There were also many who wanted to join in but couldn't - thanks for their support too and I hope you all can catch the SEGA RPG SPECIAL on Sega Mixer Drive! Rexy's show this Friday is all about the Sega RPG series and this is where our tribute will be featured. The show is on Friday 17th at 9PM UK time (1PM PDT / 4PM EDT / 10PM CET) on RadioSEGA! https://www.radiosega.net/listen/ Here's the list of tracks: The Audio Sprite - Wandering Warriors - done! Won by Chernabogue People's Remix Compo round 280 with the Town Theme as the source - gercr is the sole competitor & winner with a cool fusion-y take on the theme using instruments & style of the soundtrack --------------------- old stuff below: --------------------------------- WELCOME AND JOIN THE SHINING FORCE! This is a rally to get people to make arrangements of before the 20th anniversary of the NA release of the game (19th October 1994). The game is a great, light tactical JRPG and for my money the soundtrack is easily one of 16-bit Sega's greatest. There are no mixes from it on OCR (and only four from the Shining series in general). It could really use some more appreciation! For an idea how to make an event out of it, I've talked to Rexy - who hosts Sega Mixer Drive on Radio Sega, and she has agreed to highlight Shining Force 2 music on the show near to the anniversary date (Friday 17th October I guess?). She noted the scarcity of fan arrangements of Shining series music, and would certainly welcome any new ones that could be produced! I enjoy Sega Mixer Drive, and the couple of OCR album listening parties I've attended have been a lot of fun, especially with the IRC chat room interaction. A few people putting together some tunes and coming to join the chat for the show will make it a fun event! This is aiming to be a fairly relaxed and a low-stress drive. At the same time, there's only a couple of months to the anniversary date. This should give a nice tight timeframe, I know those are good for me and I hope you agree! It's worth to mention were not aiming for OCR standards here - in production or arrangement criteria - so don't feel like you have to be a posted ReMixer to join. You can also do a nice good straightforward cover of a source tune. It'll of course be Rexy's call if she wants to air each tune on the show! This is not an album project (or really a project per se). I'll however be happy to keep track of everyone's progress here, provide feedback on tracks (post on the workshop forums or PM me!), or collaborate if you want drums sequenced, tracker-style synths or modest live-ish bass guitar or guitar! I'll also do my best to contact people who might be interested - feel free to point this thread to musicians and fans you know who love the game and its music! If you want to join in - and why wouldn't you - just announce it here (or PM me) and I'll add you below. Once you know a source you'll be rearranging, tell me (thread or PM) and I'll add it. If you want feedback from me, again PM me. I also encourage to post it on workshop forums - the tracks don't need to be kept secret (unless you want it so yourself) - we're just making tracks in time for the NA release anniversary! The date when the piece should be ready for the show is Monday, 13th of October. Also, don't worry if you want to do a track someone else is already making. Just pick the track you want to do. (If you're wondering, why is this not an album project? 1. I think it's very unlikely it'd be done and out in time for the anniversary, or even in 2014, 2. I don't want to run an album project right now, but I felt I could put this onto the table and 3. if the turnout is good etcetera, who knows what this'll build into later!) tl;dr: YOU. REARRANGE SHINING FORCE II MUSIC BEFORE MID-OCTOBER. THERE'LL BE AN INTERNET RADIO SHOW. TRACKS Here's a Youtube playlist for the soundtrack: (I'm leaving the shortest ditties/cues out) Places, Plot & People - kind of a "lead theme" for the game, pops up in lots of sources - so good! - same as Mitula's theme without the flute lead - pick this instead of Eleven town Battle Themes - the scary battle theme - basically the main theme of the game; plays in map/overworld sections and during several battles Attack Themes - boss attack theme Short Ditties STATUS OF THE DRIVE Mixer -- Source -- Status The Audio Sprite - Wandering Warriors - done! Anyone who knows good SF2 arrangements out there - doujin especially (since I have no clue) - feel free to post em in this thread!
  5. Happy birthday & congrats for the well-deserved birthday mixpost! Thanks for all the music, hosting Sega Mixer Drive and even running People's Remix Competition when I started participating! You've done a lot for the community and I hope you have a great day for that alone.
  6. I see the vgmdb update; Malcos' track in there and an m decapitalized.
  7. All right, so it's practically correct in the art. Good! If Larry can fix it for the metadata, it'd be sweet, though not entirely necessary.
  8. Yes, it is much appreciated! While we're on the subject, I notice the Mega Man II track title is capitalized wrong (for Finnish) in the vgmdb: instead of "Miljoonamiehen Muistelmat" it should be "Miljoonamiehen muistelmat" - that is, the second word starts in lowercase. Titles are capitalized different in Finnish than English. (I'll PM this to Larry too in case this fix can make it in)
  9. Holding my breath here. Assuming everything's working out -- fantastic! Props to The Coop for being able to do the edit on a short notice, and Larry certainly as well!
  10. That's definitely great news! I love the ThaSauce compo system, and it's great to hear it's fixed & and there will be improvements.
  11. Watch this space. EDIT: I felt like making a new thread to grab control of the first post; with apologies to The Mighty Kelp! Please join in the drive!
  12. We used to play this a lot over at a friend's. Got to let him know about this round. There's a bit that I like in the source, maybe I can make something out of it.
  13. 15th Anniversary of GBA would be in 2016! edit: I'll claim Minish Cap.
  14. I'll send a WIP in for a Castlevania 3 track shortly. Some thoughts about the project concept below: About track selection: almost all of those well known games have been covered numerous times. SMB1, almost all of Mega Man, the first Zelda and Metroid have been done numerous times in many different styles. The NES/Famicom Final Fantasy games have or will have full dedicated OCR albums. I makes sense to include those well known games of course, but it'd be great if the directors and arrangers took care to pick tracks that are less arranged - such as on your list, from SMB3, the Airship and Athletic themes have no arrangements on OCR, which is good. And if the sources have been done already (SMB Overworld), do them in a style that hasn't been done before (you'll have to think hard about that!). Kid Icarus is a good game to do, a Nintendo original that hasn't been done to death. There's a ton of games on NES, a huge variety of stuff with tons of less known but still great music. It'd be great to showcase that variety and unearth some gems for the people alongside the stuff they are already familiar with! Overall I think this is a great idea for a project, it is timely and it's not too far away - this worked great for the Game Boy project reboot (coming out just next week!) so I do hope this gets off the ground. Good luck, and I'll be sending in my WIP soon!
  15. Do rank Pleiade somewhere in your list (example, ), he was quite keen of the project idea and it'd be great to get him to do VGM arrangements again. =)
  16. I dunno, his last mix is from like 2009, does he even read these forums anymore? Happy birthday! Maybe this year I'll find a pretzel to celebrate with.
  17. Indeed, kudos to all the hard-working butts all around the globe!
  18. Good arrangement. The way it progresses, grows and pulls back and develops the instrumentation sounds very thoughtful and is both easy and rewarding to listen to. I like the string work. It's quite buried under everything else though. I think there's more work to be done in giving each instrument their space with levels, EQ, stereo placement, and possibly reverb. There also seems to be little in the way of bass, a solid bass might help to glue things together and help the other instrumentation to find the balance. The loudest hits of the djembe are quite loud and make the percussion sound mechanical. Guitar is, like everyone mentions, quite mechanical. Trying to let the previous notes ring longer might indeed help. The sound is also kind of hard. Very very cool arrangement on the guitar alone though.
  19. That's a cool list, thanks for linking! I took a couple of comparison listens. is pretty interesting to listen to, it's quite similar indeed but at the same time it's clearly(?) not a note-for-note copy, didn't check the 2:00 bit more closely though. From a bit of cursory comparison of to , it seemed very close but not quite the same. I have an old WIP that I'm thinking of working on some more, but I couldn't be bothered if it wasn't applicable for OCR.And oh man, ..
