  1. Missing pic, like this here: Saw a big square with no pic in the top-right corner of the site, where the mascots appear. It was linked to mascot 153 which doesn't exist (which is why I posted about it). Probably something in the random number generator used to choose mascots for each page or something that's set a number too high.
  2. The site showed me a missing pic linked to this. Apparently, there's no mascot 153. Seems like 152 is the last one.
  3. Well, I just updated mine. btw you can take Tensei off my track. Too many other mixes and/or too much real life, that guy. Oh and leepmeister... I need an update from you too, for your sd3 track. PM me.
  4. Sounded like EFM1 the way the bells turn weird on the really low notes. I suggest you put the low notes on a separate track with a copy of the synth, and tweak the synth so you have a smoother sound that sounds more like the higher bell notes. I gotta get me Logic Studio some day. *goes mask* But first...!
  5. You could try adding a copy of that an octave up (whether it's one note or a series like Harmony suggested). You could also shorten the note (or leave out one or two of the last one if you're using a series of notes instead of one) and let the reverb/delay trail off. Nice work. Glad we could help.
  6. See if you can get a 5-10ms delay on it, it should add a metallic sound, getting you closer. Also sounds to me like what you're thinking of as "unclean" is just something that doesn't have enough high frequencies. Dunno what filter settings you have on the synth or if you have any EQs cutting highs, but you should get a "cleaner" sound by just not cutting away the highs. The note itself plays a big role here too, an octave up or down can change the sound a lot too. Hope this helps.
  7. Distortion won't really do it, you're gonna have to find a sound that sounds close. Sounds like an FM (frequency modulation) synth, dunno what synths you've got that use FM. I could probably make something similar in Logic's EFM1, but that wouldn't really do you much good. Of course, once you have the basic sound, you can tweak it a bit. Could be a tremolo on the volume, not sure if it's so or just the other sounds that make it seem that way to me.
  8. Probably means that you're doing all right. Wasn't mistaken for bagpipes. Which it can also sound like. I speak from experience and many a secret fail.
  9. Black Mage, your third pic is amazing. Beautiful even light and some really cool rock formations.
  10. Might be a little too loud and a little too far, that reverb. Would be cool if you could have the piano sound a _little_ more distant instead of just putting it in a big room, but dunno if you have the samples for that. Cool to hear you try something new. When are you gonna do a guitar remix? ^gah, wrong version. Listen to a newer one later.
  11. This is a cool source. Dunno if I should remix this game or just try my hand at this style. Guitar is fakey, and if you take out the voice you're gonna have to put in a different lead there, something that can carry the track. This is mixed kind'a noisy, I can only hear the piano's high frequencies, and it's in a desperate need for a touch of reverb. 0:57 sounds like the vocaloid is out of tune. The really high-pitch voice doesn't really fit into this track, at least mixed like this. You could transpose it a few whole notes down, tho I dunno how that'll make the bass and guitar sound. Can't learn the source after just one listen, so I can't say how well you've arrangement it (could be a total cover and I still couldn't hear it) but you do have a lot of energy in there. Keep at it.
  12. You need better sounding drums. A little too many crashes going on there, either mix it loud so that kind of crashes fit, or find softer cymbals for the part. The brass sounds fakey, the bass ain't good either. The right-panned synth actually sounds fine to me, one of the better parts of the remix actually. Fits in well, sounds pro, unlike most of the rest. Piano sounds well written, but not alive enough to be a believable performance. Love how it keeps going after 3 minutes. Also, I heard source. I'd say the arrangement works for me, but it needs more performance. Keep at it.
  13. Lotta MM wips in progress now. Sweet sound, just needs the right arrangement. Watch the low notes on the bell tho. Is that the EFM1 I hear?
  14. I get what they're saying about the clap loop, and I don't get what you were thinking with when you did the panning of it. On the whole, the percussion is a weak point here. The arrangement works for me. The soundscape is cool, but the overall sound could use a little more focus. When you have a lead there, it's easily obscured by all the stuff going on under it. The only reason it stands out atm is that it's a few octaves higher than everything else. The instrumentation overall, aside from the percussion, is fine with me, tho for something as prominently used as the choir you might want to look for a new choir. You could also do well to emphasize the source a little more in some places, bring in some strong instrument to accentuate or punctuate parts. More room for the lead and better percussion (and the appropriate mixing to make the percussion strong and fit in). The rest of the judges' crits don't bother me much, tho they're not saying it for no reason. I'm not surprised this got rejected, but I am surprised you subbed it in this condition. maybe hanging out on the wip board critting ppl would do your ears some good.
  15. Yeah, that's about it. Except the a should be more open. Also, you have to sound depressed when you say it. It's finnish. And technically the first syllable is emphasized, but the vowel sound is the same. Finnish. IPA: /ˈnokiɑ/ (yeah, really helpful), compare the english word "no" transcribed as /noʊ/ (american english). lol, really important stuff.
  16. Listening now, half way through. So far so good., tho you guys suck at pronouncing finnish cell phone brands. Esp pixietricks, which is extra fun because she tried to correct whoever said it before. Gotta show you how to pronounce it when I get you my bumper.
  17. QFT SM, which is awesome btw, has a really subdued story that could be summed up as "you go there to kill them because they have a metroid and they're bad". The game implies things and the other games and the manga and the rest of the franchise makes the story so much richer, but in-game it's just jumping around shooting stuff for no apparent reason. Dunno about Shadow Complex, haven't finished it x times and read all the associated story, but from the gameplay pov it looks about as complicated as SM. You go there to kill them because they something something and they're bad. Sounds like SM to me.
  18. Stop talking about how awesome it is... ...cuz I don't have it... ...or an xbox... ...or time to play. Seriosuly tho, this might be the thing that gets me to buy the console. Tho I kinda need a job more. No job, time, no money, no console. Job, console, no time, no gameplay.
  19. Everything classical is orchestral. Everything orchestral is classical. Not.
  20. I enjoyed FFX... to the extent I actually played it. My brother beat it way before I even got half way through, so there wasn't much story left for me to explore. I think I'm still stuck before the fight with the blue-haired girly man up in the mountains. I enjoyed it, but most cutscenes were terrible. Characters waiting a beat too long for their turn to interrupt, saying their line and then doing a motion they should have done at the beginning of the line... terrible disparity between pre-rendered cutscenes and the other ones... ...and the two main characters, Tidus and Yuna, are both pretty annoying.
  21. A and B In the case of Zelda, I want less wolves, boats, chickenpeople, trains, and more fighting and puzzle-solving. But at the same time, I'm not opposed to, say, a strategy game set in the Zelda universe. It'd just have to be marketed as something other than a Link saves Zelda and Hyrule from Ganondorf-type Zelda game. If I make a distinction between franchise and game series, there's room for more than one type of game in a franchise, but games in a game series should use the same gameplay and not try to revolutionize stuff with every game.
  22. Sort'a on a roll so I'll crit this as things come to me. Reverb on the piano sounds too small to fit the backing sounds. A hall reverb... or perhaps rather a delay would work better. Cool drums. Some repetition. Some overlapping sounds end up distorted, doesn't sound pretty. The distortion sounds good with the drums, but not with the other instruments, so you gotta clean those out and get something rougher in there for those parts... or fix the distortion. Half way through I'm recognizing stuff from previous in the remix, and it sounds kind'a the same as before. More variation would be cool, tho I think the backing melody is more elaborate there. The drums are getting old. Do you have a different drum pattern with the same sound that you could change to now and then to keep things varied? If you do, use it. The piano+synth bell+atmospheric pad combination is great. This sounds a lot more manageable than your Ecco remix. A few issues aside, this is very enjoyable. Make it awesome.
  23. You'll be happy to hear I'm working on an MM remix too. Great percussion, but the strings aren't quite on the same elvel, not sure why. Also sounds like the whole thing is panned left because the mid-range strings are there and there's nothing in that range to balance it up with. The low strings seem to have some auto-pan on them, moving left and right all the time. That's a little annoying. Around half way through I recognize a source I tried remixing when i first came to ocr. The first half of the arrangement doesn't sound familiar at all. If there's source in there you're probably in the green, but if not this might be looking at a NO for lack of source. Still, this is an amazing piece, far better than the thing I did back whenever. Fix our problems with it and sub it when it's ready.
  24. I envy your chippy skills. This is some sweet stuff.
  25. Hard to judge, but it's chippy and ocr tends to lean towards more complex sounds. Weird key changes, really weird sound with all the vibrato... Weird, but kind'a cool.
