kid, and while it is not my favorite, I like the challenge it gave me. I could NEVER finish that damn Ultimate level... While looking around on OCR, I've noticed that this game seems underrepresented on OCR, and so I have decided to tackle this game and give it the album treatment, since I remember David HIMSELF saying that he would LOVE to see underrepresented games get more time in the spotlight, and this, I feel, is an underrepresented game. The soundtrack to the title (we're using the NES version, and I suppose other versions, since they are all the same I think) is somewhat lacking in length, 6-7 songs, and the ending song is not all that long. But we have 6 main level themes. 6 songs...not enough to make an album. How do we solve this? Do any of you remember playing 2 player games with your brother or sister? THIS is how. We have 2 songs per track, Player 1 and Player 2, this makes 12 songs total. and like 2-player games, each player plays it in their own way. As for a theme, Marble Madness is a pretty strange game in itself when you think about it. I mean, getting shrunk in a later level, running over tiny enemies, mobile acid pools, evil green slinky guys that try to eat you, and an incorpeal janitor all add to the oddness. This is open to all genres, however, in keeping with the oddness, try to add elements one would not expect in your chosen genre. For instance, a trance song doesn't normally have a banjo in it. A jazz piece? Put a dijeridoo in there, an Australian instrument. "Odd" music in itself is welcome too, as long as it follows OCR guidelines
  4. I LITERALLY could not sleep until I got this a good ways from starting it lol. It's a mash of this: and this: I'm calling it "Oppa Ding Dong" - http://tindeck.com/listen/uova and I'm nowhere near finished yet. would be my first mashup too.
  5. I have decided to make a mashup, and I have found everything I needed from one of the songs I am using (acapella and instrumental), and yes I know, Gangnam Style is overused to hell and back. But the other song I am using for this mashup is a lot harder to find stuff for. Gunter - Ding Dong Song so, can anyone direct me to where I could find resources for this, please? Many thanks!
  6. After this... After all you have battled through... From the beginning of BadAss 1....to the darkness of BadAss 2....to the final baddies of BadAss 3.... There is only one left..... BadAss 4 - Final Boss
  7. And that is EXACTLY what trance is. It is about the journey rather than the destination. Hell I may submit something too.
  8. If you need help Flex, I would probably be able to help. After all, look what we made together for DKC3! You drove me nuts at times with that (still hate blocks), but if you need help, I am in on it. Just tell me what I would need to do, and I am in to help. Also would be a way of thanking you for helping me with DKC3, been looking for a way to do that.
  9. Count me in too! I started REALLY early...and then ran out of steam on it. but I will try and finish this for it
  10. When it was submitted it was most likely above the bar, but time moves fast or so they say, so they might have to axe it anyway, unless of course he submits a new one with upgraded sounds
  11. Oh crap, I forgot, I only have one, I was waiting for other mixes to come in, but nope.
  12. Current News: Only ONE mix was submitted this round, so no voting needed, by default, King Tiger wins! Here is his track: https://www.box.com/s/9kwb2x4bbmgjguj2zs7r Also been thinking. The contest seems to have run out of steam, so I'm putting it on hiatus for a while. it WILL come back, but at a later date. I may reformulate it too, I don't know. T9 - King Tiger - 3 T9 - liquidwind - 2 8 - Cosmic Sounds - 2 T5 - Ectogemia - 1 T5 - Cash and Change - 1 *** Round 1 mixes: https://www.box.com/s/k675vrnue3jiqes9pzqq Round 2 mixes: https://www.box.com/s/ipgbb2p4npj6ez84uuu8 Round 3 track: About Musical Replacement Initiative Musical Replacement Initiative is intended to give musicians a genre restriction, as to hopefully make them better musicians by potentially working in a genre that they have not tackled yet. In true OCR tradition, all source tunes are from video games, and you must compose an original in the same genre and the same feeling as that source tune. Rules Participants: You must make an original with STRICT ADHERENCE to the source tune as far as genre, and feeling is concerned. Any actual source usage should be none, to extremely minimal. You may use any instruments you like; you are not restricted to the sonic palette of the source, just the general feeling and genre. By feeling I mean what does it sound like to you? When you close your eyes, what do you see? For example, Burn Bobonga from Chrono Trigger ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-AfvgFfSSk ) makes me think of cavemen dancing around a fire pit, grunting obsceneties at each other. Or something. Auron's Theme from Final Fantasy X ( http://www.youtube.com/watchv=GOu3KIDHqxc ) likewise makes me think of a hitchhiker in a futuristic city. Use this to your advantage, when considering what to do. I may at times throw in a curveball in the form of a source tune that is really hard to get the feel of, like Bokosuka Wars music. This is to keep things fresh, and challenge participants. Submissions: All entries must be sent to me by the 12PM PST deadline via PM on the forums, with a link to a reliable host for me to download your mix from. Please don't use Tindeck, as it doesn't give you control over what the filename will be when downloaded. I also recommend you post in this thread that you've submitted your mix, since I know there has been issues in other compos with PM's not being received. Please submit your file as an mp3, preferably encoded at 320kbps, but no less than 192kbps. Filenames must be in the following format: Artist - Title (Source and Game).mp3 Example: WillRock - The Beginning of Everything (Time's Grasslands - Chrono Cross).mp3 Proper file names mean I can do my job of getting the compliation done and posted faster, which means you get to hear the great music produced by this sooner. Schedule All deadlines are 12 PM (noon) Eastern time (EST). Voting Votes should be based on, in roughly descending order: -How much the original feels like the source tune. Can it be put into the game in the source tunes place? -Usage of source is a no-no here. Any actual source usage should be extremely limited. -Arrangement -Production -Enjoyability Please vote via PM to me, with your top three. The votes I get will be tallied up. For example, if I get a vote and someone is in third place, and I get another vote with that same person in second place, I just add them up at the end of the round. In this example, that person gets 3 points on the round. The person with the most points at the end of the season gets to be that season's champion! You may not vote for yourself. This said, the points will be handled like this: 1st Place: 3 points 2nd Place: 2 points 3rd Place: 1 point I will throw in a twist too. During the final round, all points are doubled, like so: 1st Place: 6 points 2nd Place: 4 points 3rd place: 2 points That means come-from-behind wins are possible. ALL YOUR ROUND THREE ARE BELONG TO YOU! Entry: Anyone can enter, from veterans to beginners, just post in the thread that you are entering. 13. I've been thinking too, during my initial posting to see if anyone would like this kind of thing, I got a lot of interest, however I've seen that in practice, it really isn't that good since only a few have signed up. We are finishing up the season, but now I'm not so sure if we should have a Season 2 or not. What do you guys think?
  14. Duly noted Ecto. I was going to do that too. 30 second jingle compo GO lol Although changing the points AGAIN might make people angry.
  15. ' I see your point. Very well then! Edit: A compo is about bettering yourself as a person musically. I'm trying to accommodate everyone to this end, so this is the reason for changes. Your criticism is well founded and wether it is a NO in the judges forum, or questions here, I appreciate everything
