  1. A very pleasant tune. I quite liked the shift in the middle, worked very well and gave the arrangement a unique feel. I thought there was a flute towards the beginning that was a little bit piercing. On the other hand I quite liked the gating applied to the pad to make it more rhythmic, that was not something I expected but worked very well, and in a sense even preshadowed the more beat-oriented later half. edit: Not sure about the piercing flute comment, it might be these particular headphones I happen to be wearing right now
  2. I quite likely don't have the time to record the guitar & bass I've written, but I'll try to put down some chip sounds or something in their place. It's going to be a sketch from me as far as the compo goes, but like I pledged I'll finish it eventually. I'm pretty happy with how it's going! Quite similar to the Mega Man II track from PRC270 that ended up on Legacy.
  3. Congrats Blaine! You did good. I had a fun first MnP!
  4. Little Nemo would be great if you ask me! That was a really atmospheric game back in the day, though maybe the game is less known, being reminded of it definitely immediately says "8-bit Nintendo" to me!
  5. I got my entry in as well.
  6. Mine's coming along all right. Just spent some time on it. I hope I have the time before deadline to extend it to a full complete structure & add some variation & stuff.
  7. I've kinda dropped the ball on our track, I'll try to get back to it as soon as I can.
  8. Aww crap, time just flies by doesn't it.
  9. Can you actually download the episode as an MP3? (I saw a link to iTunes but I don't have that.)
  10. Okay, that makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the clarification!
  11. Superb on all fronts. The rhythmic change-ups, the break with a bit more distant sound, great, tight playing. Really liked the subtle synths. Cool source tune and recognizably, yet creatively interpreted.
  12. I tried this and I got this and I liked it, so I think this works.
  13. Yup. I added a compressor because of that, but I guess I'll just automate the volume (edit: or indeed, EQ) for that. It's ok it raises up the volume a bit, but it shouldn't be detrimental. Thanks for pointing that out!
  14. Thanks! I'll take a look. I figured the lead would be more piercing though!
  15. My favourite theme keeps changing twice a day.. Would it be okay to bring in other collaborators in the doubles tourney btw?
  16. Yeah, that's exactly what I find them quite useful for too (assuming the transcription is accurate..) Well, frankly I often can't figure out something easy and slow by myself either..
  17. I've begun something. I always think it'll be easy to load up the midi and start piling up some sounds on it, but.. no. It's just weird, I think I'm much better off when approximating the source by ear and building up each instrument from that. With the midi, the "playing" is always quite clunky, whereas when you do it by ear and really sequence for the sound you have, it's much more natural from the start. Or something like that.. what's the experience of you folks? Anyway, I'll have something together, and it's possibly quite interesting. I'll try to keep to the M-n-P spirit though!
  18. Thanks for the comments! I've given the spot you mentioned a few listens. I couldn't hear anything problematic (it's quite hmm, tense though) but that can well just be the fact that I'm so used to it by now. I've already fixed a couple of spots in the harmony earlier in the piece (thanks to RiverSound), so I'm admittedly struggling a bit with the harmony in this one. I'll need to try changing it a bit and see if it starts sounding better, or maybe try to analyse the keys/modality (which I should learn anyway). Thanks!
  19. Whatever you choose, as pledged, I'll enter the round & eventually work my piece into a posted OC ReMix (assuming the source is eligible for OCR submission). Choose wisely!
  20. Funny, some time ago I watched some Amiga longplay videos and was thinking the original tune was pretty good, it'd be fun to try to do something with it. I guess I didn't even think there was already a piece on OCR! This is indeed a pretty fun track. The bass comes off as a cheap old school MOD bass, not in an entirely positive way. That's about the only negative thing I'd say about the piece. Great idea to make it into a song.
  21. Dudeeeeeh.. I'd be super happy & honoured to collab with you on this thing. Let's do it! I've migrated to 3.0 but can switch back to 2.8 if so desired. I pretty much only use samples old-school style & native plugins, partially because I'm on Linux & haven't figured stuff out. My knight list was Treasure, Sceptre (which is kinda popular), Shield & Black, how did that sound to you?

  23. Okay, that looks pretty interesting, I might give it a go later. The music sounds really good, good job!
