Not to mention the (relatively) massive amount of attention people will give your track. Rather than 2-3 people critiquing it at a time in the WIP forums, it'll be 20-30 people. Not all of them critique, per se, but a good portion of them do.

Very nice take on the source, here. The drum work is awesome, and many of the instrument choices are great. The volume is unabashedly quiet, though. If at all possible, find a way to maximize the volume without adding artifacts to the track. Some of the remix sounds pretty hollow in the soundscape. It's mostly a problem in the lower end of the spectrum (such as the low-lowermid spectrum), so you should figure out a way to fill out that area. Overall, the remix is repetitive. I don't mind conservative remixes, but an arrangement that repeats without any variation is never any good. Either change it up a little or remove the repeats. Those are my thoughts, I hope it helps you out.

X-com. Alright, maybe calling that underrated is a bit of a stretch. X-com Apocalypse was pretty damn good, too, but many people don't like it due to the constraints it puts on you (cityscape vs worldscape, alien weaponry comes in stages rather than giving you the near top tier guns in the beginning, etc.). I'd say, if you haven't played that one yet go get a copy from Y2K games - they're selling it again, and it's awesome. I know I'm going to get some neigh saying, but I'm actually a bit excited over the new X-com being made, as well. Unfortunately, I'll probably be forced to watch it go on the shelves without a platform to play it on . Did I mention X-com?

Hey Darkesword, I know you're a judge/coordinator/album director/etc., but you should join this competition as a participant, too. I think it'd be interesting to see what you could bring to the table Also, Come on everyone! This is an awesome compo, get in on it.

Daaaw, I'm not sure I'll be able to join the listening party, since I'm visiting my family out in the boonies next week. I'll try to make it for sure, though.

Mine is on a permanent 50% volume that I can't adjust (the volume bar is at 100%). It didn't use to be like that, but I hit a wrong key one day and suddenly it decided that 50% was the way to go. Already deleted my plugins and reinstalled them, uninstalled Winamp and all that jazz and yet it still does the same thing. Any suggestions, while we're on the topic of Winamp? The strangest part about it all is that it DID work at 100% volume for a couple of weeks, then it just... stopped working correctly.

Haa, the good ol' wheel. Dammit, I wish I could find my Dynamic Musical Beacon... it's like a badass version of the Chord Wheel that no one knows about, yet. Maybe I'll find something on it at home in NM next week, Stay tuned!

I have no preset hate, and would love to use them if they sound good. Unfortunately I use Reason 3.0, which only comes with two synthesizers, and the presets on them are... well, limiting, after you use them for a while. That forces me to get into custom synths. Ah well, I guess that makes me a better musician overall, in the long run. I think I hold a common position here - if it works for you than go for it. The only time I'll point something out is if the preset is not working for a particular track, but then it's not an issue of a preset but of soundscape design.

Yes they're similar. You know that there's only so much you can do with chord progressions, right? In a finite world of tonal music you're bound to find two songs that use the same progression, just by the law of averages. It's still fun to listen to it, though

Ooo, very sexy remix. A couple of comments, if you want it on OCR - there's not quite enough source to go around. It sounds awesome, but playing that source once in the middle (and a little ditty at the end) isn't going to cut it for source usage. There's a lot of room where you could include variations of the source in this arrangement, though, so I could see that being fixed easily if you wanted to. Not to mention that there's a badass section in the original source that isn't even there (and it's just pure synth wankery - I mean it would go so well with your track...), so hopefully we will see an update with awesome source usage, but that's up to you. The length is... short. Objectively speaking, the arrangement is just begging for more. It sounds like there's a whole other section that it's building into, yet it fades out instead. It made me sad, because I was looking forward to the next section. I can't say for sure, but I think I hear some clipping in the high ranges. YT tends to do this to videos, though, so if you could provide a link to the Mp3 we could make sure it's something with the track rather than something with YT. Otherwise I loved it. The dance style was great, and it got me bobbing my head, for sure.

It's great, overall. Long, a little on the boring side, but it's great. One issue that might help with just about anything that's wrong with the track, though - you really need some sounds that fill the mid/upper-mids of the EQ. Perhaps a pad, maybe an electronic texture, instead (to keep with the style), but this track never seems to fill that portion out. Instead of blanketing the track with that mid filler, though, you could have it come in and out at choice parts to make the track more interesting overall - thus fixing the supposed 'variety' problem (it's actually very varied, but it sounds like it's all the same due to the soundscape). Yeah, fill that range better and you'll have a real winner on your hands, here. Nice sounds, interesting arrangement. I likes it.

Man, I was waiting for this album for a while - glad I was able to get it before my NM outing for a week. Let's see how it holds up (although who am I kidding, with the remixer lineup that's there it'll hold up just fine, I'm sure).

He needs WAVs because it's a lossless format. You don't want to send an Mp3 file for him to compress when he creates the properly labeled Mp3 + FLAC files.
